Transcript [00:13] You're going to hear me ask for [00:14] something here, and I'll be upfront. I [00:16] don't love doing these reads. But the [00:18] truth is, the kind of conversation we [00:21] have on this show only works if we're [00:23] not chasing an algorithm or softening [00:25] what we think just to avoid offending [00:27] people. We get to have these [00:29] conversations because the only people we [00:31] answer to are our listeners. So, if this [00:34] show is valuable to you, consider [00:36] becoming an ARK Plus member. You can [00:39] join ARK Plus at arkmedia.org. [00:43] Welcome to Call Meback's Ask Me [00:45] Anything, our membersonly edition where [00:47] we open the door and let you shape the [00:49] conversation. Thank you for subscribing [00:50] to Ark Plus and supporting everything we [00:53] do here. Normally, this is an Ark Plus [00:56] exclusive, but this week is a little [00:58] different. On Monday, we officially [01:00] launched Ark Plus, and throughout this [01:01] past week, we've opened up the full Ark [01:03] Plus experience to everyone. So, whether [01:06] you're already a member or just taking a [01:08] look inside, you're hearing an episode [01:10] that would usually be available only to [01:12] our members. This is also a perfect [01:14] excuse to introduce you to the newest [01:16] members of the Ark family, Yael Barur [01:18] and Kaya Suffren, hosts of our brand new [01:21] podcast, Chosen People Problems. Yael [01:26] Ka, welcome to Call Me Back AMA. [01:30] >> Well, hi. [01:31] >> Thank you so much. [01:32] >> Thanks for having [01:33] >> so exciting. [01:34] >> You You did great, by the way. You're [01:35] really good at this podcasting. [01:37] >> You know, you know, I I know how to read [01:39] a a document that Alain and the team put [01:41] in front of me. I can do that. The the [01:43] where things get dangerous is when I [01:45] when I kind of, you know, [01:47] >> go freestyle and just start improvising. [01:49] >> Our specialty. [01:51] >> I know that. Yeah. I I from what I [01:53] understand the Douglas Murray was [01:55] subjected to some freestyle. [01:58] >> I tried to warn Douglas. I warned him. I [02:00] said, "This is a different kind of [02:01] interview than you normally do." And he [02:03] acted totally cool and fine that he got [02:05] it. [02:05] >> He seemed scared after. [02:07] >> He actually said after that he's [02:09] becoming an anti-sionist. [02:10] >> Yeah. [02:11] So sorry about that. [02:14] >> We've managed to turn Douglas Murray our [02:16] the only guy we got. [02:18] >> We got the only one left. [02:20] >> The only one left and we alienated him. [02:23] >> We're coming for John Spencer next. [02:26] >> I literally offended him in the first [02:27] question when I asked him if people only [02:29] care about him because of his English [02:31] accent. I didn't know that was like his [02:33] his like biggest fear is that people [02:35] don't take him seriously because of his [02:37] hard work, but because he's British. How [02:39] was I supposed to know that? So I [02:41] >> This is the thing though. I hear this [02:43] from Brits all the time by the way that [02:44] they're are very they're very [02:45] self-conscious about whether or not it's [02:47] their brilliance or it's their it's [02:49] their accent. So [02:50] >> yeah, privilege. [02:51] >> So I privilege. Okay. So for people who [02:54] haven't heard the show yet, how would [02:56] you describe chosen people problems? And [02:59] maybe in telling us that also tell us [03:01] who you guys are like who are you? [03:04] Where'd you come from? Why are you here? [03:07] I mean, I'm happy you're here. [03:08] >> Yeah. Why are we here? [03:09] >> No, I know why you're here, but you [03:11] know, [03:13] >> um, who who are we? What is our show [03:15] about? [03:16] >> I mean, our show is a mix of fun [03:20] conversations around like Jewish [03:22] identity, Israel, politics, but also [03:24] like pop culture. We come from very [03:26] different backgrounds. Yel grew up [03:28] secular Israeli in Tel Aviv. I grew up [03:31] Kabad in Long Beach, California. My [03:34] father's the Kabad rabbi here and my [03:36] mother's the rabbiton. I'm married. I [03:38] have four kids, all raised in like very [03:40] Kabad style. And Yella and I became best [03:44] friends over COVID. At the beginning of [03:46] COVID, we like became connected through [03:49] this libertarian podcast. I know that [03:52] makes no sense. People think we started [03:54] this because of Israel and Jewish [03:55] identity, but actually we started this [03:57] to complain about wokeness and then it [03:59] sort of turned into, you know, [04:01] especially after October 7th, it really [04:03] turned into a conversation that Jews [04:05] were having around their kitchen tables [04:07] and dining room tables and in their [04:08] backyards and things that mean a lot to [04:11] the Jewish people. But also, you know, [04:14] we talk about like is Ahmedad hot or [04:16] not? And you know, things like that, [04:18] >> which is still like TBD cuz we've gotten [04:20] a lot of different answers about that [04:22] from different [04:22] >> guest. We ask that a lot. That's a [04:24] question you guys are. It's not just [04:25] like a oneoff. [04:26] >> We asked Mark Dubowitz. Um, yeah, he he [04:30] has some thoughts. Actually, [04:31] >> he passed out and then had an answer for [04:33] us. But yeah, [04:34] >> as as most of your guests do, I I notice [04:36] this is a theme with every one of your [04:37] episodes that the guest goes through a [04:39] moment of having to adjust. Yes. re [04:41] reccalibrate [04:42] >> and then and then come back. [04:44] >> I will say this, we also I think we have [04:46] a pretty good track record of guests [04:48] becoming listeners after. [04:50] >> Yeah, that's nice. [04:51] >> Yeah. Yeah. [04:52] >> One listener at a time. You have them on [04:53] the It's an interesting growth strategy [04:55] cuz you get them on the podcast and then [04:58] they become a subscriber. [05:00] >> Yeah. Tell Elon that's our plan. Yeah. [05:02] >> All right. That's the plan. [05:03] >> Okay. So, just so our listeners [05:05] understand, your your episodes drop on [05:07] Tuesdays, but just like this episode, [05:09] your first AMA is also available to [05:12] everyone. [05:13] >> Yes. Slide right in. [05:15] >> Wow. Okay. So, if you if you like what [05:19] you hear, [05:19] >> that was Ka just for the record, the [05:21] Orthodox one. Okay. [05:23] >> Yeah. So, if you like what you hear [05:24] today, I just want to tell our [05:25] listeners, follow the link in the show [05:26] notes to subscribe to Chosen People [05:29] Problems and the rest of the full Ark [05:30] Plus experience. So that those are all [05:32] my administrative matters. Now I want to [05:34] get into questions from our community. [05:36] So you have to behave. [05:38] >> Do we have to like be like like a mate [05:40] and a dove? [05:41] >> Do you think they behave? [05:43] >> Yeah. I mean have you heard them in [05:45] Hebrew? [05:47] >> I mean it's interesting that you say [05:48] that because they've been getting a [05:49] little spicy with each other recently in [05:51] English. [05:52] >> Oh, I like it. We should do like [05:53] shipping. Do you know what shipping is? [05:55] >> No. [05:56] >> I