Transcript [00:00] I want to pray this beautiful promise [00:02] from Psalm 31. I'm sitting on top of the [00:04] Mount of Olives and I'm reflecting on [00:06] this truth from God's word and I want to [00:08] share with you. Psalm 31 talks about the [00:11] protection of the Lord, how he keeps us [00:14] safe in his presence. And right now we [00:16] are celebrating the feast of [00:18] tabernacles, the feast of final in [00:21] gathering. In Hebrew, that is the word [00:23] sukkot. The singular is suka, which is a [00:26] tent, a tabernacle. And it's interesting [00:28] that in Psalm 31, God says that the one [00:30] who trusts in him, the one who fears [00:33] God, God's goodness comes over him, over [00:36] the one who trusts in him, and God keeps [00:38] him in his shelter. Guess what that word [00:40] shelter in Hebrew is? Besuka. It's the [00:44] suka of the Lord. Now, God uses [00:45] different types of imagery to show us [00:48] what kind of protection he gives us. We [00:49] know him as the rock. We know him as the [00:51] fortress. We know him as our shield. But [00:54] it's interesting that in this passage in [00:56] Psalm 31, he chooses to use this word [00:58] suka, the tent. Why? If you look at a [01:02] suka, it's flimsy. It's outside. It's [01:05] not very strong. It looks like it's open [01:08] to the elements. Why would God associate [01:11] his protection with a suka? And this is [01:13] the secret. And this is what we're going [01:15] to pray right now. You see, the suka [01:17] reminds us that our protection, that our [01:20] fortress, that our shelter doesn't come [01:22] from these transitory things. It doesn't [01:24] come from man-made things. Our help [01:27] comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven [01:29] and earth. The suka reminds us that the [01:32] protection of the Lord comes in those [01:34] times when we feel vulnerable. The [01:37] protection of the Lord comes in those [01:39] times when we feel that we are facing [01:42] the elements. when when life is coming [01:44] at us, when sickness is coming at us, [01:46] when things become difficult, that is [01:48] where God becomes our shelter, when [01:51] things are coming against us, and we get [01:53] to experience the reality of his [01:55] goodness in the midst of adversity. So, [01:58] let's pray right now that God's shelter, [01:59] his very presence would lift you up in [02:02] the moments when you feel the most [02:03] vulnerable. Father, I thank you that [02:05] your protection is real. I thank you [02:08] that those who trust in you will never [02:10] be put to shame. I thank you that your [02:12] very presence is promised to dwell with [02:15] us first by your Holy Spirit in us. And [02:19] one day your very presence, the very [02:22] reality of God dwelling with man. You [02:24] will come and you will set your feet on [02:26] the Mount of Olives and you will reign [02:28] from the earth. Father, I pray that the [02:32] truth of your word would sink deep into [02:35] the hearts of people. That your shelter, [02:37] your suka would be a a sense of of just [02:41] comfort, of peace, that you would lift [02:44] people up right now. Whatever they're [02:46] struggling, whatever things are coming [02:47] at them, whether it's sickness, we pray [02:49] for healing. Whether it's struggle [02:52] financially, Lord, we ask for your [02:53] provision. Lord, whatever it is that [02:55] people are facing right now, I pray that [02:57] they would shelter themselves in your [03:00] tent. That they would come under your [03:01] suka and know that you are God. That [03:04] your goodness showers over them. That [03:06] you lift them up. That you will not [03:08] leave them or forsake them. And just [03:10] like you protected the people of Israel [03:12] and you provided mana for them, that you [03:14] provided the sustenance that they needed [03:16] in the middle of the desert, you're [03:18] faithful to do it for anybody who calls [03:20] on the name of the Lord. And so we just [03:22] rejoice. That is the purpose of sukkot [03:25] to celebrate that you are the king of [03:27] the universe and that you reign and when [03:30] you reign and your kingdom comes all [03:32] things must submit to your lordship. So [03:35] we pray all these things in the name of [03:37] Yeshua in the name of Jesus. Amen. And [03:40] amen.
Why does a simple booth made of branches matter so much during Sukkot? 🌿
