Coming [00:17] up on Jewish Voice. [00:24] Shalom and welcome to Jewish Voice, [00:26] where we uncover the beauty and depth of [00:28] the Jewish faith and its fulfillment in [00:32] Yeshua, Jesus the Messiah. I'm Rabbi [00:35] Jonathan Bernest, and I'm joined today [00:37] by my dear friend and co-host, Scott [00:39] Vul. I'm so happy to be here, Jonathan. [00:42] It's uh Yom Kapor week. It's a sacred [00:46] time of repentance, reflection, and [00:49] forgiveness. Together, we'll explore its [00:52] biblical roots and ancient traditions, [00:55] and you'll discover what Yom Kapor means [00:58] for us as believers today. And this is [01:01] really the holiest time of the year. [01:04] >> This is the big day, [01:06] the day of atonement. It's the holiest [01:09] day of the of the Hebrew calendar. [01:11] >> Yeah. Yeah. I remember Yom Kapor being [01:13] the day when we would go to our [01:16] grandparents in Brooklyn and we were [01:18] dressed to the hilt. It was there was a [01:21] lot we did that day, but going to [01:22] synagogue is forever etched in my [01:25] memory. And every Jew uh even nominal [01:29] religious Jews, you know, you don't have [01:31] to be Orthodox for this day to have an [01:34] incredible meaning. [01:35] >> You don't even have to be a a believer [01:37] in God for this, but this is the one you [01:39] go to. Yeah. Along with Rashashana, but [01:42] this is the big one. In our temple [01:44] growing up, we would have 30 people on a [01:48] air of Shabbat, like a Friday night [01:50] service. [01:51] >> Yeah. [01:51] >> We'd have maybe 40 people on a Saturday [01:54] morning or afternoon service, but on Yum [01:57] Kapor, we would have 3,000. Wow. [01:59] >> 3,000. From 30 to 3,000. I would say [02:02] this would be equivalent to uh in in [02:06] Christianity to Christmas Eve. [02:08] >> Yeah. [02:08] >> Or something, right? Christmas or [02:10] Easter. Or Easter Sunday. [02:12] >> Yeah. And and [clears throat] it's [02:13] >> this is the big the big this is where [02:15] everyone goes. [02:16] >> And it's remarkable as you say that you [02:17] don't even necessarily even need to be a [02:19] believer in God. There's something [02:21] etched in our DNA [02:23] >> that makes this day it it transcends [02:26] every other. [02:27] >> Yeah. We're reconciling with God if [02:28] there is one, right? But if you're a [02:31] good Jew, you go to to synagogue, you go [02:33] to temple on [02:35] >> Yom Kapor. Yeah. [02:36] >> If nothing else, you go on Yum Kapor. [02:39] Let's let's look at the biblical uh the [02:44] biblical command of Yom Kapor. Now, [02:47] there's a few places. Leviticus 16, [02:49] which is quite long. You can go and read [02:51] that on your own, and I encourage you to [02:53] do that, but we're going to look at [02:54] Leviticus 23 26- 28. And we're putting [03:00] that on the screen now to for you to [03:02] follow along. This is Leviticus 23 is [03:05] the cycle of the of the holidays through [03:07] the year. And these verses 26 to 28 [03:11] specifically talk about Yom Kapore, the [03:14] day of atonement. The Lord said to [03:16] Moses, the 10th day of this seventh [03:19] month is the day of atonement. So this [03:22] is 10 days after uh Rashashana. The 10 [03:26] days of awe now have come about. Uh [03:29] we've been uh introspective for this [03:32] day. The 10th day of the seventh month [03:34] is the day of atonement. hold a sacred [03:37] assembly and deny yourselves and present [03:40] a food offering to the Lord. Do not do [03:44] any work on that day because it is the [03:46] day of atonement when atonement is made [03:49] for you before the Lord your God. [03:54] >> So that's very very clear. [03:55] >> Very clear [03:56] >> but but not as clear as people may think [03:59] because it says afflict your soul, [04:00] >> right? [04:01] >> So how do you afflict your soul? [04:02] >> Yeah. I think the version you read was [04:04] deny yourself, right? [04:05] >> Deny yourself, deflict your soul. So I [04:08] think most people throughout history [04:10] have always taken that to be fast. Deny [04:13] deny your flesh or or maybe that's one [04:16] aspect of it certainly for because [04:18] Jewish people, isn't it like a 25-hour [04:21] period where you [04:22] >> 25 hours and that certainly I think is a [04:24] a good way to express denying yourself [04:28] or afflicting your yourself [04:30] >> to go without without eating. And in [04:32] most cases without drinking. Yeah. [04:34] >> Yeah. That is a typical we fast to [04:37] afflict our souls to deny ourselves. [04:39] >> Yeah. Yeah. And so also Aaron was [04:42] instructed on how to enter the holy of [04:43] holies, right? For the blood sacrifice. [04:47] I think the whole idea of afflicting our [04:50] souls and denying our flesh is going to [04:53] put us into a position [04:56] of really being in tune with the Lord. [04:59] Because I think when we fill our flesh, [05:01] when we satisfy our own selves, we're [05:04] really not in a position to need or want [05:07] anything. And sometimes I think think [05:09] thinking of even Aaron entering into the [05:12] Holy of Holies, if they did not if they [05:15] were not set up as priests who had been [05:18] really introspective of their own lives, [05:21] they wouldn't have lived because they [05:22] were going into the very place where God [05:24] dwells. And didn't they like tie a rope? [05:27] Was it right? We'll get we'll get to [05:29] that. But there's three things really [05:31] that come out in this verse. Number one, [05:33] don't work. [05:34] >> Don't work. [05:35] >> Okay, that's important. Don't work. [05:37] Gather together and don't work. [05:38] >> Okay. [05:39] >> To afflict yourself or deny yourself, [05:42] which [05:43] >> uh I think was was expressed in two ways [05:46] in ancient times. One fasting as we do [05:48] today. The other was the way that they [05:50] dressed maybe in sackcloth and ashes. [05:53] Maybe they tore their clo whatever. So [05:55] it's deny yourself. And the third one is [05:57] the atonement. This is the most [05:59] important thing that this is the day of [06:02] atonement. And we're told that this [06:05] would be the day of the year when [06:08] atonement would be made for you. Now, [06:12] the Torah goes further in explaining how [06:15] this is done. That Aaron, the high [06:16] priest, was instructed to enter the holy [06:20] of holies. You have the the the uh [06:23] Mishkan or tabernacle in the wilderness [06:25] that has a an outer court, an inner [06:27] court, and the holy of holies where the [06:29] presence of God, the sheha, the glory of [06:32] God dwelt. And then the temple was built [06:34] after the same fashion, [06:36] >> the outer court, the inner court and the [06:38] holy of holies. It was the same model. [06:41] >> The temple was built on the layout of [06:43] the tabernacle. Yeah. And so this would [06:45] be the one time a year where the high [06:46] priest, beginning with Aaron and then [06:49] later his sons. There was some hiccups [06:50] there. We're not going to go down that [06:52] road. [06:53] >> But the role of the high priest in [06:54] ancient Israel was to atone for the sins [06:58] of the people. And this was the one time [06:59] a year [07:00] >> that with great fear and trepidation [07:03] with they have to follow every detail uh [07:07] without missing anything. [07:09] >> Yeah. [07:09] >> And and they probably had a number of [07:11] checklists that because this was do or [07:13] die. Yeah. [07:14] >> And they would bring the atonement, the [07:16] blood, uh, on behalf of the people and [07:20] pour it over the the horns of the altar. [07:23] And this would bring atonement annually [07:25] for the sins of the people. Not all the [07:26] sins. [07:27] >> I don't want to go too far down. It's a [07:29] little bit complicated. But that the the [07:31] unknowing sins. In other words, [07:33] >> these were the sins of omission uh [07:36] rather than uh intentional sins. They [07:39] were unintentional, but because the [07:41] intentional sins required in some