don't I don't think I want to tell you [05:57] actually. [05:58] >> Don't tell me. Don't tell me. [05:59] >> Oh my god. But for the listeners who [06:01] know. Yeah. [06:01] >> No, I don't want It sounds like it's one [06:02] of these if you know, you know. And I'm [06:04] and I'm and I have gratitude that I [06:06] don't know. Um No, no, they they they [06:08] things have gotten good in a healthy [06:10] way. I I I actually like the heat. Um [06:13] but but you you guys decide what your [06:15] definition of behave is. Um I'm going to [06:17] start hitting you with these questions [06:18] we got. The first one is Michael from [06:20] Boca Ratan, Florida, who writes, "What [06:23] should Hebrew school look like in the [06:25] United States?" And then when when when [06:27] I think of Hebrew school, I think of [06:29] like after school, Sunday school. [06:31] >> Sunday. Well, I have what to say. I ran [06:33] a Hebrew school for like 10 years. So [06:36] Hebrew school is one of the worst things [06:37] that ever happened to American jewelry. [06:39] Honestly. [06:40] >> Wow. [06:41] >> Saying as someone who spent 10 years [06:42] running one. [06:43] >> I know. And I feel bad to say that [06:44] because I want Jewish parents to send [06:46] their kids to Hebrew school, but it's [06:48] actually the worst thing ever. We force [06:50] the kids to go to school when they're [06:52] supposed to be on their free time, [06:54] Sunday mornings or after school. and we [06:56] wonder why they hate it and resent it [06:57] and find it annoying. And so what do we [07:00] do? We try to make it super fun. You're [07:02] gonna freaking love it. We're going to [07:04] make an edible suka and we're going to [07:05] stand upside down on our heads and we're [07:08] going to laugh and we're going to watch [07:10] videos. And so what do we end up with is [07:12] kind of like a very sort of thin Jewish [07:15] education that's more like clown school. [07:18] I mean, I'm being I know I'm being [07:19] harsh, but like it is it is it is [07:22] >> I would I would call it shipping. It [07:24] sounds like you're shipping. [07:26] >> Oh, she is absolutely not shipping. This [07:28] is misbehaving, by the way. [07:30] >> I'm sorry. I know a lot there are a lot [07:31] of great Jewish educators who work at [07:32] Hebrew School and we work super hard and [07:34] I really appreciate it and it's the best [07:36] that we can do, but it's not the best [07:38] solution for educating our kids. And I [07:41] just they need to like we need more [07:43] depth in Hebrew school. That's what I [07:45] think. [07:47] >> Okay. Um, wow. There's a whole this [07:50] could be its own episode. No, really. Do [07:52] you think that the pervasiveness of [07:55] Hebrew school in the diaspora or at [07:57] least in the US has has been a failure. [08:02] >> I mean, I'm going to get a lot of hate [08:04] for this, but yeah, I think that it's an [08:06] excuse that Jewish parents give [08:09] themselves and and in fact, you know, [08:12] the Scholes also, I mean, the the [08:13] communities do this as well by saying [08:15] like, "Oh, it's okay that your kids go [08:17] to public school and here spend 2 hours [08:20] a week coming and you know, that's going [08:22] to be enough." When my grandmother who [08:24] was very very orthodox woman lived in [08:26] the lower east side and she didn't there [08:28] was no Jewish school for girls when she [08:30] was growing up she went to every single [08:32] day she attended public school in the [08:34] morning right like till 1:00 and then [08:37] every single day four to five times a [08:39] week she was in that was a that was a [08:42] way to educate Jewish kids Jewishly [08:44] right coming two two days a week for an [08:47] hour or two hours it's just it's so it's [08:51] not working it's Not I get it and I [08:53] think there I know I'm going to get a [08:55] lot of emails about this. There are [08:57] benefits and they get a Jewish identity [08:59] from it in some fashion, but if we want [09:02] literate Jewish kids, this is just not [09:05] it's not it. Sorry. [09:07] >> No, no, no. This this this is this topic [09:10] is a big focus of mine generally. So, [09:12] I'm not going to weigh in because I [09:13] don't want to offend as many people as [09:14] you you just offended. Terrible. [09:16] >> But I but I but I'm happy to have you do [09:18] it. All right, let's go to Maddie from [09:20] Rochester, New York, who writes, "Many [09:22] argue the rise of democratic socialism [09:24] is a response to extreme inequality. [09:27] It's a fair argument, but socialism is, [09:30] Mattie writes, a hard cell for [09:32] Americans. Do you think that the DSA and [09:34] Mumani would have been as successful [09:36] without anti-ionism leading their [09:38] messaging?" So basically, the core of it [09:41] is socialism, but according to Maddie, [09:44] socialism doesn't sell. I'm not sure [09:46] right now actually in this environment [09:47] that Mattiey's right, but let's just [09:48] accept the accept the assumption. So, [09:51] socialism is a hard cell. So, they need [09:53] something else to kind of make it more [09:54] attractive and anti-ionism is making it [09:58] more attractive. Again, this is Matt [09:59] what Mattiey's suggesting. Yeah. [10:02] >> Um, hi Maddie. Thank you for the [10:04] question that you thought somebody else [10:06] would answer. Um, but it's just me. I I [10:10] actually think like with anti-ionism I I [10:12] think we and I mean this in a good way. [10:15] Um I don't think we should credit [10:18] ourselves for a lot of this. I think [10:20] anti-Zionism and anti-Americanism [10:23] and anti- you know billionaires [10:27] anti-data center this is they're all [10:29] kind of fall under a very very similar [10:31] bucket to me where people think that [10:33] they're just hating the people who are [10:35] powerful and in charge. Now, of course, [10:36] they don't know what they're talking [10:37] about because they get all their [10:39] information from like, you know, an [10:41] Instagram carousel from BuzzFeed, but [10:45] you know, I I I think it's just it all [10:46] falls into the same bucket of being [10:48] angry at your parents where [10:51] >> you think anti-semitism that's a big [10:52] part of what's happening with [10:53] anti-semitism. I mean, anti-ionism. [10:55] >> Yeah. Yeah. Absolutely. I think a lot of [10:56] people who are anti-ionists aren't [10:58] anti-semmites. They're just idiots. And [11:01] I don't know what's worse, honestly. But [11:04] like it doesn't mean that in their heart [11:06] they're like, "Man, I really hate these [11:07] Jews with their like Shabbat dinners and [11:09] they're sukas, you know, they just, you [11:12] know, I hate people who are powerful [11:14] because I'm a child basically and I have [11:15] a child's understanding of the world." [11:18] >> So, let me give you a different take, [11:20] although it's not necessarily [11:21] inconsistent with what you're saying. [11:23] This is a point that Jonah Goldberg has [11:25] been arguing, which is that what's [11:27] attractive to young people about [11:29] socialism is that they actually think [11:31] it's new. Right. [11:32] >> Young voters always like what's new. So [11:34] So when they when they when they recoil [11:36] at mainstream