[music] Who am I [00:07] going to see today? Who's my sister for [00:09] dog loving? Emily Demarais. [00:19] I'm so happy to see you. [00:21] Last time I saw you were on stage in New [00:22] York. And [00:28] I was I knew that I wanted to go hang [00:30] out with some puppies and I knew that I [00:31] wanted to hang out with you and we're [00:32] both dog lovers. Were you always a [01:10] dog person? [01:11] >> Yes, of course. I think I grew up all my [01:13] childhood until [01:16] 7 of October I grew with a dog. Yeah, [01:18] Chucha. Yeah, I had Chucha. I had Shiva [01:21] before. I had Taco. I had I had a lot of [01:24] dogs. [01:25] >> What do you love about dogs? [01:26] >> As they're much better than [01:28] >> [music] [01:28] >> human beings. They love me without [01:30] condition. They don't need something [01:32] from me. They just love me. [01:34] >> Yeah. [01:34] >> [music] [01:35] >> My mom always used to say, she always [01:36] wanted to have a dog. She said, "I know [01:38] for a fact that at least somebody going [01:40] to be happy to see me." [01:41] >> Yes, Danny. She have a dog. [01:44] >> Uh-huh. [01:45] >> She called Mayo like mayonnaise. She's [01:47] white. I told Danny many of times that I [01:50] think Mayo love me much much more than [01:52] she love me. [01:53] >> she feel about that? [01:54] >> Danny happy about it. [01:55] >> Oh, good. Very [music] supportive. [01:56] >> We have very good connection. [01:58] >> Me and my dog are the best. [01:59] >> She know that [music] I lost my Chucha. [02:02] She's like she's feeling it. [02:03] >> What happened? [02:05] >> So, I had Chucha for [02:07] 11 years. And she was the the best [02:10] [music] thing in my life. I didn't call [02:12] her my dog. I called her my daughter. [02:14] >> Mhm. [02:15] >> And in the 7th of October, while they [02:17] are breaking into my house, I remember [02:19] them like speaking about my dog just in [02:22] Arabic. I remember they said "Kalb, [02:24] kalb." After 2 seconds, I can hear [02:27] another [02:28] >> [music] [02:28] >> gunshot. [02:28] >> They shot her? [02:29] >> Yeah. [02:30] >> And then you found out that they really [02:31] have an issue with dogs. [02:33] >> Yeah. Like I remember me and Romi [02:35] sitting in one of the houses in [02:37] captivity while [music] we speaking with [02:39] the terrorist about dogs and how we love [02:41] them and how much we love them and that [02:44] I have one and said "What? You love [02:46] them? They are very disgusting and they [02:48] are stinky and we don't like them in [02:50] Gaza. And sometimes we going out in the [02:52] two operations and we just murdering [02:54] dogs sometime with a gun." [02:56] >> Oh. [02:56] >> It's insane. [02:57] >> [music] [02:57] >> We ask them "How can you do it? How can [03:00] you like just look at them and shot [03:02] them?" And they say "Without any [03:04] problem." Like they come to the dog bam, [03:07] bam, bam. [03:08] >> Oh, no. [03:09] >> [music] [03:09] >> And it's insane. But like you said, [03:11] you're not surprised from those [03:13] monsters. So. [03:14] >> Are you thinking of getting a new dog? I [03:16] know you and Danny have a dog together, [03:17] but are you thinking of maybe having [03:19] another one? [03:19] >> Actually, yes. [03:21] >> Yeah? [03:21] >> Yeah. [music] Mayo, she's already 10 [03:23] years old. I'm hoping she's going to [03:25] live like for another [music] 10. But [03:28] definitely [03:29] >> A new one? [03:30] >> Yeah. Look at the puppies, [music] you [03:31] know. [03:32] >> such thing as a house without a dog. [03:33] It's just not a possibility. [03:34] >> I agree. [03:35] >> Not a possibility. For National Dog Day, Noa Tishby met up with former hostage Emily Damari at SOS Pets in Israel to play with rescue puppies and talk about what dogs mean to both of them.
Emily grew up with dogs her whole life. She had Choocha for 11 years, and she says she never called her a dog, she called her her daughter. On October 7, Hamas terrorists shot Choocha in Emily's home before abducting Emily to Gaza. In captivity, Emily and Romi Gonen talked with their captors about dogs and heard what those men thought of them.
Today Emily shares a dog named Mayo with Dani, and as she puts it, a house without a dog just isn't a possibility.