cases [07:44] their own death, like if it was murder, [07:46] if it was adultery, those weren't [07:48] forgiven on the day of atonement, but it [07:50] was a forgiveness for the people of [07:53] Israel as a whole for unintentional sin. [07:55] And that was the role of the high [07:57] priest. Wow. [07:58] >> And of course, we know that Jesus, our [07:59] high priest, has fulfilled that in [08:02] detail, which we'll talk about as we [08:04] move along here. [08:05] >> Yeah. There there's even a bit of [08:06] trepidation in my mind thinking about [08:09] that high priestly role and entering in [08:13] to the presence of God. That's not [08:14] something that we can take cheaply. It's [08:17] not something that we can do flippantly. [08:20] These guys were priests and they were [08:22] called to live separated. Thank God for [08:25] priests and thank God for the ultimate [08:27] high priest. Well, go let's go back to [08:28] the the the the tying what you were [08:30] saying earlier about the tying of a of a [08:32] rope [08:33] >> or chain or something on on the ankle of [08:36] the high priest and a bell [08:38] >> that they that would ring as they were [08:40] making atonement. [08:41] >> That was because this was a dangerous a [08:44] dangerous pursuit. [08:45] >> They were going into the Holy of Holies. [08:48] The only one that could do that with the [08:50] high priest and the only way that he [08:52] survived was following every rule and [08:54] being cleansed himself. Yeah. Before he [08:56] went into the presence of God. We pray [08:58] for the presence of God all the time. We [09:01] want your presence, but do we really [09:02] want the presence of God uh in the [09:05] dimension that the high priest [09:07] experienced? No, we don't. Yeah. [09:09] >> And so they had a rope to pull him out. [09:11] >> They had pull him out dead and the [09:14] ringing of the bell to make sure that he [09:16] he was still alive. [09:17] >> Hey. Hey, we've got more to talk about [09:19] with Yom Kapoor, but uh we need to take [09:22] a short break, but when we come back, [09:24] we're going to tell you how Yeshua, the [09:26] lamb of God, factors into this ancient [09:28] season of forgiveness and [09:30] reconciliation. Yom Kapor takes on a [09:33] whole new meaning when you come to faith [09:35] in Jesus. And listen, this is a an [09:38] observance that is very applicable to [09:41] you. You may say, "Well, I'm a [09:42] Christian. Those Jewish things aren't [09:44] for me." But these are types and shadows [09:47] of things that were to come that we [09:50] experience as followers of Jesus. So, [09:52] you really don't want to miss this. [12:00] This is not just a a talis, a prayer [12:03] shaw, but this is a handmade, [12:06] hand loomed, hand embroidered prayer [12:09] shaw made by believers in Ethiopia. Wow. [12:14] >> That have come to faith through your [12:18] partnership. In other words, these were [12:21] Ethiopian Jews that had never heard the [12:24] gospel before. And over a 20-year period [12:26] through the part your partnership with [12:28] many of you that have been around with [12:30] us for a long time uh they came to faith [12:32] they built congregations and we provided [12:35] looms with your support and we we uh [12:38] they began to create their own prayer [12:41] shaws. You'll have the prayer shaw as a [12:43] reminder. This beautiful prayer shaw [12:45] which really connects well yes [12:46] >> to yum kapor a prayer you can put it on [12:50] when you pray at home and this will [12:53] remind you as a monthly supporter that [12:55] you'll helping Ethiopians that are that [12:58] are looming these by hand to provide [13:01] income to support their own people and [13:04] support the gospel and we're helping [13:06] them to do that. So I really encourage [13:08] you to become a shalom monthly partner. [13:10] Beautiful. [13:11] >> Now, Scott, let's turn to the New [13:14] Testament understanding of Yom Kapor [13:17] because this is huge. Yeah. And and [13:19] really the gospel is based