Transcript [00:00] Speaking of suffering and death, uh the [00:03] political activists are causing a lot of [00:05] suffering for Ed Sheeran who finally [00:06] caved. You know, this whole story. Ed [00:09] Sheeran's doing a tour. He invited Mmore [00:11] to do the tour. Mackmore, I guess, is [00:12] some singer or whatever. And Mmore [00:14] decided to hijack the stage to make it [00:16] all about his views on the Israel [00:18] Palestine conflict. And then activists [00:20] on the other side who own the venues [00:22] said that they were that Ed Sheeran had [00:24] to fire Mmore from the tour because they [00:26] don't like his views on Israel and [00:27] Palestine. And then Ed Sheeran finally [00:29] did it. But then he caught a little bit [00:30] of backlash from the other activists. So [00:32] he finally Ed Sheeran who was [00:33] assiduously avoided talking about [00:35] politics in his career. He addressed it [00:38] on stage. We'll get to it. First I want [00:40] to tell you about pre-born. Go to [00:41] pre-born.com/nollesc. [00:44] I told you recently about a woman named [00:45] Alba. Alba has been told pregnancy was [00:48] impossible. Then her husband's diagnosis [00:51] confirmed it. A child of their own [00:52] simply was not going to happen. So when [00:54] she unexpectedly became pregnant, she [00:56] was not overjoyed. She was afraid and [00:58] overwhelmed. Then she walked into a [00:59] pre-born network clinic. She received a [01:01] free ultrasound. She saw her baby, heard [01:03] that tiny heartbeat, and everything [01:04] changed. Alba chose life. Today, baby [01:07] Laura is healthy and thriving. And right [01:09] now, another mother is walking into a [01:10] clinic feeling just as scared as Alba [01:13] did. You can help give her that same [01:15] moment. Right now, another mother needs [01:18] that moment. You can give it to her. [01:21] Just $28 helps provide one life-saving [01:23] ultrasound. 140 bucks helps rescue five [01:26] babies. Please donate today. This is a [01:28] group that I personally support. I [01:30] strongly encourage you to give what you [01:31] can. The ROI is great. Dial pound 250. [01:32] Say keyword baby. That's pound 250 [01:34] keyword baby. Or go to [01:36] pre-born.com/nolles. [01:37] That's pre-born.com/nolles. If you're a [01:39] business owner, maybe consider a larger [01:42] donation and claim a write-off donation [01:43] of a,000 2,00010,000. I recommend [01:45] $15,000. [01:47] That would sponsor an ultrasound machine [01:49] for a needy clinic helping to save [01:51] countless babies lives for years to [01:52] come. All gifts are taxdeductible and [01:54] they will reach eternity. Get involved [01:55] today. You might not care about [01:57] politics, but politics cares about you. [01:59] Ed Sheeran gets squeezed. This is his [02:02] take. [02:04] >> I am deeply worried about the idea that [02:06] venues should preapprove content with [02:09] performers. This happens in so many [02:10] places that I perform around the world, [02:12] but it should never happen in the free [02:14] world. [02:15] [cheering] [02:19] Now I want to address the question of [02:22] where I stand in the situation in Israel [02:24] and Palestine and whether my doing this [02:26] concert here tonight implies where I [02:28] stand. I have tried in my career not to [02:30] be a political commentator of any kind [02:33] because I want my music and shows to be [02:35] about unity, not division, about [02:37] humanity, not politics. [02:41] [cheering] [02:42] [applause] [02:43] But this is a humanitarian issue and I [02:47] cannot hide how I feel about it anymore. [02:50] What happened in Israel and at the NMA [02:52] music festival on October 7th was [02:54] horrific and compounded centuries of [02:56] Jewish pain. What is happening in Gaza [03:00] is catastrophic and unjustifiable and [03:03] disproportionate. My heart has been [03:06] broken by the scale of devastation and [03:08] loss of civilians lives of children's [03:11] lives. [03:13] and the systemic injustice we're seeing [03:15] unfold in the West Bank cannot be [03:17] overlooked. [03:18] >> Okay. Now, no, the