Transcript [00:00] The Department of Education launching a [00:02] federal civil rights investigation into [00:04] not one but two deep blue state schools, [00:08] San Jose State University and San [00:09] Francisco State University, over [00:12] allegations, Mr. David, that they [00:14] allowed anti-Semitism to flourish while [00:17] Jewish students were threatened, [00:19] isolated, and driven into fear on [00:22] campus. We discussed this last time and [00:24] well, sounded like a broken record. [00:26] We're still talking about this yet [00:27] again. [00:30] >> Yeah, I mean it makes me sigh. It makes [00:33] me very disappointed as an American, not [00:35] just as a Jew, and not just as a Jewish [00:38] American, but as an American. When [00:41] people feel that it is acceptable to [00:43] infringe on the rights of Jewish [00:46] students, [00:47] that is anti-American. So, what has been [00:50] happening is when the Department of [00:52] Education Office for Civil Rights opened [00:55] these investigations, as you just [00:56] mentioned uh [00:58] the issue is whether these anti-Semitic [01:01] harassments created a hostile [01:03] environment and whether universities [01:05] adequately responded. Well, the answer [01:08] is the universities did not adequately [01:10] respond and the answer is yes, [01:13] hostile environments were created where [01:15] Jewish students were intimidated with [01:18] words, with violence, with being barred [01:21] from moving freely across campus, and [01:23] this falls under Title VI of the Civil [01:26] Rights Act because what this means is [01:29] when federal civil rights enforcement uh [01:32] or or that federal civil rights [01:33] enforcement needs to protect Jewish [01:35] students from discrimination based on [01:38] shared ancestry or ethnic [01:40] characteristics. That's what the Civil [01:41] Rights Act defines. So, what this is is [01:46] showing that civil rights enforcement [01:48] needs to be much more engaged because [01:51] Jewish students [01:53] don't need a special standard. They need [01:55] the same standard, which is protection [01:58] under the law. [01:59] >> Yeah. Case in point, over 95% of [02:02] Canadian Jewish university students now [02:04] reporting exposure to anti-Semitism. So, [02:07] it's not only happening right here in [02:09] the states, [02:10] arguably, it's happening throughout the [02:12] world. [02:14] >> And that is increasingly [clears throat] [02:16] frightening because we're seeing the [02:18] manipulation happening within not just [02:20] Western democracies, but democracies [02:22] around the world, where these [02:24] universities [02:26] claim to celebrate diversity everywhere [02:28] except when the minority being targeted [02:30] is Jewish. So, I'm a free speech [02:33] advocate. Free speech protects the right [02:36] to criticize Israel. It does not create [02:39] a civil rights exemption for harassing [02:42] Jewish students. When they call it [02:44] anti-Zionism or anti-Israel, but are [02:46] targeting Jews anywhere they exist, [02:48] well, that's anti-Semitism.
Jewish civil rights are civil rights. Period.

Free speech protects criticism of Israel—even speech I strongly oppose. But it does not give universities permission to ignore discrimination or actionable harassment against Jewish students.
Apply the law equally. No special treatment. No double standards. And no asterisk when the minority being targeted is Jewish.