on the [13:22] reality of the high priest making [13:24] atonement for us. [13:25] >> Yeah. The the remarkable thing about Yom [13:27] Kapor is that you needed a high priest [13:30] and you needed a lamb. [laughter] [13:32] It's kind of crazy when you look in the [13:36] the New Covenant and the scriptures. [13:38] Jesus was not only the high priest, he [13:40] was also the one who was sacrificed, [13:42] which is remarkable for us because as we [13:45] talked about Yom Kapor being the holiest [13:48] day of the year because that's when our [13:49] sins are forgiven. Fast forward however [13:52] many generations to when Jesus comes as [13:57] the new great high priest and presents [14:00] himself as the lamb of God who takes [14:02] away the sins of the world. It's really [14:04] really remarkable to me. Scott, you [14:06] can't understand the atonement of the [14:09] Messiah. He's the high priest. Yeah. [14:11] >> Right. After the order of Melkisedc, [14:13] that's a type and shadow. MelkiseDC is a [14:15] type and shadow of the Messiah. Melik [14:18] Zedc. Yeah. MelkiseDC is Melchedc, [14:21] >> the the king of righteousness. Yeah, [14:24] >> that is a picture of Jesus. Actually, [14:26] probably the pre-incarnate Jesus. [14:28] >> It it's wild. Yeah. So you have the the [14:30] high priest and then you have the lamb [14:32] which makes no sense until you [14:35] understand both the Passover and the [14:37] sacrifice for Yom Kapor the the the two [14:41] scapegoats right the lamb of God Jesus [14:44] fulfills both and then you you have the [14:47] act of the high priest going in and [14:49] making atonement the blood sacrifice [14:52] >> what what does the blood sacrifice mean [14:56] without the Torah [14:57] >> it's amazing right [14:59] It's the sacrificial system through the [15:01] high priest through the the sacrificial [15:03] system that you can understand Jesus the [15:06] lamb of God who takes away the sins of [15:08] the world [15:08] >> that goes into the holy holy of holies [15:10] and offers his own blood as atonement [15:13] without the shedding of blood there is [15:15] no forgiveness that doesn't come from [15:18] the new testament that comes from [15:20] Leviticus 17 verse 11ing [15:23] >> and that sets up the the the [15:25] significance of Jesus having to die for [15:28] our sins. [15:28] >> Yeah. [15:29] >> Also, you can't understand the book of [15:31] Hebrews without understanding the idea [15:33] of Yom Kapor in the Torah. [15:35] >> It's amazing. [15:36] >> And I like to say this, Scott, that the [15:38] Torah, first of all, this is the word of [15:40] God. And many times you see the New [15:43] Testament well read and the pages of the [15:46] Old are still together. They haven't [15:48] even been separated, [15:49] >> right? Uh, but we like to say in [15:51] Messianic Judaism, and I think this is a [15:53] really good one for you to write down, [15:55] that we believe that in a Torah [15:58] foundational scriptures that the Torah [16:01] is the is the foundation for the [16:04] prophets, for the writings, the old Old [16:06] Testament, and then the foundation for [16:08] the New Testament. [16:09] >> And it was the Torah that laid out the [16:12] uh the criteria for the Messiah. And [16:15] it's the prophets that lay out all the [16:18] details of the Messiah, including where [16:21] he would be born, when he would be born, [16:24] what he would do, uh, when he came, that [16:26] he would lay down his life. Isaiah 53, [16:29] the Torah and the prophets are [16:30] foundational for the New Testament. It's [16:33] >> amazing. And I think Yom Kapor is such a [16:35] great example. [16:36] >> Such a great example. And something kind [16:37] of amazing happened. Yeshua predicted uh [16:41] the destruction of the temple, but when [16:43] was it? 70 AD 70 years after Yeshua [16:47] >> uh the temple was destroyed [16:49] therefore eliminating the ability [16:53] even for there to be any natural way for [16:57] sins to be forgiven. So many people will [16:59] ask today, you