Maggie Gyllenhaal draws parallel between NAZA and The Zone of Interest

Maggie Gyllenhaal has compared NAZA, a new film exploring the tactics used by the Israeli military to kill civilians in Gaza, to Jonathan Glazer’s Holocaust film The Zone of Interest. “It reminded me of The Zone of Interest in the way it was about systems,” Gyllenhaal said. The Zone of Interest follows the commandant of Auschwitz and his family living a seemingly ordinary life in a house next to the concentration camp, deliberately contrasting their domestic routine with the atrocities taking place just beyond the wall. NAZA won the Special Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival and received a 25-minute standing ovation, a new festival record. Israel’s Culture Minister Miki Zohar has said he will work to revoke the citizenship of filmmakers Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor over the documentary, calling it a 'betrayal of the state'.
