Could more Israeli hostages have been saved? The Red Cross president's reported remarks have raised new questions about the organization's response to the hostage crisis.
On ALL CAPS, Nitsana Darshan-Leitner explains why Shurat HaDin took the International Committee of the Red Cross to court over its treatment of Israeli hostages held by Hamas.
Following October 7, Shurat HaDin demanded that the Red Cross visit the hostages and help deliver urgently needed medication. Nitsana explains the organization's $10 million Shekel lawsuit, alleging failures to fulfill its humanitarian and legal obligations.
She also draws a troubling historical parallel with the Red Cross's acknowledged failures during the Holocaust.
Now, following remarks attributed to the Red Cross president suggesting earlier pressure during hostage negotiations might have saved more lives, Nitsana explains why the statement matters to Shurat HaDin's case.
"We did not need the Red Cross to express regret. We needed it to save lives."
