Transcript [00:00] In Syria today, crowds have blocked the [00:02] Aleppo Damascus highway. In Hama, they [00:05] burned tires in the uh town square. In [00:09] uh Idlib, they shut down the main roads [00:12] for hours. Uh out east, they stopped the [00:14] oil tankers themselves. Government has [00:17] raised gasoline about 30% and diesel [00:20] about 40 and called it temporary. [00:24] Security forces are now firing live [00:26] ammunition to clear the road. The Syrian [00:29] pumps uh are u you know they need um [00:34] about 325,000 [00:38] barrels a day. Syria is currently [00:41] pumping about a 100,000 barrels a day. [00:43] The difference has always been that it's [00:45] getting imported but now because of the [00:47] war it's the cost of whatever the war [00:51] says it cost. [00:53] Now look up from Syria. In Portugal, [00:57] diesel hit an all-time high and drivers [00:59] answered with a wall of horns on a [01:01] bridge in Lisbon and then a slow convoy [01:04] out to the refinery. Ireland just had [01:08] its blockades and a no confidence vote [01:11] in the spring. Slovenia is rationing [01:13] fuel, 50 L a day per car. And Egypt has [01:18] ordered the shops closed at 9 at night [01:21] and dimmed all of the street lights. Sri [01:23] Lanka just went on to a 4-day work week. [01:27] All of this is oil. Bangladesh sent the [01:30] universities home to save power. [01:32] Ethiopia cut fuel to an entire region. [01:35] Thailand, their diesel went from 30 bot [01:38] a liter to over 50 in six weeks. [01:42] And here Friday, the national average [01:44] for diesel in the United States crossed [01:46] $6 a gallon. That's not a record for the [01:49] season. That is a record for all time. [01:54] First time it has ever happened. [01:56] Before this world uh before this war, it [01:59] was about $3.70. [02:02] Gasoline now is at 430. August inflation [02:06] came in uh at 3.4 4 and gasoline alone [02:11] was a third of the entire monthly [02:14] increase, up more than 27% on the year. [02:17] Core prices are accelerating. Producer [02:20] prices are running 5 and a half. Saudi [02:22] Arabia's output last month was its [02:24] lowest since 1990. The straight of [02:27] Hormuz used to move over 20 million [02:29] barrels a day. I don't know how many [02:31] barrels a day. They say it's under five. [02:33] Sometimes I hear it's, you know, close [02:35] to where it was. I don't know the truth, [02:39] but that's the news. [02:42] But the thing that you need to know [02:44] actually starts in a forest. [02:47] It was the summer of 2010. It was the [02:49] hottest Russia had ever measured and the [02:53] pete bogs outside of Moscow caught fire [02:55] and smoked smoke closed the city. Okay. [02:59] Out on the fields, the wheat was [03:02] cooking. They lost a third of their [03:04] entire crop of wheat. So what did Moscow [03:08] do? Moscow did the same thing that we [03:10] would do. It banned wheat exports. Keep [03:13] our own bread cheap. Any government on [03:16] earth would have done the same thing. [03:18] Here's the problem. Egypt buys more [03:20] wheat than any country in the world. And [03:23] the price of wheat ran up. And the price [03:26] of bread ran up right behind it. [03:30] That December, a fruit seller in a small [03:33] Tunisian town had his cart taken by a [03:36] city inspector. Within a month, the [03:38] government had stood 23 years. It had [03:41] stood 23 years. It was gone. 2 weeks [03:45] later, Egypt, then Libya, then Yemen, [03:47] Bahrain, Syria. Syria still isn't [03:49] finished. It was called the Arab Spring. [03:56] I learned this back then and had [03:58] completely forgotten about it until I [04:00] started putting this together today [04:02] because Arab Spring 2.0 they think is [04:05] beginning to happen again. Okay. In [04:08] Egypt, they don't use the ordinary [04:11] Arabic word for bread. They use their [04:14] own word and I think it's pronounced. [04:18] Aayash means life. But if you walk into [04:22] a market and you ask for life, a man [04:25] hands you bread. [04:28] When the square filled up, the chant was [04:30] three parts. Bread, freedom, and social [04:33] justice. But bread was first. [04:37] One more piece. There was a physicist in [04:40] Massachusetts who had plotted the United [04:42] Nations food price index against unrest [04:45] all over in the world. And he found the [04:47] line. Under the line, people complain, [04:50] but they they behave themselves. Over [04:52] the line, people get out into the [04:55] street. Any country, any language, any [04:57] flag. On the 13th of December, 2010, he [05:02] sent that warning to the United States [05:04] government. 