most interesting [03:20] thing about this clip, it's being [03:21] reported and Sharan sobs on stage over [03:24] the Israel Palest [03:26] he's he's giving a very measured take. [03:29] Notice though where he gets the [03:31] applause. He doesn't get the applause [03:34] for speaking out against Israel, [03:37] nor does he get the applause for [03:39] defending Israel and criticizing Hamas. [03:42] He doesn't get the applause for either [03:43] of those. He gets the applause for his [03:44] preface when he says, "Look, I've tried [03:46] not to be a pundit. I'm not a political [03:48] commentator. I just want to play my [03:50] tunes and make people feel good at a at [03:53] a concert." That's where he gets the [03:55] applause. That's where the whole crowd [03:56] is going, "Woo! Yeah, you're right. [03:57] Don't talk about politics. We don't want [03:59] that." [04:01] But Ed Sheeran has been forced to talk [04:03] about politics because of a very small [04:06] number of political activists on both [04:08] sides of this issue. [04:10] The the the idea that there is some huge [04:13] number of ardently pro-Palestine [04:16] activists in the Ed Sheeran audience or [04:18] the broader public is absurd. The [04:20] handful of people who are really [04:22] hardcore free Palestine and the [04:25] apartheid Israel regime wearing the keff [04:27] is marching in the streets. It's like [04:29] four people in Greta Thunberg. Okay, [04:30] it's not a real constituency. [04:33] Likewise, the people who are ardently [04:36] pro-Israel, who demand that we [04:38] dehumanize the Palestinian Arabs and we [04:42] say that the defense of the Israeli [04:43] state is the most important, there are [04:44] like five of those people, too. [04:48] The activists wield an undue amount of [04:50] influence in the political conversation, [04:53] but they don't. Most people don't care [04:55] that much. You want to know the thing [04:56] that's going to equally irritate the pro [04:58] Palestine people and the pro-Israel [05:00] people? Most people don't care that much [05:02] about the Israel Palestine conflict. I [05:04] find it interesting. It's a it's an [05:05] intractable geopolitical problem. It [05:07] goes back millennia. But in terms of the [05:10] people who actually it's very very few [05:12] and that's what's being represented in [05:14] the applause. [05:16] And so why is Ed Sheeran doing this? The [05:19] reason Ed Sheeran is doing this is [05:21] because both of those groups wield a [05:22] disproportionate amount of influence in [05:24] the conversation. the pro Palestine [05:26] groups uh control a lot of public uh [05:30] opinion institutions and the pro-Israel [05:32] groups wield a lot of power within [05:34] various industries as well. And so it [05:36] was the it was the pro Palestine groups [05:39] who were jinning up who were creating [05:41] all of that fervor such that Mackmore [05:43] decides to hijack Edge Sheeran's concert [05:45] tour. And then it was the pro-Israel [05:47] groups who got the venue owners to try [05:50] to shut down the tour and to pressure Ed [05:51] Sheeran into firing Mackmore. And here's [05:54] Mmore squeezed in the middle. And so [05:57] what is his opinion? The opinion he [05:58] offers is it's really bad what Hamas did [06:02] to the state of Israel on October 7th, [06:04] 2023. And Israel was maybe a little [06:07] heavy-handed in some of the response to [06:09] that in Gaza, and the Israeli settlers [06:12] are committing crimes in the West Bank. [06:15] In other words, he has the most moderate [06:17] view that basically every reasonable [06:19] person believes in. No moral person can [06:23] possibly say that what the what Hamas [06:25] and the Gazins did to the state of [06:27] Israel on October 7th is in any way [06:29] justified. It was completely horrific. [06:31] And I think most observers would say the [06:33] Israeli state sometimes is a little bit [06:36] heavy-handed in their military [06:37] operations. [06:39] And basically every reasonable person, [06:42] including up to the United States State [06:44] Department, says that the Israeli [06:46] settlers are expanding way too much in [06:47] the West Bank and they need to cut it [06:48] out. In other words, Ed Sheeran just [06:50] goes on stage and goes, "You want my [06:51] political opinion? I'm going to give you [06:54] the most normiemy and unobjectionable [06:56] political opinion ever." And people [06:58] don't even really want that. Good on [07:00] Sharon. People are knocking Shearan [07:02] because they're saying, "Oh, he's [07:03] capitulating [07:04] either to they're accusing him of [07:06] opposite crimes, either of capitulating [07:08] to the pro-Israel forces or the pro [07:10] Palestine activists or whatever." He's [07:12] not doing that. And he's saying, you [07:13] know, my view, my view is the most [07:15] normie view, which is held by probably [07:17] 85% of people on this subject. And by [07:21] the way, I don't want to talk about [07:23] politics for my concert stage. I'm not [07:25] competent to do it. I'm not a political [07:27] pundit. I'm not interested in doing it. [07:29] And you're all here to hear music. And [07:30] guess what? The entire audience goes [07:32] crazy for that statement. I I think Ed [07:34] Sheeran handled I might be the only [07:36] person saying this. I think Ed Sheeran [07:38] handled this very very well. And I I I [07:41] think that the main takeaway from the [07:44] this whole nontroversy, this whole [07:46] tempest in a teapot, which was mostly a [07:48] product of social media, is that the [07:51] vast majority of people are irritated [07:52] with the pro Palestine activists and the [07:54] pro-Israel activists for hijacking a a a [07:59] venue, a a medium that is totally [08:01] inappropriate for political commentary. [08:03] I'm I'm with Sharon. Good. Good on [08:04] Sharon. Okay. He had the the other [08:07] reason he had to say it actually has [08:09] nothing to do with the conflict. It's [08:11] just that he has to save face so he [08:12] doesn't look like he's being bullied by [08:14] either group of protesters. So it's it's [08:17] a face saving thing to say, "Hey, I'm [08:18] still in charge of my shows. I'm still [08:20] in charge of my concert tour." But he's [08:21] he is the most sympathetic figure of all [08:23] of the activists in this whole episode. [08:26] Now, speaking of international conflict, [08:28] some pretty big news after a year and a [08:29] half now of of lobbying for it. [08:31] President Trump has just gotten his deal [08:35] in Greenland. He has just kind of sort [08:38] of a little bit acquired Greenland for [08:40] the United States. President Trump [08:42] tweets out. He usually just posts on [08:43] True Social. This is a tweet. Breaking [08:45] news. I'm pleased to announce that the [08:47] United States of America has entered [08:48] into an agreement with the Kingdom of [08:50] Denmark and Greenland that gives the [08:52] United States permanent control over [08:54] security and all other needs in [08:55] Greenland, completely addressing all of [08:57] our many US concerns. There will be no [08:59] cost to the United States. Let's don't [09:00] forget Trump had offered to spend [09:01] gazillions of dollars acquiring [09:03] Greenland, making it, you know, the 51st [09:05] state or some kind of official [09:06] protectorate. But no, he says, "In my [09:08] direction, we worked with [09:09] representatives of Denmark and Greenland [09:11] to guarantee that the United States will [09:12] forever have the complete ability to do [09:14] what is necessary in Greenland in order [09:16] to secure and defend the security of [09:18] Greenland and the United States of [09:19] America." Now, the people who are [09:21] attacking Trump over this, their [09:23] argument is that the deal that he [09:25] supposedly got is no different from the [09:28] deal we already had going back to 1951 [09:31] that gave the US a lot of military [09:32] rights in Greenland. And that is not [09:34] true. Notice here the inclusion of [09:37] Denmark. There are many people who have [09:38] been hearing about this whole conflict [09:40] who don't even realize that Greenland is [09:43] owned by Denmark. [09:45] So, a lot of the