Democrats, they say, "No, [11:39] no, no. You're invested in all these old [11:40] ideas. We need new ideas." And they [11:42] think new ideas [11:44] >> are represented by socialism, which is [11:46] ironic because it's the farthest thing [11:48] from a new idea, but they're just too [11:50] young to know it's a very old idea, and [11:51] they're too uneducated to know it's a [11:53] new idea. So they think socialism is [11:55] this cool new thing. And I guess could [11:57] anti-ionism be that for them, too? new [12:01] different even though it's the oldest [12:03] thing in the world. But yeah. [12:04] >> Yeah. Yeah. It's all repackaged. It's [12:07] all, you know, it doesn't really matter [12:10] if it's old or new because nobody's [12:12] going back and reading about this stuff. [12:13] Nobody's going back and learning about [12:15] it. Uh again, people are getting their [12:17] education from their heart, right? For [12:19] what they feel. and they see a video [12:21] online, they see something online [12:23] >> and they feel a certain way and they [12:25] decide that what their whole [12:26] geopolitical outlook is based on [12:29] >> something that they saw. And now Kyla [12:31] offended half your audience. Let allow [12:33] me to offend the other half if you don't [12:35] mind. [12:35] >> This is this is we launched Arc Plus and [12:38] today we're completely crashing it. So [12:40] here we go. [12:40] >> Yeah, exactly. And then please pay for [12:42] this, too. If you want to yell at us, uh [12:44] you should pay for this cuz then you can [12:46] you can actually access us. No, but I [12:47] also think we're we're fighting [12:49] anti-semitism wrong in a lot of ways by [12:51] calling all these people anti-semites. [12:53] And some people are anti-semites, don't [12:54] get me wrong, but calling everybody who [12:57] says anti-semitic things an anti-semite [13:01] is I think it's not productive because [13:04] basically what you're telling them is [13:05] you're telling them you're hurting my [13:06] feelings, [13:07] >> right? You're telling them you're you're [13:08] being bigoted. I know what's in your [13:10] heart. And a lot of these people don't [13:12] consider themselves anti-semmites. [13:13] That's why I think it's fair to call [13:14] them stupid or maybe, you know, find a [13:16] better way to call them out and say, [13:18] "Actually, you're wrong. Not only are [13:19] you wrong, you're being played. You're [13:21] being manipulated by other people [13:22] instead of just being like, you're being [13:24] mean to Jews." Like, I just I don't [13:27] think it's effective. We had um Olivia [13:30] Rinold on uh last year and she said she [13:33] kind of called it accidental [13:34] anti-semitism, which I could relate to. [13:37] >> So, let me read you a tweet. This [13:39] conversation is making me think of this [13:41] tweet I saw the other day which really [13:42] resonated by from Abe Greenwald who's a [13:45] good would be a good guy to have on on [13:46] chosen people problems by the way. He [13:48] writes there was an invisible moment I'm [13:50] quoting Abe here. There was an invisible [13:52] moment when woke and defund as in defund [13:55] the police went from being badges of [13:57] honor to terms of humiliation. [13:59] >> I saw that. [14:00] >> Keep it and then he says keep an eye on [14:02] the word genocide. M [14:03] >> so so it's like there was this invisible [14:06] moment where everyone used these words [14:08] and it was totally cool and and and you [14:10] know and and where the zeitgeist was and [14:12] now suddenly we we all including the [14:15] left talks about these words with like [14:17] contempt and like as though the it was [14:20] never a thing. And I asked a a um a [14:23] Democratic member of Congress this [14:25] morning. I I had mentioned this tweet to [14:27] him and he says, "Oh yeah, it'll be like [14:29] that with us with the Democrats in [14:30] genocide in two years." Like we'll laugh [14:33] at like the fact that we were throwing [14:34] around that term as though we were [14:36] actually knew what we were talking [14:37] about. [14:37] >> Do you think that's gonna happen? [14:39] >> Anti-Zionism one was crazy, Dan. [14:42] >> No, but do you think genocide will Do [14:43] you think genocide will [14:45] >> I I do. I actually I actually posted [14:47] something similar. I think that people [14:48] are going to pretend at one point that [14:50] they never said that. [14:51] >> Yeah. [14:52] >> Um that said, we are, you know, I think [14:55] we're facing more of an uphill uphill [14:57] battle for us. I'm I'm kind of very [14:59] involved in the the you know on kind of [15:01] the defund discourse because my previous [15:03] life [15:04] >> I I used to work for the NYPD and I was [15:06] involved in law enforcement. So when [15:08] people ask me like have you lost friends [15:10] since October 7th I say no because I [15:12] lost all those people when I started [15:13] working for the NYPD because again it's [15:16] the ven diagram of people who hate [15:17] Israel and people who hate police is [15:19] like almost a full circle. I was just [15:21] going to say that the people who are [15:22] turning socialist or DSA or anti-ionist [15:25] like it's because they don't know [15:26] anybody who lived in a real socialist [15:28] country or actually experienced that [15:30] kind of life and they don't really know [15:32] Jews or people who come from Israel and [15:34] so when they also don't know any right [15:36] so when they get when they meet people [15:38] like us or they get educated a little [15:39] bit or they read a book or something [15:41] they get out of college and like face [15:43] the real world I think it's going to [15:45] actually go away. These are not [15:46] sustainable ideas. They're just not. I [15:48] actually I think I think it's going to [15:51] be if that changes it's going to be more [15:53] top down than than bottom up. I think [15:55] people I think it's just going to appear [15:57] less like you know media people or [15:59] politicians are going to use it less [16:00] because it's consistently being proved [16:03] as as wrong. I think most people are [16:05] going to go with whatever their their [16:07] vibe and their groups are telling them. [16:09] Uh, most importantly, yeah, when you [16:11] said you posted something similar to [16:13] what Abe did, was that was that were you [16:14] planting a flag there that yours was [16:16] before his and so he was knocking off [16:18] your like was this like an IP complaint? [16:20] Like [16:20] >> it was definitely that and it was [16:22] definitely funnier. Um, but Ames was [16:24] probably smarter. So, you know, [16:26] >> I just want to understand exactly like [16:28] cuz I want to help our listeners read [16:29] between the lines and so what was like [16:31] there's what Yale said and then there's [16:33] what she really said. Okay. Um, [16:36] >> good. Nothing but respect for Abe. [16:38] >> Cat from Hoboka, New Jersey writes, "I'm [16:40] an observant conservative Jew and I [16:43] really want to take a 4-day backpacking [16:45] trip with my college friends, a mixed [16:47] group of men, women, secular Jews, and [16:49] non-Jews, but it is over a weekend and [16:52] I'm trying to be more observant of [16:53] Shabbat. That means I can't