4 days later, you had the [05:07] cart in Tunisia and the Arab Spring. [05:11] Nobody buried his paper. It's worse [05:14] worse than that. It arrived and there [05:17] was nothing anyone could do about it [05:19] because by the time the number was [05:21] visible, the wheat was already dead and [05:23] the fire was in July and the square [05:25] filled in January. So what are you going [05:28] to do about it? Not one person in Ter [05:31] Square was thinking about the Russian [05:33] forest. [05:34] But that's the lesson. Revolutions don't [05:38] arrive introducing themselves as re as [05:40] revolutions. They arrive as a burning [05:44] forest, a war, a cargo ship that went [05:47] down, wheat that doesn't arrive. [05:53] 9 days ago, the UN published that same [05:56] index. [05:57] August [06:00] 133.3. [06:02] That's the highest in three years. Every [06:05] category is up. grain, vegetable oil, [06:08] sugar, dairy, meat, wheat, 15% above [06:11] last year. Now, converted on today's [06:13] scale, that physicist line sits around [06:18] 125. [06:21] 125. [06:24] Now, we've been all over it for a while [06:27] cuz America is not Syria. We pump our [06:29] own oil. We're exporting it at records. [06:32] Nothing is rationed. The shelves are [06:33] full still. The food index is still well [06:36] below the 2022 record. And this world's [06:40] uh this year's world harvest is the [06:42] second largest ever counted. So, it's [06:44] not famine. It's just a squeeze. And [06:46] it's a squeeze [06:49] because of the pump [06:53] because we can't comfort ourselves with [06:54] the gasoline number. And gasoline is [06:57] your Saturday. [06:59] Diesel is your dinner. [07:02] Diesel is the tractor. It's the combine. [07:05] It's the semi that brings the milk into [07:07] your town or the the bread or the food [07:10] or the cans or whatever it else you need [07:13] to do your job. [07:15] $6 diesel in September is next spring's [07:18] grocery bill. It's already ordered. It's [07:20] already sitting in a tank in Ohio. [07:23] And better than 30% of the world's [07:25] fertilizer moves through the same the [07:28] same straight that the Navy is fighting [07:29] over. And the world doesn't seem to [07:31] care. [07:34] Then everybody's saying the president [07:36] has to do something tomorrow. I'm going [07:38] to give you something the president can [07:39] do. It would cut your price of 37 cents [07:41] per gallon. [07:45] But I don't think he's going to do it. [07:49] And it would piss the farmers off and it [07:52] would make our debt worse. [07:54] I mean, we're stuck in this problem here [07:58] for 20 years with with no matter which [08:01] party came in into the White House, we [08:04] would look at the number on the sign. [08:05] We'd look at the gas station and, you [08:08] know, we would say something when it [08:10] would you be up because of, you know, [08:12] policies of the Green New Deal, but [08:14] nobody in the media would say anything. [08:16] But the media is screaming about this. [08:17] And quite honestly, everybody should be [08:19] screaming about this. This is crazy what [08:21] we're paying for gas and uh and what [08:24] we're paying for diesel, [08:26] especially if people don't understand [08:28] why it's that expensive because nobody's [08:32] really brought them into this. You've [08:35] heard bumper stickers. [08:41] The president doesn't control the price [08:43] of crude. That's true. It was true when [08:45] Biden did. It's true now. But the man at [08:49] doing the arithmetic at the pump, he's [08:51] not asking for a seminar on causation. [08:54] He doesn't care. He's telling you, "I [08:57] can't make this work." And if you answer [09:00] him with a lecture or a bumper sticker, [09:03] somebody else is going to answer him [09:04] with a promise. And that somebody that [09:07] did that, [09:09] he'll go with them. [09:22] and he'll say yes to things in Lisbon, [09:24] in Dublin, and he'll say yes to things [09:27] here. [09:32] Don't watch the price, watch the word [09:36] temporary. [09:38] The Syrian Energy Ministry this morning [09:40] called it a temporary increase. They're [09:43] actually increasing the price. Ireland's [09:46] excise cut was temporary. Germany's