Transcript [00:03] This week on the Jerusalem playlist, [00:04] we're out of our homes and somewhere a [00:06] little bit different. Tell me where we [00:07] are. [00:08] >> We're in Tel Aviv at a very big [00:09] multiplex, a cinema city where they are [00:12] having the OIR Awards this year. [00:14] >> So for people who don't know, tell [00:16] everyone what the Afir Awards are. [00:18] >> So the Oir Awards, people call them the [00:19] Israeli Oscars. They're the prizes of [00:21] the Israel Academy of Film and [00:23] Television. And the winner of the best [00:25] picture award here is uh the is the [00:28] official choice to be considered for a [00:30] best international feature Oscar. So [00:32] it's a big deal who wins the the top [00:34] prize here, but it's also a big deal for [00:36] everyone in the industry who wins all [00:38] the prizes. [00:44] We are here at the OIR Awards. These are [00:46] known as the Israeli Academy Awards, [00:49] where all of the best movies produced [00:51] and made in Israel in the past year are [00:53] nominated. And we can see all of [00:55] Israel's biggest stars and most talented [00:57] actors and filmmakers are here. And the [00:59] winner, the movie that wins best picture [01:01] here at these awards are Israel's [01:03] official submission to the Academy Award [01:05] to be nominated for best international [01:07] feature film. [01:11] So, I'm here with Mayor Levenson Blunt, [01:13] who's an Oscar nominated filmmaker who's [01:17] here at the OPIR Awards. And uh so tell [01:19] us what's it like to be here? [01:21] >> I mean, it's amazing. Uh we had the the [01:25] honor to be nominated for an Oscar, but [01:27] being honored in your own where you [01:29] live, you know, with the filmmakers that [01:30] you've worked with is uh is really [01:33] amazing. So, I'm really grateful to be [01:34] here. Yeah. [01:35] >> What are you working on now? I'm working [01:38] on a feature film. Uh, still in the [01:40] works, so nothing to say about it yet, [01:42] but uh, [01:43] >> a little something, one one word. [01:46] >> It's uh, it's about the West Bank, but [01:49] I'm still uh, still writing it. Yeah, [01:52] >> about the West Bank. All right. Well, so [01:54] we should uh, keep looking for that one. Thank god it's amazing. [02:11] It's uh [02:14] sometimes it's feel it feels surreal. [02:16] Yeah. But uh but it feels like a [02:18] blessing. I mean I'm so glad to be here. [02:20] Ever since I'm maybe four or five years [02:22] old, I've been wanting to be an actor. [02:25] And today I'm going to give uh one of [02:27] the one of the statues and uh it's an [02:30] amazing feeling. I feel like I'm [02:31] manifesting my future. [02:33] >> Are are you studying acting now or how's [02:35] it going with that? I know that you've [02:37] wanted to to act. [02:38] >> Yeah. So I just finished a course in [02:40] Stella Adler in New York. [02:42] >> Oh my god. [02:42] >> Yeah. Yeah. Congratulations. [02:44] >> Thank you so much. It was an amazing [02:46] course. I had first of all I had so much [02:47] fun and I think I gained a lot of skills [02:50] during during my time there. Um I'm [02:53] going to stay a bit in Israel. That's my [02:55] home and I I feel very connected to it. [02:57] So for the next few months I think I'm [02:59] going to stay in Israel, maybe work on a [03:01] few series or movies and [03:03] >> so so directors should know you're [03:06] you're open for auditions, right? [03:08] >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. All the [03:09] directors that they want they need an [03:12] actor, I'm here for them. [03:14] >> Kiki Diane, one of Israel's greatest [03:16] actors who's nominated again for best [03:19] actors tonight. And you won not very [03:21] long ago. You won also. Yes. So tell me [03:24] about your new role. [03:25] >> It's funny and it's sad and it's a [03:29] tragic. [03:31] >> It's a wonderful It's a wonderful [03:34] screaming. [03:38] >> One more. Are you excited to be here or [03:40] are you so used to coming that it's no [03:43] big? [03:43] >> I'm very excited. I'm a very simple [03:46] person. Very uh ordinary people. [03:50] >> Well, you're one of my favorite [03:52] actresses. I'm so happy to meet you. [03:54] You're nominated for a No Fear. [03:56] >> Yeah, it's my first movie and I'm [03:58] nominated and I'm feeling very exciting. [04:01] >> But it must have been a hard movie to [04:03] work on. I mean, it must have been very [04:05] very intense. Tell me a little bit about [04:07] what it was like to make it. [04:09] >> Um, it was hard. I think it it's has a [04:13] lot of difficulty to put all your uh [04:15] emotions there. I put my heart in it and [04:18] it's it was very um fresh subject to to [04:22] try and and touch it and and I was very [04:25] delicated about what I say and how I I'm [04:28] I'm trying to to connect with it. But I [04:32] I think I did my best. I tried to tell [04:34] the story the best I can for those [04:36] people. [04:37] >> Well, you know, it seems like when I saw [04:39] it, I felt like I was seeing you. I felt [04:41] like you're bringing yourself to it. you [04:43] know, obvious famous that he he has um [04:45] he casts people for who they are, not [04:47] for, you know, I mean, what was it like? [04:50] I mean, do I know you if I've seen this [04:52] movie? You know, piece of me. I think [04:54] like connected the pieces of myself. I [04:57] think that she's more naive than I am [04:59] and she has so much beliefs and I don't [05:02] and I really was jealous of that and I [05:05] took it from her and she and I gave it [05:07] to her and we kind of mix it and you [05:11] know I think you know some things that [05:13] from my heart and but there's some [05:17] things missing that you you should find [05:19] out and it's not in the