Did the Church Replace Israel? Replacement Theology Explained — Israel Masterclass Deep Dive

Did the church replace Israel? Some of us picked up that idea without ever really being taught it. Others were taught it directly: when you read Israel in the Bible, just swap in "the church," or "me." Either way, it's worth asking whether that's what Scripture actually says. In this session of Israel Masterclass, Preston Benjamin makes the case that how we understand the relationship between Israel and the church isn't a side issue. It's a test of whether we believe God keeps his promises. Preston helps us understand what the word "church" really means long before "church" ever meant a building. A few of the things he walks through: • What Ekklesia actually means, and the Hebrew idea behind it • The two opposite ways replacement thinking creeps in, "One New Jew" and "One New Gentile" • Punitive, Economic, Structural & Christological replacement theology explained • Dual Covenant Theology and Dispensationalism, and where they fall short The Church doesn't replace Israel and Israel doesn't dissolve into the Church. Instead, the New Testament calls us into a beautiful, complex mystery: Jew and Gentile, united in one Messiah, without erasing either identity. Get this wrong and you'll misread half the New Testament. Get it right and a lot falls into place.