know, as a Jewish person, [17:02] Yom Kapoor was that was the day of [17:03] atonement, but what's being sacrificed [17:05] now? And it's like a life sacrifice. [17:08] There's no sacrifice. There's no [17:09] sacrifice [17:10] >> because the ultimate sacrifice [17:12] >> gave himself as the lamb of God. It's [17:16] absolutely remarkable and stunning and [17:19] something that we really need to grab a [17:20] hold of and really be praying that even [17:22] during this season of Yom Kapor that the [17:24] eyes of our people would be opened that [17:26] the ultimate sacrifice was made Yeshua [17:28] himself as the lamb of God. [17:30] >> The only time of the year that the [17:31] Jewish people reflect on the book of [17:33] life. Wow. [17:34] >> Am I in the book of life? And it's a [17:37] question for for you today. Are you [17:39] written in the lamb's book of life? If [17:42] the answer is no, then I have good news [17:46] for you. It's the gospel. [17:47] >> Amen. [17:48] >> That's the good news that Jesus died for [17:50] you. He rose again for you. He He He is [17:53] at the right hand of the father making [17:55] intercession for you. And all you need [17:57] to do according to scripture is call [17:59] upon the name of the Lord and you shall [18:03] be saved. [18:04] >> Amen. And and I want to implore you if [18:06] you are a believer, pray for the [18:07] salvation and of your Jewish friend, of [18:10] your Jewish neighbor, of your Jewish [18:12] coworker, and reach out to them with the [18:14] good news of their Messiah. Be tactful, [18:16] be prayerful. We'll help you to do that. [18:18] That's why we're here as a ministry. We [18:20] have resources that we want to get into [18:22] your hands. This is a season of [18:24] repentance, of change, and of prayer. I [18:28] want to urge you to really enter the [18:31] season of Yom Kapor that we're entering [18:33] into now and really make it uh uh [18:36] something that changes your life. When [18:38] we come back, I want to introduce you to [18:39] Alexander. He went from addiction to [18:41] homelessness to finding faith in Jesus [18:44] and living a life of service to others. [18:47] He's truly a story of remarkable change. [18:50] It was miraculous and it was made [18:52] possible by people like you. We'll be [18:55] right back. [18:58] When you give to Jewish Voice, you [19:00] change people's lives. God bless you. As [19:02] a homeless teenager in Israel, Miriam [19:05] considered ending her pregnancy. Then [19:07] she found the compassion and faith-based [19:10] support she so desperately needed. [19:13] Today, she has a beautiful family [19:15] [music] and works at the crisis [19:17] pregnancy center that once helped her. [19:18] >> Through this organization, [19:21] I felt worthy again. And now [music] I [19:24] get to change people life. Your [19:26] generosity saves children's lives and [19:29] provides medical care to tens of [19:30] thousands of people in need across [19:32] Africa. When you give today, we'll send [19:35] you resources that will strengthen your [19:37] faith and remind you that you are [19:40] changing [music] lives. For your [19:42] one-time gift of $40 or more, we'll send [19:45] you the fall feasts [music] and [19:46] Hanukkah, a book revealing how God's [19:48] appointed times connect the old and new [19:50] covenants and point to Yeshua. You'll [19:53] also receive appointments with God, a [19:56] devotional guide to help you experience [19:58] the biblical feasts in a personal way. [20:01] Or for your monthly gift of $40 or more, [20:04] you'll receive both books plus a [20:07] beautiful handwoven toite. Made by beta [20:09] Israel artisans in Ethiopia, this [20:12] traditional Jewish prayer shaw is a [20:14] meaningful connection to the very [20:15] communities Jewish voice serves. And [20:18] today, we have a very special offer. [20:21] We'd like to [music] send you Rabbi [20:22] Jonathan Bernest's 3D DVD collection [20:25] exploring Rash Hashana, Yam Kapour, [20:27] [music] and Sakote absolutely free. It's [20:30] a $60 value. Anything you choose to give [20:33] will be a huge [music] blessing to those [20:35] in need. If you give to Jewish Voice, [20:38] you help Shaba celebrate her 100th [20:41] birthday, and you [music] support [20:43] centers where she and other Holocaust [20:45] survivors find fellowship and hope. [20:48] Thank God the United States gives [20:49] [music] support for the center through [20:51] donations. [20:52] >> And you provide LifeStraw units that [20:54] turn polluted river water into clean [20:56] drinking water. [20:59] >> Everyone drank straight from the dirty [21:01] river. My children got diarrhea from the [21:04] water. I just want to [music] say thank [21:06] you. I pray God will bless everyone who [21:08] blessed us. [21:09] >> If you're not a partner yet, please [21:11] don't wait. Call or go online to give [21:14] and you can start changing lives today. [21:17] I want to talk about what we're offering [21:19] today. Something we haven't on the [21:20] program in a very long time. These are [21:22] not just prayer shaws. The talis uh [21:24] which is so appropriate for yom kapor [21:27] which is a time of prayer and [21:29] intercession but these talises are made [21:31] by Ethiopian believers in Jesus that [21:35] have come to faith in large number [21:37] through your partnership. Through this [21:40] ministry and your support, we've been [21:42] able to lead thousands of Ethiopian Jews [21:46] to Jesus. And now they're serving their [21:48] community by knitting these talises. [21:51] They do it by hand. It's all hand [21:53] embroidered. And we have a limited [21:54] number that we want to make available to [21:56] you. We just have a very few number. But [21:59] if you become a monthly shalom partner, [22:01] we'll get one of these out to you and it [22:03] will be a reminder. You can wear this as [22:05] you pray. That's what it's for. It's a [22:07] prayer shawl and you'll be reminded of [22:09] these Ethiopian Jews that are alive and [22:12] serving God today because of your [22:14] support. Now, I want to show you a side [22:16] of Israel you may never have seen [22:18] before. Our field reporter Daniel Rainey [22:21] went to bait Hay Yeshua, one of our [22:24] partner ministries, and met an [22:26] incredible Messianic believer named [22:29] Alexander. He's an overcomer. He's an [22:32] inspiration and he's walking with the [22:34] Lord and changing the lives of others. [22:36] >> [music] [22:36] >> Take a look. [22:40] >> I didn't know until [music] [22:42] today that there were parts of the Holy [22:44] Land where people's lives are so hard. [22:48] This is a rough neighborhood. People [22:51] have come here from Russia, from [22:53] Ukraine, from other many other countries [22:56] with dreams of a better life. But what [23:01] happens to those dreams? [23:03] >> When families come here, everything is [23:04] hard at first. Parents are trying to [23:06] survive working constantly and the [23:08] children get left completely alone. And [23:11] that's when many of them drift into [23:12] trouble. Drugs, prostitution, [music] [23:15] dropping out of school. People lose [23:17] their path. Then you see the [23:19] consequences of that out here on the [23:22] streets. I know because I lived it. I [23:25] grew up without supervision. I was left [23:28] to myself on the street. I used drugs [23:31] for years and it wrecked me from the [23:33] inside out. my body, my mind, my sense [23:37] of right and wrong. [23:39] >> Alexander took me through the streets [23:41] and alleyways of Tel Aviv, showing me [23:43] the places he used to stay. At the [23:45] parks, families don't gather [music] and [23:48] children don't play. Evidence of drug [23:50] addiction and homelessness surround many [23:52] parks here. [23:54] >> When you were homeless, did you stay in [23:56] parks like this or maybe even this park? [23:59] >> I did. People live like this everywhere. [24:02] Right here in this [music] neighborhood, [24:04] in abandoned buildings, at the bus [24:06] station, down