conflict from the super [09:47] libs is is over supposed imperialism. [09:49] and say Trump is trying to bring back [09:51] imperialism and colonialism by taking [09:53] the sovereign nation of Greenland. Hey, [09:56] Greenland isn't sovereign. It isn't [09:58] really sovereign. Greenland is owned by [10:00] Denmark, by this tiny little country. [10:01] Why does Denmark own Greenland? So, that [10:04] objection was totally ridiculous. We [10:06] have to engage in negotiations with [10:08] Denmark. And what we got is different [10:10] than what we had. So the way that this [10:12] differs from the 1951 agreement is that [10:16] Greenland is now a direct party to the [10:18] treaty. Previously we were just dealing [10:21] with Denmark because Denmark owned [10:22] Greenland. But increasingly there has [10:24] been some movement for Greenland to have [10:26] independence from Denmark. So if the [10:28] United States is going to secure its [10:31] interests in Greenland and the Arctic [10:33] and fend off enemies like Russia and [10:35] China, we're going to have to include [10:36] Greenland more directly just as a hedge [10:39] against Greenland independence. A lot of [10:41] the commentary around Trump's uh pro [10:44] provocations in this issue have been [10:46] that we're alienating our our longtime [10:48] ally Denmark, but that's not totally the [10:51] issue. A bigger issue is that Greenland [10:52] might break away. We need to secure our [10:54] our interests here. So the 1951 pact [10:57] that we had with Denmark was uh was [11:01] sufficient for a long time for the cold [11:03] war. We built up a lot of military uh [11:05] bases and resources in Greenland during [11:07] the cold war. And then the cold war [11:09] ended. we began to pull some of our [11:11] military resources away. This new deal [11:14] is with Denmark and Greenland and it [11:16] will remain in effect even if Greenland [11:18] goes independent. The other thing the [11:21] deal says is that non-NATO countries [11:23] cannot establish bases or maintain [11:25] troops in Greenland without the direct [11:28] written approval of the United States. [11:29] The previous treaty did not have that. [11:32] Maybe it wasn't likely that Greenland [11:34] was going to invite the Russians or the [11:35] Chinese to come station some troops in [11:36] Greenland, but there was nothing [11:38] preventing them from doing that. This [11:39] treaty says no chance. Greenland [11:42] effectively belongs to the United [11:44] States. Next thing it includes the the [11:46] new treaty. Again, we haven't seen the [11:48] text of this, but this is the [11:49] announcement today and no one really [11:50] seems to be disputing it. The next part [11:52] of this is that US approval will be [11:54] required not just for foreign powers [11:56] bringing their military to Greenland, [11:57] but even for foreign powers bringing [11:59] their private companies to Greenland. [12:01] Any sensitive investments [12:03] must be approved by the United States. [12:06] Don't don't forget uh Greenland is rich [12:09] in in critical minerals, in mining, in [12:12] all sorts of other uh resources that are [12:15] relevant to security and also to private [12:17] industry. And China and Russia and other [12:19] enemies of the United States might not [12:22] might rather want to get their hands on [12:23] some of those. The 1951 agreement would [12:26] have let them do it. This new agreement [12:27] says no chance. You're not getting any [12:29] of that without American approval. even [12:32] more clearly making the case that [12:33] Greenland now technically belongs to [12:36] Denmark might become officially [12:38] independent but practically speaking [12:41] belongs to the United States. Even as a [12:43] matter of the military, we are now [12:45] treating Greenland as part of northern [12:47] command. We're treating Greenland as [12:48] part of uh as part of looking northward [12:53] toward the American interests rather [12:54] than looking toward Europe. Finally, and [12:57] this is where the rubber meets the road, [12:59] the US is going to rebuild the military [13:02] in Greenland. We are going to build up [13:03] our troops in Greenland. Now, according [13:06] to the 1951 treaty, we would have had [13:09] every right to do that. The thing is, [13:11] though, practically speaking, we would [13:12] have had to negotiate it because it [13:14] would have been a major change. For the [13:15] last 30 years, we've drawn down our [13:17] troops. We've drawn down our resources [13:18] in Greenland. We're gonna have to build [13:20] those back up because we are looking at [13:22] or potentially already in a cold war [13:25] with Russia and we're in a major proxy [13:27] sorry with China and we're in a major [13:28] proxy war with Russia. So the world is [13:31] getting hotter. We seem to be lurching [13:33] ever closer toward war. That would have [13:35] required some kind of negotiation. This [13:37] is the negotiation we got. People are [13:38] going to be going after Trump and [13:40] they're going to say, "Well, you told us [13:41] that you were going to officially [13:42] acquire Greenland. It was going to [13:44] become a state. It was going to become a [13:45] formal US protectorate. You didn't get [13:47] it. So, haha, you lost. The Danish won. [13:49] The the Greenlanders won. You got [13:52] nothing. Trump. This totally [13:54] misunderstands the way that Trump [13:56] negotiates. And I'm I I'm not just [13:57] trying to flack for the president here [13:59] or what. I'm I'm at least somewhat [14:01] critical of the president when I [14:02] disagree with his policies, but this is [14:04] just basic Trump 101. Scott Adams was [14:06] talking about this for years going back [14:07] 10 years. The way Trump negotiates is he [14:09] always talks past the sale. So if what [14:12] he wants is control over Greenland and [14:14] to build up our military and to keep [14:15] foreign powers out of the area, what [14:18] he's going to ask for is to is to make [14:20] Greenland part of New Jersey or [14:22] something. What he's going to ask for is [14:24] to become the direct governor of [14:25] Greenland or or to send Marco Rubio to [14:27] be the direct governor of Greenland and [14:29] to build 25 Trump Towers in Greenland. [14:31] He's going to ask for way more than he [14:32] actually wants and then when he comes [14:35] back a little bit, everybody can have a [14:37] win-win. It's it it's a big diplomatic [14:39] victory here for Trump because Trump has [14:41] irritated a lot of our partners. There's [14:43] no that criticism of Trump I think is [14:44] legitimate. But in the end here you have [14:48] the Europeans celebrating this, Macron [14:50] celebrating this, the Dane celebrating [14:51] this. Greenland celebrating this. [14:53] Greenland's a little more trepidacious I [14:55] think and America can celebrate. It's a [14:57] win. The people who are very upset about [14:59] this deal are China and Russia. And that [15:02] was the whole point of the campaign in [15:04] the first place. It was good stuff. [15:06] Every significant movement in history [15:07] started with protesting. [15:08] >> You're a traitor. [15:09] >> Uncle Tom. [15:10] >> This is our generation civil rights. I [15:12] >> have no idea what the protest is about. [15:14] >> Bingo. Given the current climate, should [15:16] a figure as polarizing as late Saunders [15:18] even be allowed on campus? [15:20] >> Uh, can you hear me? Okay. [15:21] >> Saunders is a close personal friend of [15:22] Chancellor Friedman. This is a decision [15:24] I can off. [15:25] >> Islam will conquer the West. [15:28] We're equal. [15:30] [music] [15:31] >> Are we paying attention? [15:34] >> They've taken over the building. They're [15:35] downstairs and they've blocked the [15:36] doors. [15:38] >> I seek forgiveness from Allah the [15:40] Almighty. [15:42] >> We cannot run and hide. [15:44] >> Muhammad is the messenger of God. [15:47] There is no God but Allah. [15:50] >> What do you say? We turn those so [15:54] into a fine red mist. [15:57] >> As we move, one man will cover while the [15:59] other guys go. They call that leapro. [16:04] You need a course in safe weapons [16:06] handling. [16:09] [screaming]