help with [16:55] starting the fire, doing the cooking, [16:56] pitching tents, etc. So, the burden on [17:00] the rest of the group weighs on me. [17:02] Should I just not go?" Wow. You're the [17:05] reason there's anti-semitism, lady. [17:08] >> Cat, I I'm just saying if I were [17:11] answering the if it was like a me [17:13] answering the questions, the the the [17:15] team the art team would never let me [17:16] answer a question like this. [17:19] >> I'm I don't know what I I amazed this [17:21] slipped through the cracks. Go ahead. [17:22] Ha. [17:23] >> What a cat do about her camping trip? [17:26] >> She should absolutely go and it's going [17:28] to be everyone's pleasure to help her [17:30] and assist her and she'll help more when [17:32] it's not Shabbat. You give and when you [17:35] can and the rest of your friends, if [17:36] they're really your friends, they'll be [17:38] happy for you and they'll assist you and [17:39] you should never feel bad about keeping [17:41] Shabbat. I don't care if someone has to [17:43] help me, okay? So, I pay them back [17:44] after. I'll help them on Sunday or [17:46] Friday or Wednesday. But you absolutely [17:49] go and absolutely don't compromise on [17:51] your Shabbat observance and your friends [17:53] will be very happy to help you. [17:55] >> I think you should go and and just keep [17:57] Shabbat twice next week and don't worry [17:59] about it. start next week [18:01] >> and don't listen to your L who doesn't [18:03] know what Shabbat is. No one has told [18:05] her yet. [18:06] >> So, I just pulled up I just pulled up an [18:10] amazing quote that this this little [18:12] exchange made me [18:14] >> Oh, is it from Abe Greenwald's Twitter? [18:16] Is that where it's from? [18:20] >> It was good. There's going to be a surge [18:22] in Abe Greenwald [18:25] uh Twitter followers. No, [18:27] >> Abe Greenwald and I got in a got into an [18:29] argument about your vision, but I'll [18:30] tell you about that one day. [18:32] >> Okay. But but I'm quoting Rabbi, this is [18:34] me really flexing here. You pull up Abe [18:36] Greenwald's Twitter and I come back to [18:37] you with Rabbi Jonathan Saxs. I'm [18:39] quoting the late Rabbi Jonathan Saxs who [18:41] famously taught and I'm quoting here, [18:43] non-Jews respect Jews who respect [18:46] Judaism and they are embarrassed by Jews [18:48] who are embarrassed by Judaism. [18:51] >> H I couldn't agree with him more. [18:53] >> That's true for everything in life, [18:55] >> right? I have actually seen this in the [18:57] non-Jewish world. [18:58] >> I agree [18:58] >> that um that that uh [19:01] >> I I generally find Jews who are serious [19:03] about Judaism command more respect [19:06] >> from non-Jews. [19:07] >> I told that to Jonathan Saxs FYI before [19:12] you DM'd him via age Twitter. Okay. [19:17] >> I'll just say one more thing. I took my [19:18] parents to central synagogue for [19:20] Yamipur. Their parents who are Yeah. [19:23] They're visiting from Israel. very very [19:24] secular and my dad like never go to [19:26] synagogue and my dad was like this is [19:28] like this was like church. [19:30] >> Yeah. Although her sermon was pretty [19:32] good. [19:33] >> Yeah. Yeah. I was we listened to that on [19:34] YouTube. [19:35] >> Yeah. Yeah. That's that that's that that [19:37] is like going to church is then watching [19:39] watching the service on YouTube. But [19:40] okay. All right. I'm going keep going. [19:42] Mal from Kosha says Slovakia. Wow. [19:46] >> That's where my mother's from. [19:48] >> Slovakia. I've been there. I've been to [19:50] Koshetta twice with my mother. Okay. ML [19:52] writes, "Hi, thanks to all ARK media [19:54] contributors for your excellent work. My [19:56] question is, has Fa, three years on, [19:59] done the best job of helping the world [20:01] understand what happened on October 7th, [20:03] 2023? Why does fiction succeed where [20:06] reality fails to get through to people?" [20:09] >> Good question. [20:10] >> Yes. [20:11] >> I just finished uh the season recently. [20:13] >> Did you watch episode five? [20:16] >> Uh seven and eight. The five the five [20:19] >> is it five? Seven and eight is is [20:21] getting all the news. But five is the [20:23] episode that I'm in. [20:24] >> Oh, wait. Really? [20:26] >> Yeah. See, I guess that [20:27] >> that's I'm embarrassed for you and for [20:29] me, but okay. But I'm in it. But keep [20:31] going. [20:33] >> I mean, I guess I do know why. It's [20:34] entertaining and you can draw people in [20:36] through entertainment more than you can [20:38] through, hey, look at this, you know, [20:40] terrible video. And it's also kind of to [20:42] go back to the Rabbi Saxs quote, it's [20:44] very unapologetic, right? And and it's [20:47] not like husbar. It's not like, you [20:50] know, look at us, we're so great. It's [20:51] just like this is it. This is who we are [20:54] >> and this is what we were dealing with [20:55] >> and this is what we're dealing with. And [20:58] you know, I think um I I don't know if [21:00] this is correct. Uh I'm I don't know if [21:02] I remember this correctly. Sorry. But I [21:04] think before Netflix bought them, they [21:06] had released all the the episodes uh [21:09] season one for free so people in the [21:11] Arab world could watch them because a [21:12] lot of it's in Arabic and they got a lot [21:14] of fans there. And yeah, I had people [21:17] reach out to me saying, you know, that I [21:19] haven't spoken to in a while saying [21:20] like, "Oh my gosh, I just watched season [21:22] 5 of Fa. It's so good." And then like [21:25] every Israeli kind of like with what [21:26] happened in the plane, you feel like [21:27] responsible. You're like you walk around [21:29] being like, "Oh my gosh, I'm so proud." [21:31] But I am proud. [21:32] >> I was just going to say I think that it [21:34] it works because we only understand life [21:36] anymore through TV and and Hollywood and [21:39] movies. I work with college students. I [21:40] don't think they understand anything [21:43] outside of the context of Hollywood [21:46] anymore. So if you have don't see it in [21:48] a movie or on a TV show, it's very hard [21:50] to kind of assimilate it into the what [21:53] it means. Even relationships, even [21:55] friendships, even anything that they do [21:58] in their lives is all through this lens [22:00] that we have been sort of pushed into [22:03] and that is through the lens of fiction. [22:05] And I that's how people are going to [22:07] consume I think all information from now [22:09] on. Like if we want them to know about [22:11] George Washington, they have to watch a [22:12] fictional movie about him. Otherwise, [22:14] forget [22:14] >> there's a good one by the way. There's a [22:16] new one. So I just had this conversation [22:18] this morning. I was at a bot mitzvah [22:19] this morning by the way. Isn't that [22:21] interesting to you? [22:21] >> It's the most dense scene or thing ever. [22:23] >> Friday morning. [22:25] >> Yeah, that's nice. [22:26] >> Do you want to explain what Hashana is? [22:28] Kle. [22:28] >> Hashana is the last day of Sukkot. It's [22:32] a very special holy day. Yeah, it's a [22:34] very holy day because it says that it's [22:36] the day that we like get our final [22:38] answer from God about rash