uh [09:49] fuel tax cut 2 months. India was [09:51] temporary. Thailand froze uh diesel for [09:54] 15 days. 4 days from now, get this. The [09:58] finance ministers of the European Union [10:01] sit down in Dublin, six of them, [10:03] Germany, Spain, Italy, Poland, Austria, [10:06] Portugal. They have one item for the [10:09] agenda. You know what it is? a [10:12] Europeanwide tax on the profits of oil [10:17] companies. [10:18] Spain wants it permanent. [10:24] People will carry an enormous amount of [10:26] weight if you tell them the truth and [10:29] you tell them how long. What breaks a [10:32] country isn't the burden. It's finding [10:34] out that temporary was a word somebody [10:37] used to just get through last Tuesday [10:39] and they didn't actually mean it. [10:42] You can't if you tax the oil companies [10:46] in Europe [10:48] an extra 33%. [10:51] What do you think they're going to do [10:53] with that? You think they're just going [10:54] to eat it? They're going to pass that on [10:56] into the cost. They're not going to eat [10:58] it. They might eat some of it, but they [11:00] can't eat all of it. And so what do they [11:03] do? [11:05] Then your politicians will say, "See, [11:07] they're still being greedy." And then [11:09] the next step is to nationalize the oil [11:12] companies. And don't think they're not [11:13] going to they're not thinking about [11:14] doing it. They're going to do it. And [11:16] then you know how that ends? It ends in [11:18] Venezuela with people eating zoo [11:20] animals. It it's amazing to me how [11:22] stupid people are. We just keep falling [11:24] for the same thing over and over again. [11:28] But the fire was in Russia. The bread [11:30] was in Egypt. But nobody put those [11:32] things together until the square was on [11:35] fire. [11:37] You got to start putting things [11:39] together. [11:40] Look at the diesel number on the sign at [11:43] the gas station tonight. [11:46] That's the smoke. [11:50] Look at the price of groceries. Not [11:52] today, but in the future. [11:55] A fire is coming all over the world. [12:01] It'd be nice if the rest of the world [12:03] decided, hey, you know what? I want to I [12:06] want to go ahead and uh have some oil. [12:08] Maybe I should help out. Maybe I should [12:10] help out. Maybe I should help clear that [12:11] straight. Maybe I should stop the [12:13] Houthies with America. Maybe that would [12:15] be a good idea. They're not going to. [12:17] They're not going to. Why? I think they [12:19] hate Donald Trump more than they love [12:21] their own country and their own people. [12:24] It's pretty remarkable. You think things [12:25] are bad here? I want to show you the [12:27] insanity of what's happening. In [12:29] January, Europe wrote into law that it [12:31] finished it was finished with Russian [12:33] energy. Not a sanction that has to be [12:36] renewed every 6 months, but a permanent [12:38] regulation. Russian liqufied gas is [12:42] banned starting January 1st. Pipeline [12:45] gas next autumn. To me, that's a right [12:47] call. But that's just, you know, 15 [12:50] weeks away. What are they going to do in [12:53] the winter? [12:54] What are they going to do? [12:58] When we asked Europe to, oh, I don't [13:00] know, can you help escort tankers [13:02] through the straight? The answer was no. [13:04] France not participating at all, not [13:07] helping. Germany won't do so. Italy, [13:09] Greece, Britain, no. [13:13] No, [13:15] they're cutting off [13:17] every supplier that they have. [13:20] They're going to add this week. They're [13:22] going to add a 33% [13:25] increase, a tax increase [13:28] on their fuel over in Europe. [13:32] I'm trying to understand what they're [13:34] thinking. [13:36] What are they thinking? Can you imagine? [13:38] If you think it's bad now, can you [13:41] imagine where we would be if they would [13:43] have won? Because remember, they were [13:45] shutting down all of our oil refineries. [13:48] not our refineries, but our oil uh [13:50] supply. They were shutting it down. They [13:52] were going towards electricity while [13:54] shutting all of our gas plants down to [13:56] make electricity. We were going to [13:58] solar. Can you imagine where we would [14:00] be? We would be just as bad as Europe. [14:04] And that's right around the corner. [14:07] That's that will come back if you're not [14:11] paying attention and voting for [14:14] prosperity.
