Transcript [00:00] Israel's Prime Minister BB Netanyao is [00:02] in hot water. Over the past few years, [00:04] BB has been in a nearly constant state [00:07] of warfare, not only with basically half [00:09] of the Middle East, but also with huge [00:11] swaths of the Israeli government, media, [00:14] and legal system. New very serious [00:16] allegations are surfacing that BB in [00:18] fact knew about the October 7th attack [00:21] from Hamas in advance and failed to stop [00:25] it. Is this true or is there more going [00:28] on behind the scenes than what the media [00:30] is telling you? As election season is [00:34] gearing up in Israel, BB is taking more [00:37] and more heat about October 7th. In a [00:40] recent speech, Year Leed said, quote, [00:42] "Three weeks before the massacre, I [00:44] warned the prime minister at a press [00:45] conference that this is what was going [00:48] to happen. The Egyptians say they warned [00:50] us. the chief of staff, the head of the [00:52] Sheenbet, the head of the military [00:53] intelligence, all of them warned him. He [00:57] also added that if BB had acted on the [00:59] warnings, the massacre would have been [01:01] presented. This comes on the heels of a [01:04] report from the left-leaning Israeli [01:06] paper claiming that the UAE also warned [01:10] BB that kamas was planning a major [01:12] operation against Israel. This warning [01:15] reportedly came during a 45minute [01:17] conversation held between the two [01:19] leaders just 10 days leading up to [01:21] October 7th. The UAE was passing on the [01:25] warning because they were concerned [01:26] about a kamas attack that could cause [01:28] significant bloodshed, destabilize the [01:31] region, and undermine the Abraham [01:33] Accords. Uh the report goes on to claim [01:35] that BB failed to mention this warning [01:37] from the UAE to any heads of the [01:39] security establishments in Israel with [01:41] the heads of both the Sheenbet and the [01:42] IDF confirming this. And this wasn't [01:45] all. The report also claimed that [01:47] supposedly Egypt passed on their own [01:50] warning to BB as well. They say that [01:53] somewhere in that two-week period [01:54] leading up to the attack, Egyptian [01:56] intelligence contacted BB directly, [01:59] warning of something unusual, a [02:00] terrifying operation being planned by [02:02] kamas. Again, according to the report, [02:05] BB did not pass on these warnings to [02:08] security officials. To take a step back [02:11] here, it's hard to know if this report [02:13] is accurate. Haritz, like I said [02:15] earlier, is a very left-wing publication [02:17] and historically doesn't have the best [02:19] track record with the accuracy of their [02:22] incriminating evidence of BB's [02:24] wrongdoings, especially around election [02:26] season. But there is a lot of aggregate [02:29] here. A lot of security officials, [02:31] politicians, foreign governments are [02:33] pointing a clear finger of blame, [02:35] insinuating that BB knew about the [02:38] attack in advance and failed to stop it. [02:40] And it's hard to imagine that this isn't [02:42] justified, at least on some level. There [02:45] was a massive failure from the top down [02:47] in Israel to read the intelligence [02:48] leading up to October 7th. That much is [02:50] clear. And also a massive failure to [02:53] prepare for this attack. In response to [02:56] the allegations though, this last [02:57] Wednesday, BB said that he had [02:59] instructed his lawyers to file a [03:01] defamation lawsuit against Haritz and [03:04] other newspapers who had been pushing [03:06] this story. He said that in reviews by [03:08] the prime minister's office, no record [03:10] of a conversation between him and the UA [03:13] president exists in those dates leading [03:15] up to October 7th. And supposedly he has [03:18] the evidence to prove it. Now, there's a [03:20] lot more going on here behind the scenes [03:22] than what you might think or what the [03:24] media is reporting on, and we'll get [03:25] into that here in a second. But first, [03:27] on October 4th, Jewish communities all [03:30] across Israel are going to open their [03:32] Bibles back to Genesis 1 and start the [03:35] whole Bible reading cycle over again. So, all of this [04:24] conversation about what BBE knew before [04:27] October 7th begs the question, why are [04:30] so many Israelis in positions of power [04:32] pointing fingers at BB? And are these [04:34] allegations true? Just in the past few [04:37] years, BB has been facing court case [04:39] after court case alleging different [04:41] forms of corruption. In one case, BB is [04:44] accused of receiving illicit luxury [04:46] gifts from wealthy businessmen in [04:48] exchange for political favors. And by [04:50] gifts, I mean mostly expensive cigars [04:53] and champagne. In another case, BB is [04:55] accused of negotiating a deal with major [04:58] is a a major Israeli paper to exchange [05:00] favorable media coverage in return for a [05:03] legislation that would restrict a [05:05] competing media outlet. In a third case, [05:08] BB is accused of granting regulatory [05:10] benefits worth hundreds of millions of [05:12] dollars to a telecommunications company [05:14] in exchange for yet again positive [05:17] coverage. But even though BB and his [05:19] legal team have spent hundreds of hours [05:21] in court over the past few years, still [05:24] to date, nothing has been determined on [05:26] these cases. It's kind of crazy that [05:28] Israel has been fighting a multifront [05:30] war over the last couple of years with [05:32] the prime minister spending a [05:33] significant portion of his time sitting [05:35] in a courtroom. And then there's the [05:38] long string of ever growing neverbe [05:40] opponents in Israel's politics. people [05:43] who used to be in BB's party or work [05:45] alongside of him who now want nothing to [05:48] do with him. And in more recent days, [05:50] there are stories like this one uh that [05:52] we discussed from Haritz claiming BB [05:54] knew about October 7th in advance. Also, [05:57] there's the woman that BB had an affair [05:59] with. He admitted to it back in 1993 [06:02] just now doing a public interview [06:05] bashing BB as basically a power- hungry [06:07] leader obsessed with himself behind [06:09] closed doors. as if her experience with [06:11] BB over 30 years ago has any direct [06:14] bearing on who he is today. So with all [06:17] of that in mind, here's what's actually [06:19] going on behind the scenes. BBE came to [06:22] power in the 1990s. He inherited an [06:25] economically weak, largely socialist [06:27] country with an overly bureaucratic, [06:29] poorly functioning government. In his [06:32] decades of time leading the country, BB [06:34] has transformed Israel into a much more [06:37] capitalistic nation. uh huge swaths of [06:39] the nation have been privatized, opening [06:42] up the door for a lot of economic [06:44] growth. BB has also transformed Israel [06:47] from having a mediocre military to being [06:49] a projection of force feared by Israel's [06:52] enemies. He has also fostered a lot of [06:54] conservative values and facilitated the [06:56] rebuilding of communities in Judea in [06:59] Samaria. But decades in power, taking [07:02] bold action doesn't come without cost. [07:05] One at a time, for reasons real or [07:07] imagined, BB has offended, stood up to [07:10] or alienated huge swasts of Israel's [07:12] leadership, both right and left, and [07:15] probably committed his own sins along [07:17] the way. It's hard to imagine anyone can [07:20] maintain power in a country for over 30 [07:22] years and not be guilty of some level of [07:24] corruption along the way, although a lot [07:26] of the corruption charges still have yet [07:28] to be proven. So, what we're watching is [07:32] this. BB is getting older and it's [07:34] pretty clear that his time leading [07:36] Israel is coming to an end probably [07:38] sometime in the next couple of years and [07:40] many in Israel are taking advantage of [07:42] this prospect to accomplish two things. [07:45] One, blame their own shortcomings on BB [07:48] so that they can leave them in the past [07:49] like many of the military and [07:51] intelligence leaders pinning their [07:52] October 7th failures on him. He can take [07:55] the blame and retire and they can [07:57] continue their careers. The other thing [08:00] they're hoping to accomplish is to [08:01] become the successor, to take his place [08:03] as Israel's definitive leader. So, with [08:07] all of that in mind, next time you hear [08:09] an accusation like Hard is making [08:10] against BB, I would encourage you to [08:12] take it with a massive grain of salt. [08:15] Just about every single person in [08:17] Israeli politics and huge swasts of the [08:19] media and leaders of countries around [08:21] Israel have every incentive to lie when [08:23] it comes to BB currently about [08:25] corruption, past mistakes, and October [08:28] 7th. This is a power struggle, plain and [08:30] simple. There's little doubt that BB has [08:32] done an enormous amount of good for the [08:34] country over the past couple of decades. [08:36] There's also little doubt that he has [08:37] overseen some massive failures. But [08:40] regardless, his time is coming to an [08:42] end, and someone must take his place.