like what we [22:40] prayed for on Rashan and on Yum Kipur. [22:42] It gets final. [22:43] >> Am I supposed to pray for things [22:45] >> today? Yeah, you do. We're not going to [22:46] make a big deal about it. It's too late. [22:48] >> No, she didn't even know about Yumipur. [22:49] It's fine. [22:50] >> I pray that people won't hate our show. [22:52] >> Yeah. [22:53] >> So, so okay. So, so this is the second [22:55] Bach Mitzvah I've been to on Hashana [22:57] Rabba. was at one a few years ago, a [22:59] friend of mine's kid, and then and then [23:01] I was at a friend of mine's daughter [23:03] this morning. Uh, in any event, but [23:06] that's not really why I raised that. But [23:07] on the drive home, the the Bob Mitzvah [23:09] was in Brooklyn and I was on my way back [23:11] and I was driving with a friend of mine, [23:13] Ben Archerald, who as was talking to me [23:15] about FA and we got into this whole [23:17] conversation about why it's breaking [23:20] through when it seems like [23:23] the world hates us and the certainly the [23:26] Hollywood creative scene is, let's just [23:28] say, unreliable and and and unbalanced. [23:32] And I I he was asking me and I honestly [23:35] don't have a good answer. Like we we we [23:38] all freak out and understandably [23:40] catastrophize about like this [23:42] documentary NAZA. The reality is [23:45] >> the number of people that are actually [23:46] going to be see Naza [23:48] >> like more people more people believe it [23:50] or not will be watching listen to this [23:52] episode of the podcast. even your [23:54] strategy of recruiting one listener at a [23:56] time like they they will more there will [23:58] be a larger audience for this than than [24:00] for NAZA and and we all freak out [24:03] because it was atrocious obviously and [24:05] yet FA is one of Netflix's top 10 shows [24:09] globally right now the whole world is [24:10] watching it I mean I honestly don't have [24:13] a good answer like how do I you know [24:15] there's there's something [24:16] >> also everybody in it is hot [24:18] >> really [24:19] >> I think most people even though Leor [24:21] looks it's funny because he looks like [24:23] every single guy at Israel, right? Like [24:25] he literally looks like every single [24:27] man. [24:27] >> What about Captain Aub? [24:29] >> So, you know something about Captain [24:31] Aub? I don't know if a lot of people [24:32] know this. [24:32] >> He's my favorite character, by the way, [24:33] in the whole show. [24:34] >> Do you know how he got his start? That [24:36] actor, [24:36] >> he was he's like a he's a standup. [24:40] >> Yeah. He was he was in a he was in a [24:43] drag [24:44] >> drag. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. [24:45] >> Yeah. Yeah. which actually performed at [24:47] my father's 50th birthday, [24:49] >> which I won't say how many years ago [24:51] that was. But it's so funny cuz I always [24:53] think of him as like a comedic actor [24:55] with a dress. [24:56] >> Yeah. I have always felt there's a [24:58] spin-off show for Captain Aub. It's like [25:00] FA's version of Better Call Saul. [25:02] >> When you when you talked about the Bach [25:03] Mitzvah, I thought you were going to say [25:04] that it was Fa themed, which I thought [25:06] would be really interesting. Bach [25:08] Mitzvah, [25:08] >> right? [25:09] >> Have you ever seen Have you ever been to [25:10] the Fa like experience? The Fa Theme [25:13] Park in Israel? [25:14] >> No. I'm being serious. [25:16] >> Really? [25:16] >> Wait, what? [25:17] >> Yes. No, it doesn't. [25:19] >> Yes. There's a whole FA like experience [25:21] where you like they have you dress up as [25:23] like the FA unit. [25:25] >> Is it called going to the IDF? [25:26] >> It's called FA. It's called FA. There's [25:28] like it's an it's like a it's like a [25:31] recreational tourist experience. Yes. [25:33] >> I'll say something something remarkable [25:35] about it too though that it's so popular [25:37] in Israel and outside of Israel. So it [25:40] kind of the fact that it appeals to [25:42] global audiencees and Israelis who who [25:44] know this stuff is really remarkable. [25:47] >> This is the world we live in. I you [25:48] asked me to read a book about India. [25:50] It's going to take me a long time to get [25:51] through it. I'm going to have to [25:52] struggle. Right. I watched the movie [25:54] Lion. Do you remember that movie? It's [25:56] about a little kid who gets lost. It's [25:58] based on a true story. He gets lost on [25:59] the train and he ends up in an orphanage [26:01] and then he's adopted by an American. I [26:03] watched that movie. I became the most [26:05] pro-Indian person you've ever met. I [26:06] almost adopted a kid. my my my my kabad [26:09] husband was literally taking my laptop [26:11] away from me because I was signing up [26:13] for an adoption agency in India so that [26:15] I could adopt Indian kids. There's just [26:17] something about movies and TV, the way [26:20] they penetrate us that an article in the [26:23] LA Times or a podcast episode is just [26:25] not going to do. It's just there's [26:27] something special about it. [26:29] >> Yeah. [26:29] >> By the way, another very popular Israeli [26:31] show is [26:33] >> Yeah. Oh, [26:34] >> my friend's Syrian [26:37] >> my friend's Syrian Christian husband who [26:40] is from Syria [26:42] >> is the one who convinced me to watch it [26:43] because I'd heard about it and he's [26:44] like, "No, no, it's so good and it's [26:45] amazing. [26:46] >> It is." [26:46] >> That's how I learned about Orthodox [26:48] people before I met Hila. [26:52] >> How people come to understand Israel and [26:54] Jewish life right now depends on who is [26:56] telling our story today. That work [26:59] requires more care and integrity than [27:02] ever before. And that doesn't come [27:03] cheap. Our ARK Plus members are the ones [27:07] who fund it. They support our mission [27:09] and get early access to our second [27:11] weekly episode, Adfree listening, and [27:14] our weekly membersonly ask me anything [27:17] episode. Join ARK Plus at arkdia.org. [27:21] And to our members, thank you. [27:27] I'm Deborah Parardes, the host of Ark [27:29] News Daily. What's happening in Israel [27:32] and the Jewish world right now matters. [27:34] But it can be hard to keep up, let alone [27:36] make sense of it all. And that's why we [27:39] started Ark News Daily. Every weekday [27:41] morning, I walk you through the most [27:43] important news, give you the context you [27:46] need, and let you know what to look out [27:48] for next. I don't try to convince you of [27:50] anything, and I don't want to waste your [27:52] time. So, on most days, I'll be in your [27:54] ears for about 10 minutes or less. then [27:57] you can move on with your day, hopefully [27:59] feeling a little smarter than before. [28:02] Subscribe wherever you get your podcasts [28:04] or follow the link in the show notes. I [28:07] hope to see you tomorrow. [28:13] Okay, Marlon from Frankfurt, Germany [28:16] writes, "Big fan and subscriber. In the [28:18] past years, Netanyahu has cozied up to [28:20] some far-right Eastern European leaders [28:23] with the AFD gaining momentum and [28:25] winning elections in Germany. Do you see [28:27] Netanyahu cozing up to the AFD