The Federalist Society Celebrates Dean Reuter’s 27 Years of Leadership and Service Ahead of His Retirement The Federalist Society is celebrating Executive Vice President, Dean Reuter, as he concludes 26 years as a leader, mentor, and friend to the organization. For generations of colleagues and members, Dean has been a familiar presence at the Society: organizing thoughtful debates, encouraging new voices, and bringing good humor to even the busiest days. His contributions have helped shape both the Society’s work and the culture behind it. Join The Federalist Society in thanking Dean Reuter. "Dean has played an essential role in the Federalist Society for a quarter of a century, serving our members for longer than half of the Society's existence. His genius in execution combined with his innovative ideas and his ability to work with so many people were indispensable to making the Federalist Society what it is today. He will be greatly missed." - Steven G. Calabresi, Co-Chairman of The Federalist Society “Dean Reuter has been such an impactful and critical leader for the Federalist Society, and I and many, many others will miss working with him to advance the Society’s objectives in the legal culture. But we wish him the very best on the occasion of a very well earned and deserved retirement.” - Leonard Leo, Co-Chairman of The Federalist Society “For more than a quarter century, Dean has helped build the Federalist Society through his leadership, scholarship, and unwavering dedication to our mission. Throughout it all, his good humor, generosity, and can-do spirit have made him an extraordinary colleague and friend. We will miss him dearly. As he begins a well-earned retirement, Dean leaves with our heartfelt thanks.” - Sheldon Gilbert, President and CEO of The Federalist Society. Dean first joined the Federalist Society in June 1997 and returned in January 2001 following service in the Office of the Inspector General at a federal agency. For 15 years, he served as Vice President and Director of the Society’s Practice Groups, helping practitioners explore the hardest questions in their field through publications, discussions, and panels. He became Senior Vice President in 2021 and Executive Vice President in 2025. Alongside that work, Dean built a career as an author and editor. He co-edited Confronting Terror: 9/11 and the Future of American National Security and Liberty’s Nemesis: The Unchecked Expansion of the State with John Yoo, and co-authored The Hidden Nazi: The Untold Story of America’s Deal with the Devil with Colm Lowery and Keith Chester. Most recently, he has helped bring the Society’s America250 initiative to life. Dean will remain Executive Vice President through the end of the year and will join colleagues and members at this year’s National Lawyers Convention as the Society celebrates his contributions and wishes him well.