movies. [05:21] >> Are you going to Toronto to the Toronto [05:24] International Film Festival? [05:25] >> Yes, I am. First movie you're going [05:28] >> first movie red carpet. What? How' that [05:31] happen? [05:32] >> You donate. [05:33] >> I It's It's way too fast for me. But um [05:35] I I think I will manage. I'm trying. [05:38] >> Well, you deserve it. You were great. [06:17] >> We've seen you in so many movies and now [06:20] television. You were just in Bad Boy. [06:22] Are you are you working on something new [06:24] or What what are you up to [06:26] >> in November? We are going to to shoot it [06:30] the movie. Yeah. And now here there is a [06:33] cameraman that is running after me and [06:38] three years he's making a [06:43] documentary film about me. [06:45] >> Wow, that's great. You work with like [06:47] every great director. Is there somebody [06:49] who's extra special to you? [06:51] >> I was lucky. I was lucky to work with [06:53] the best directors in Israel and in [06:56] abroad. [06:57] >> You really deserve it. You're really one [06:59] of the best actresses and I'm always [07:01] happy when I see your name that you're [07:02] going to be in it. So [07:04] >> Okay. [07:04] >> Okay. So enjoy. [07:06] >> Thank you. Thank you so much. [07:08] >> I'm here with Moshe Rosenthal who's the [07:10] director of Tell Me Everything. That's [07:12] what we call it in English. And it's the [07:14] movie that's broken all the Awards [07:16] records, nominated for more OIRS than [07:19] any movie in history. So, how are you [07:22] doing? [07:23] >> I'm doing good. I'm excited. Um trying [07:26] to keep my feet on the ground and not [07:28] get too excited, but uh yeah, it's good. [07:31] I'm happy for my cast and crew. [07:33] >> Yeah. Yeah. And um this is a movie that [07:36] you wanted to make for a long time, [07:38] right? And then it got it had its world [07:41] premiere in Sundance. Now you're here [07:42] leading the affairs. I mean is this like [07:44] a dream come true? [07:46] >> It is. But I try to um I try to look at [07:50] my dreams as something very practical [07:52] that I just need to work hard to to um [07:56] accomplish. [07:57] So in a way I feel like I've worked hard [08:00] enough so I would feel just happy you [08:03] know. [08:04] >> Tell me about working with the young [08:06] actors like with Ido and Ya playing the [08:09] same character different ages. very very [08:11] intense. What was it like? [08:13] >> Uh we we really tried to make sure that [08:17] they would feel like the same person and [08:20] part of it was to bring the older actor [08:24] a to watch the younger actor act and [08:28] kind of like mimic his behavior and also [08:30] just see, you know, like the things that [08:33] he experienced [08:35] on film so he could have it as memories. [08:38] and he did just a wonderful work. And [08:40] with the young actor, I I wish I had [08:42] like notes for other directors to work [08:45] with kids, but the truth is I just got [08:47] lucky. This kid is incredible. [08:50] >> You got very very lucky with him. [08:52] >> No, no, not very lucky. [08:53] >> No, he's incredible though. [08:55] >> With with the with the Yeah, for sure. [08:56] For sure. For sure. The rest is hard [08:59] work. [08:59] >> Yeah. So, I'm here with Lena Frefeld. [09:01] She's one of Israel's best actresses and [09:04] she is one of the stars of our loves [09:06] which is nominated for for 12 Oir Awards [09:10] and uh you play a very important role in [09:12] it. What was it like to make that movie? [09:14] Well, uh, for me besides of the October [09:18] 7th was about love, about choice of life [09:22] and and it was moving just like just a [09:25] woman that deciding to do something [09:27] bigger for herself and then get in this [09:29] awful circumstances, but she still [09:32] decides to stay. She survives and [09:34] decides to stay. And this is, I think, [09:37] for Israeli people, it's the most [09:39] important thing. [09:40] >> You were wonderful. You were wonderful. [10:08] >> I learned Polish especially for movie [10:10] because uh it was war in Ukraine. And we [10:13] supposed to to shoot in Ukraine. I see. [10:15] >> So I need to learn Polish. [10:17] >> Yeah. Well, I mean it was it a very [10:19] intense experience to to go and and film [10:22] in Poland in this movie or [10:24] >> Yeah, it was very interesting especially [10:26] we were in very small village and we [10:29] were completely uh out of uh uh [10:31] civilization, you know. It's it helped [10:34] very much. [10:36] >> Yeah. Well, anyway, you you were great [10:37] and I I really wish you all the best [10:39] tonight and and let's do a real [10:41] interview sometime. [11:02] >> So, um So, what are you working on now? [11:05] like what what movie should we look for [11:07] you in next? [11:08] >> I don't know. You have any suggestions? [11:10] I mean, I don't have a lot of my a lot [11:13] of my playlist right now, but I hope [11:16] that we'll get more opportunities soon. [11:18] I'm really excited and I'm having a lot [11:21] of fun from the success and the love [11:23] that the movie gets and I feel it [11:26] everywhere in the comments, people that [11:28] recognize me and I hope it will bring [11:31] good stuff in the future. [11:32] >> So, what are you doing these days? Do [11:34] you go to acting school? Are you [11:36] auditioning? [11:37] >> Uh, actually I'm a kindergarten teacher. [11:40] I'm working with kids, [11:43] but when I have auditions, I did them. [11:45] >> That's so cool. That's the most [11:46] interesting day job I've ever heard. So, [11:49] it's better than being a a waitress, [11:51] huh? So, all right. Well, anyway, I hope [11:53] that um that we and the kids in your [11:56] class and everybody get to see you in a [11:58] new movie soon. [11:59] >> Thank you.
