How Colombia Is Rebuilding Ties With Israel

Dina Siegel Vann, Founding Director of AJC’s Belfer Institute for Latino and Latin American Affairs, examines Colombia’s renewed diplomatic relationship with Israel and the role of long-term relationship-building in strengthening ties between the two countries. After Colombia severed diplomatic relations with Israel in 2024 under President Gustavo Petro, President Abelardo de la Espriella’s government moved to restore relations, including plans to establish Colombia’s embassy in Jerusalem. The two countries have also discussed expanding cooperation in areas including security and defense. Dina also discusses AJC’s work cultivating relationships with leaders across Latin America and how those longstanding connections can support engagement between the United States, Colombia, and Israel.