in basement. When I was a [24:09] little boy, just 11 [music] years old, [24:11] cardboard was my mattress. Sometimes [24:14] you'd find a mattress. Most times [24:16] nothing [music] but cardboard. That was [24:18] our life. That's how we lived. These are [24:22] harsh places. But I came to the [music] [24:24] Lord from the street. God reaches people [24:28] even here. [24:29] >> Addiction doesn't just steal time. It [24:32] steals work, relationships, stability, [24:35] and dignity. It becomes a cycle that is [24:39] [music] almost impossible to break [24:40] alone. Outreach means meeting [music] [24:43] people where they are. Meeting people [24:46] before they trust anyone and before they [24:48] [music] believe change is even possible. [24:51] Outreach isn't waiting for someone to [24:52] walk into a church. It's stepping into [24:55] places where people are [music] simply [24:57] trying to survive. [24:59] I used drugs for 17 years and lived [25:02] [music] on the street for 11 of those [25:04] years. Anyone who has lived it knows [25:06] these are [music] terrible years. When [25:08] you freeze in the rain and when the [25:11] scorching sun of Israel burns you. And [25:14] in this madness, [25:16] you're looking for your next dose [25:16] [music] of drugs. I had no strength to [25:19] work. I was always looking for [25:21] something, stealing so I could get more [25:23] drugs. [music] I was in and out of [25:25] prison. And I just realized that I [25:27] couldn't go on like this anymore. [25:29] >> For Alexander, change didn't start with [25:32] a speech. It started with a door [25:34] opening. People willing to help, a place [25:37] to be [music] safe, and a path that [25:39] included faith, fellowship, and daily [25:42] support. That place was Bha Yeshua, one [25:46] of more than 90 ministries in [music] [25:48] Israel supported by Jewish Voice donors. [25:51] >> I met people who believed in Yeshua, [25:53] Jesus. As I said, I don't know why, but [25:56] something is calling me to you. [25:58] Eventually, I simply said, "Let's go [26:00] home." Thanks to your generosity, [26:03] Alexander went through rehab, stayed in [26:05] progressively independent group homes [26:07] that you support, and eventually became [26:10] a leader in them. Today, Alexander isn't [26:13] just [music] surviving. He's building a [26:15] life that once felt impossible. He has a [26:18] home, a wife, children, and he's [music] [26:21] giving back. He does construction for a [26:24] living and in his spare time serves [26:26] others coming out of addiction. He [26:28] volunteers in the same outreach that [26:30] once helped him. He returns to these [26:33] streets with [music] empathy and [26:34] patience as a living testimony to what [26:37] Yeshua, Jesus, the Messiah, can do for [26:40] people who feel lost and abandoned. The [26:44] man who once slept on cardboard now [26:46] helps [music] others find solid ground. [26:50] >> I truly have a great life. I love my [26:52] family and I feel at peace with what I [26:54] do for the Lord and with how I live in a [26:56] way that fulfills his will. [27:00] >> Programs like this don't just offer a [27:02] bed for the night. They offer people who [27:04] [music] are suffering a real chance to [27:06] rebuild. To everyone who supports Jewish [27:10] Voice, thank you for making this all [27:12] possible and for bringing hope just as [27:16] Jesus would to those who need it most. [27:20] That is amazing. [27:21] >> You know, Daniel, our field reporter, [27:23] said he didn't realize places like this [27:25] existed in Israel. [27:27] >> So many of us think of Israel as the [27:29] promised land, but really there's such [27:32] abject poverty there. There's [27:34] drugaddicted people. There's [27:36] prostitution. There are so many people [27:39] in need. And the blessing, Jonathan, [27:42] that is so amazing is that we at Jewish [27:44] Voice have an opportunity to really see [27:46] these life changes. And it's because of [27:48] people who watch our show and who give [27:51] and who say, "I want to be part of [27:53] that." And that's amazing. [27:54] >> Yeah. You This is not what you see on a [27:56] tour. No. [27:57] >> But it's the reality of Israel. Friends, [27:59] if you're a Jewish voice partner, you [28:02] literally save people's lives. Don't [28:06] wait. And I want to encourage you and [28:07] get one of these prayer shaws handk knit [28:10] in Ethiopia. These Ethiopians came out [28:13] of object poverty. and they're still [28:15] poor, but they they they have food on [28:17] their their tables now, and they're [28:19] bringing food to others that are in [28:21] abject poverty. And you helped to make [28:23] that possible and can make that possible [28:26] handmade in Ethiopia from the very [28:28] people that were brought to faith [28:30] through this ministry. Here's how you [28:32] can get involved right now. [30:36] There you'll find resources to help you [30:38] grow spiritually and opportunities to [30:41] reach Jewish communities with the good [30:43] news of Jesus Yeshua. As we wrap up the [30:47] program, I want to take a moment to [30:48] pray. This is the week of Yom Kapor, the [30:51] holiest day of the Jewish calendar. And [30:53] there's two things that I think are [30:54] imperative to talk about. One is eternal [30:57] life. It's the day of atonement. The [31:00] high priest would bring the blood into [31:02] the Holy of Holies to make atonement. [31:05] Why? Ultimately, so that you could be [31:07] written in the lamb's book of life. Are [31:10] you in the book of life? This is about [31:13] salvation. This is about the most [31:15] important thing you can hear in your [31:17] lifetime. If you're not yet a believer, [31:19] if you haven't put your faith in Jesus, [31:21] in Yeshua, today is the day of your [31:25] salvation. What a perfect time than the [31:27] season of Yom Kapor, the day of [31:29] atonement where Yeshua went into the [31:33] holy of holies in heaven and made [31:35] eternal sacrifice for us once and for [31:37] all. You can find eternal life simply by [31:40] crying out to him. Don't wait. And the [31:42] other thing is I want to pray not just [31:45] for you and your family, but I want to [31:47] begin by praying for the salvation of [31:50] the Jewish people. And the Bible tells [31:52] us that we have a responsibility as [31:55] believers in Jesus to provoke the Jewish [31:58] people to jealousy and to win them back [32:02] to their God through the Messiah, their [32:04] Messiah, the Jewish Messiah and of [32:07] course the savior of the world. So let's [32:08] join together in the name of Yeshua. In [32:11] Jesus name we speak salvation, [32:13] >> amen, [32:14] >> to the lost sheep of the house of [32:15] Israel. And Lord, we cry out on this [32:17] Yomkapore season for the salvation of [32:20] all the people of Israel. [32:22] >> That you will fulfill your promise in [32:24] Romans 11:25 [32:27] and 26 that all Israel shall be saved. [32:32] We thank you for meeting the needs of [32:34] those that have asked for prayer that [32:36] those who are watching today. Thank you [32:38] for fulfilling the answer to their [32:40] prayers. But also I pray Lord that they [32:42] would become intercessors for the [32:45] salvation of the Jew first [32:48] >> according to Romans chapter 1 verse 16 [32:52] in Jesus name. In Yeshua's name. [32:55] >> Amen. [32:55] >> Amen. There's a blessing in Hebrew for [32:58] Yom Kaporm [33:00] Katima. [33:01] It's like happy new year but it's much [33:03] deeper. It means may you be sealed for [33:06] good in the book of life. In other [33:08] words, may you have eternal [music] [33:10] life. And you can. You can be assured of [33:12] it by putting your faith in Yeshua, in [33:15] Jesus. I want to remind you always to [33:17] pray for the peace of the Holy Land. [33:19] Psalm 122:6 says, "Pray for the peace of [33:22] Jerusalem. May they prosper who love [33:24] thee." Until next time, this is Jonathan [33:26] Bernest [music] along with Scott Vulk [33:28] saying shalom and God bless you.