like one [28:30] of his ministers, Amikai Shikley has? [28:32] The German Jewish community is highly [28:34] concerned about this. So, first off, do [28:38] either of you have a view of the AFD, [28:40] the rise of the right in Germany? You [28:42] can take this anywhere you want. [28:44] >> No one wants to hear that the right is [28:46] rising in Germany. that those words were [28:48] >> I was you were gonna say nobody wants to [28:49] hear our views about European political [28:52] parties. [28:53] >> I mean I [28:53] >> which one is Germany again? [28:55] >> Yes. [28:55] >> Is that the Holocaust one? [28:56] >> I don't think Antonio should cozy up to [28:59] that party. That's my opinion. [29:01] >> I would say uh [29:04] as we say in Hebrew, you know, [29:06] >> you got to translate [29:08] >> respect [29:09] but be wary. [29:10] >> Yeah. [29:11] >> Because none of these people are our [29:12] friends. [29:14] I So you're you're the the person that [29:16] you've turned into an anti-Zion is [29:18] Douglas Murray. Uh he has a he has a new [29:21] he has a piece up in the free press I [29:24] think. I got to double check that but he [29:25] has a piece up somewhere where he talks [29:27] about the AFD. He is not as worried [29:30] about the AfD and I I we should maybe [29:33] post the piece than others are about the [29:35] rise of other movements throughout [29:37] Europe. But generally speaking, I do [29:40] think the rise of the right in Europe is [29:43] and and I think we're likely to see the [29:45] continued ascendance of the right in [29:47] France. Uh depending, you know, there's [29:50] very a very plausible scenario where [29:52] whatever uh follows the Burnham [29:55] government in the UK will be, you know, [29:57] a hardright government potentially. I do [30:00] think all of these this entire movement, [30:03] this backlash going on in many European [30:05] countries will make it very hard for the [30:08] EU to impose any kind of comprehensive [30:13] sanctions against Israel. So while like [30:16] Mark Dubitz and I talked on our on call [30:18] me back the other day and he was [30:19] painting a picture where the EU could [30:20] step in and and engage in some [30:22] comprehensive set of sanctions and [30:23] economic um isolation of Israel. But to [30:27] do that, it's not just like you you need [30:29] a critical mass and I don't know what [30:30] the exact number is off the top of my [30:31] head of EU countries and there are a [30:33] number of these governments that are [30:35] either in existence or on the path to [30:36] being in existence or at least are [30:38] parties that are on the rise that will [30:40] make that very hard. So this creates [30:42] this dilemma to to to Marlin's point is [30:47] >> you know yes these parties may make [30:51] Marlin uncomfortable. Marlin I hear you. [30:53] Um, but from Israel's geopolitical [30:55] positioning, there's a balance that [30:57] they're trying to strike because some of [30:59] these governments and some of these [31:00] parties create a ball work against some [31:03] of the most dangerous policies [31:06] uh for Israel that could be directed at [31:08] Israel. [31:09] >> By the way, if things go south here in [31:11] the United States and somehow, you know, [31:13] our government government turns to be, [31:15] you know, pretty anti-Israel, Israel is [31:17] going to have to find new friends in the [31:18] world. And some of those friends are not [31:19] going to be our the greatest people. It [31:21] might be a ch, you know, it might be [31:23] something like China. It might be, you [31:24] know, other European countries that we [31:26] don't love or Latin American countries [31:28] and we're going to have to live with [31:29] that because Israel needs friends in the [31:31] world. But I will say that I had me do [31:33] all this research about Jews who [31:35] supported Mussolini in Italy, you know, [31:38] before the Holocaust. And, you know, the [31:40] Jews thought that this was the best case [31:42] scenario considering, you know, the [31:43] threat of communism, etc. And you see [31:46] how the Jews were really acting in their [31:48] own self-interest at that moment. But [31:50] then turn, you know, it turned out to be [31:52] obviously a terrible disaster. But what [31:55] you know, we're stuck all the time. Jews [31:57] are always stuck trying to make the best [32:00] situation out of horrible, you know, [32:02] realities. And I feel like Europe is [32:05] headed in that direction for a lot of [32:06] the Jewish communities there. It's it's [32:08] a tough choice. The left is not great [32:10] and the right isn't great. So where do [32:12] you go? [32:13] >> Dan, can I ask you uh about that? You [32:16] know, again, my knowledge of Europe is [32:18] is pretty much Eurovvision, so I can [32:20] tell you which countries like voted for [32:22] us and which didn't, which really [32:24] correlates with how anti-semitic they [32:26] are. [32:26] >> Um, so I'm not even joking. I'm going to [32:30] make you do a Eurovvision episode in uh [32:32] in May next year. [32:34] >> It's amazing. But um no, but what I was [32:37] going to say about that is I don't for [32:39] my limited understanding and please tell [32:41] me what you think [32:43] on a on a like people level, not [32:46] necessarily on a on a political level, I [32:48] I find that people being alarmed by the [32:52] rise of, you know, Islamism in Europe or [32:55] people being anti-immigration [32:57] in Europe doesn't necessarily correlate [32:59] with support of Israel. Like they have [33:01] room in their hearts to hate all of us. [33:04] Yeah, I think both of those sentiments [33:07] are they live in parallel, but they're [33:09] not connected. [33:11] >> So, so what I mean is I think there's [33:14] growing support, believe it or not. This [33:15] is a very contrarian take and heads are [33:17] going to explode when I when I say I'm [33:19] about to say because people are going to [33:20] think it's so inconsistent with their [33:21] with what they're observing. But um I [33:24] think there is growing dependence on [33:28] Israel for strategic and security and [33:32] defense tech capabilities. [33:34] >> As I've argued on coming back a lot, [33:36] there are two laboratories uh that are [33:39] the future of warfare and the future of [33:40] defense. there Ukraine and Israel and [33:43] the whole world and specifically the [33:45] West is looking at both of those [33:48] countries and saying what can we learn [33:49] from these places and how can we hop in [33:52] the laboratory and understand what they [33:53] understand and leverage and piggyback [33:55] onto their due diligence and their [33:58] knowledge and the skills and the [33:59] capabilities and the technologies [34:00] they've developed and in a world in [34:02] which government after government after [34:04] government is spending more and more in [34:06] defense talking about EU countries and [34:08] NATO countries are spending on defense [34:10] budget s now in ways I never would have [34:12] imagined [34:14] 10 years ago, 5 years ago, 2 years ago [34:16] and and they're all doing it and they're [34:18] all looking at at Israel and Ukraine. [34:21] So, it's a very realist approach and [34:23] like a real politic approach to how [34:25] people in these countries are making [34:27] decisions. They're like, I don't love [34:29] Israel. I don't hate Israel. I don't [34:31] love the Jews. I don't hate the Jews, [34:32] but I need them. [34:33] >> I'll take it. [34:34] >> I need to partner with them. So, it's [34:36] not the this this romanticized view of [34:38] Zionism and this romanticized view of [34:40] Israel and shared values and common [34:42] history that we have. It's purely [34:45] like what have you done for me lately? [34:47] And turns out Israel is doing a lot for [34:49] a lot of people lately, even if they [34:50] don't want to talk about it. And even if [34:52] it's politically awkward in their own [34:54] constituencies and districts and [34:56] countries to talk about it and so I [34:58] think that is going to be the driving [35:00] force. So, it's not about like I hate [35:01] Jews, I love Jews, I hate, I love [35:03] Israel. It's I need something from them. [35:05] >> It's pragmatic. Yeah. [35:07] >> We were so we were so cute with the UAE [35:09] after this whole uh plane thing where [35:12] the UAE was like, "You guys were great." [35:13] We're like, "No, you guys were great." [35:15] Like, I feel like everybody really, you [35:17] know, there's a lot going on. the UAE. I [35:21] mean, I there was a senior official from [35:22] the UAE who told me and this was this [35:24] was not after the fly Dubai uh thing, [35:26] but you know this after this told me [35:29] that this summer that at the end of the [35:31] day they the UAE government believes [35:33] after the the what they dealt with with [35:35] Iran during the Iran war, the only [35:37] country in the entire region that they [35:38] can depend on is Israel. [35:40] >> They said we're part of the Arab League. [35:41] Not a single member of the Arab League [35:43] called us when we were when there were [35:44] barges of missiles hitting Dubai and Abu [35:47] Dhabi. were a part of the Golf [35:48] Cooperation Council. Not a single [35:49] country from the Golf Cooperation [35:51] Council called us and said, "How can we [35:52] help?" The only people that called was [35:55] Netanyahu and the Israeli government and [35:57] said, "We're deploying Iron Dome. We're [35:59] deploying," it sounds like ultimately [36:01] was over a thousand Israeli personnel. [36:03] We're going to help you set up the [36:04] equivalent of your, you know, an [36:05] emergency response system to alert your [36:08] citizens. Israel was there for them like [36:10] that. Even you mentioned Nadav, even [36:13] Nadav, you mentioned Nadav earlier. [36:15] Nadav who is a big critic of the current [36:17] Israeli government even he said these BB [36:20] and this government he told me this not [36:21] on the podcast he told me this over [36:22] dinner so he may be annoyed that I'm [36:24] saying it here but he he said [36:26] >> invite Dan [36:27] >> he he said even BB was like was like [36:30] smart to jump on this and and reach out [36:33] to the UAE right away and move quickly. [36:36] So [36:36] >> my cousins are Kabad there in Dubai and [36:39] >> are you serious? [36:40] >> Yeah. [36:41] >> Wow. and and my cousin's son just became [36:44] the Kabad rabbi in Saudi Arabia. I'm not [36:46] exact. Yes, there is now. I don't know [36:48] if I'm supposed to announce this [36:49] actually, but whatever. I'm just started [36:51] a geopolitical like [36:53] >> No, but her son is going back and forth. [36:56] >> She'll do anything to get listeners. [36:58] >> Yeah. And if you want to know how to [37:00] contact him, sign up for Art Plus. [37:02] >> Exactly. [37:03] >> That's amazing. That would be its own [37:05] conversation about about the rise of [37:08] Kabad in in the Muslim world. [37:10] >> Crazy. Yeah, [37:11] >> last question. Ari from St. Louis, [37:12] Missouri writes, "Israel has become a [37:14] contested topic in both major parties. [37:17] Name a politician with 2028 presidential [37:20] ambitions who would be able to deal with [37:22] those challenges during the primaries. [37:24] Please name one politician from each [37:26] party." [37:27] >> Oo, [37:29] my boy Marco Rubio. He can do anything. [37:32] >> That's easy, [37:32] >> as we know. Yeah. [37:33] >> What about a Democrat? A Democrat? [37:37] >> I mean, I'm gonna say Gavin Newsome. I [37:40] think he can handle it. [37:42] >> Israel of apartheid. [37:43] >> I know because he's handsome. [37:44] >> I think no, but he cuz he's like a TV [37:47] guy. He's like the West Wing president [37:49] and he'll he'll massage it and with his [37:52] smile and his good hair and he'll say, [37:54] "No, you know, I didn't mean it that [37:56] way. You misunderstood. This is what I [37:58] think Gavin Newsome is going to be able [37:59] to kind of walk that line more than [38:01] anyone else that I can think of." [38:03] I would say, [38:06] what about Van Jones running as a [38:08] Democrat? [38:11] >> That would do that. Why would he do [38:13] that? I Please, Van, don't do that. [38:15] >> What? I don't know. One of the Joshes. [38:16] Who are all the the Jewish [38:18] >> Josh? No, that's the worst. No, no, no, [38:20] no, no. They'll be the worst. [38:22] >> I have this I have this ongoing argument [38:23] with Mark Halpern who believes [38:25] >> and I disagree with him. He believes [38:28] that the most promising group of [38:32] candidates just in terms of their their [38:34] political skills and their [38:35] organizational skills and the where [38:37] they're positioning themselves within [38:38] their parties for all for different [38:40] reasons all happen to be Jewish. [38:42] >> Yeah. Well, [38:43] >> Assaf. [38:44] >> Yeah. [38:45] >> Shapiro. [38:47] Uh Rahm Emanuel. Like he goes through [38:49] like some of the most talented [38:50] politicians happen to be. Now, look, [38:51] they some of them like, you know, [38:53] they're not, you know, just because [38:54] they're Jewish doesn't mean they're [38:56] Jewish, but it is interesting. No, I um [38:58] I I'm going to punt on answering this [39:01] question until after the midterms [39:03] because I do think the outcome of the [39:06] Michigan Senate race [39:08] >> will be an earthquake, [39:10] >> like one way or the other. Meaning if [39:12] the Democrats [39:15] win the Senate majority [39:17] because they won the Michigan Senate [39:19] race with Abdul Al Sayed, [39:21] >> he will instantly be a rocket ship in [39:23] Democratic politics. And the takeaway [39:24] the Democrats will will have from the [39:28] 2026 midterms [39:30] >> will be this is this is the path. This [39:33] is the ticket. Elsa won a state that [39:34] Donald Trump won twice. What do you mean [39:36] we can't run a a DSA type candidate who [39:38] has the views that he has in the [39:40] heartland in the heart of the country [39:42] and that will shape the 2028 [39:44] presidential election at least as the [39:45] Democratic primaries are concerned if he [39:47] loses [39:49] >> at a time when Democrats should be [39:51] winning just about everywhere given how [39:53] bad the environment is for Republicans. [39:55] Hopefully, there'll be a conversation [39:56] among Democrats that you like, you [39:58] idiots, we nominated this guy who [40:01] couldn't win in an environment where [40:03] just about every Democrat was winning. [40:04] And that could also then give Democrats [40:07] some like pause about, you know, how hot [40:11] their rhetoric has become as it relates [40:12] to Israel and the Jews. So, I think it I [40:14] think these midterms are going to [40:15] matter. [40:16] >> I heard he's I heard he's 56 Abdul S. [40:19] >> No. Is that true? Is that true? [40:21] >> Well, I don't know. Now that Dan said, [40:22] I'm taking my whole family and all my [40:24] 400 first cousins. I'm moving to [40:26] Michigan to vote because it really like [40:29] this week. [40:30] >> Early voting starts in a week. [40:32] >> Next week. I mean, oh my god. [40:35] >> All right, guys. That's all for our [40:37] questions. [40:37] >> Wait, that's all. We want more [40:38] questions. [40:39] >> Well, I just want to save a moment to [40:41] wish Kylea Mazotov because her son is [40:43] getting married in a few days. [40:45] >> Thank you. Yes. Thank you. [40:46] >> By the way, how on earth is your son [40:47] getting married? What is he four? [40:49] >> Well, I'm 20. No, I have my oldest son [40:53] who's 24 years old is getting married. [40:55] So, we're this our muscle. That is [40:57] amazing. [40:57] >> Yeah. I have four sons and so he's the [40:59] first. So, we're welcoming a new uh a [41:02] girl into our life which is odd. I'm [41:04] used to being the only uh female around [41:07] but yeah, we're very excited. [41:08] >> And where where is he getting married? [41:10] >> In Cleveland, Ohio. She's uh Cleveland [41:14] >> in um [41:14] >> I know Cleveland very well. [41:15] >> Oh, you do? It's called Lander Haven. [41:18] It's in Mayfield Heights or something. [41:19] >> I know Mayfield Heights. Yeah, [41:21] >> it's named after Brad Lander. [41:24] >> Um, can Dan, can I send you my hotel and [41:27] tell me if I'm going to get like stabbed [41:28] there? [41:29] >> Yeah. Yeah, I was coming. I have no idea [41:31] where I'm going. Yes. [41:32] >> Oh, yeah. Yeah. Oh, yeah. No, no, no. [41:34] Yeah, send me your hotel. I I know. I [41:36] know. I [41:36] >> It's a very It was a I called today. I [41:39] called to make my reservation cuz I do I [41:41] do everything late [41:42] >> and it was it I'm in the overflow [41:44] overflow hotel but the woman was telling [41:46] me she was like we're getting a lot of [41:48] calls about this wedding. [41:50] Sorry. [41:51] >> Okay, so wait let me just say by the way [41:53] before also before we break Yale real [41:55] quick. What is your what is your riff on [41:57] Eurovvision? [41:58] >> Oh my gosh. I think Eurovvision is one [42:00] of the most interesting geopolitical [42:03] stages in the world. Um you get [42:06] everything on it. It's like the UN but [42:08] like super gay and sparkly. Uh and you [42:12] have the music is terrible. Everybody [42:14] could admit to that. But it's not really [42:16] about the music. It's about the dynamics [42:20] between uh the countries that judge [42:22] because every every country gets to vote [42:24] with judges and with tele votes. And [42:27] over the last I think 3 years it's been [42:30] a huge mess like with with Israel, [42:32] right? Like a bunch of countries pulled [42:33] out. Ireland, Spain, we're never going [42:35] to forget this. And consistently [42:38] judges from these countries who are [42:41] publicly known have scored Israel low [42:44] and tele votes have scored Israel [42:47] straight to the top. So we've gone from [42:50] place like 15 by judge votes to like [42:52] >> came in I think number uh I think five [42:57] three and two over the last few years. [43:00] Now, the songs were bangers, too. But I [43:02] think it's such an interesting story, [43:04] and I'd like to see a glimmer of hope in [43:06] that. I I don't know if it's a bunch of [43:08] Israelis, but I it can't only be a bunch [43:10] of Israelis in, you know, uh, whatever. [43:14] >> The question is, are they Is it the AFD? [43:16] Where are they? Where's the AFD? [43:18] >> I don't know what song they submitted. I [43:20] don't know what song they [43:22] >> She made us do a whole episode on this. [43:23] Okay. Okay. I had to sit through an [43:25] entire 1hour episode talking about [43:27] >> and I wrote an article for the New York [43:29] Post that we can link. [43:32] >> Yes, I am. I'm the New York Post [43:33] Eurovision correspondent. Thank you very [43:35] much. [43:36] >> Okay. You did a whole episode that that [43:38] that stretched longer than the two [43:39] minutes you just did, but it's already [43:41] felt long. So, I'm imagining what like [43:42] an hour what an hour of this felt like. [43:45] >> By the way, the guy that we interviewed [43:46] is a sports commentator. I'm still No, [43:48] I'm still going. Do you want me to [43:50] listen? I don't even know. But he's a [43:52] sports commentator in Israel. Sha [43:54] Davidovich is great. [43:55] >> But he because he loves sports, he also [43:57] loves your vision because it's like [43:59] sports [44:00] >> for people like me. [44:02] >> Mhm. Mhm. [44:04] >> Okay. Well, listen, [44:07] >> we're going to wrap there because I [44:10] don't I I really want to minimize the [44:12] loss of listeners and subscribers. [44:14] >> I mean, every minute just less and less. [44:16] >> This is just like you can watch the you [44:17] know, like the Okay, [44:19] >> Shabbat shalom, guys. Shabbat. [44:21] >> Excited to have you on on to have you [44:23] with excited to have you in the Ark [44:25] family [44:26] >> and thank you for taking a chance on us. [44:28] I know. I mean, it's probably too late [44:29] now for you to take it back. [44:30] >> We're in this is what we call in the [44:32] business sunk costs. So, [44:35] >> and Ark Media, which is uh going to be [44:36] fun sponsored by the New England [44:38] Patriots. I'm very excited. I'm going to [44:40] work on that. [44:41] >> Now, you really crossed the line. [44:42] >> I know [44:43] >> that that I'm I'm I'm ready to go back [44:45] and talk about your vision. [44:48] We're going to revisit this. [44:50] >> Hashem is a Patriots fan. I think one of [44:52] our earliest episodes [44:53] >> he is. [44:53] >> You're just trying to needle me and I [44:55] don't appreciate it. Especially as I had [44:56] >> This is what it's going to be like a [44:59] 15-year contract. Dan, this is what it's [45:01] going to be like. [45:02] >> We're attached to you. You have [45:05] >> We can't Oh my god. All right. And just [45:08] a reminder, you can listen to Yale and [45:11] Kaya every Tuesday on Chosen People [45:15] Problems. And every Thursday, you can [45:18] listen to their AMA uh for Arc Plus [45:21] subscribers. [45:22] >> And please listen cuz Dan is going to be [45:23] so mad at us if we don't get listeners. [45:25] >> If if the metrics are weak, we have [45:27] problems, you know, because But don't [45:29] worry, we have a backup plan. We've [45:31] already we've already worked out a [45:32] podcast. Abe Greenwald is going to have [45:33] his own podcast. Good [45:35] >> and [45:36] >> about your vision. Yeah. About [45:38] Eurovision. [45:38] >> It's just going to be him saying it's so [45:40] much worse than that. It's so much worse [45:42] than that. [45:42] >> Yeah. Yeah. Exactly. It's worse than [45:44] that. I love that you know that. That [45:46] abism. It's worse than that. [45:47] >> It's They've really milked that. Okay. [45:50] Goodbye, guys. [45:51] >> Bye.
