And on her forehead a name was [07:29] written, a mystery, Babylon the great, [07:33] the mother of harlots and of the [07:35] abominations of the earth. You have to [07:38] understand a little history here. In the [07:40] first century, when John wrote, "If you [07:43] went to a brothel, the prostitutes would [07:45] wear a band around their head and on [07:47] that band would be their name." You not [07:49] only knew what they were, you knew who [07:51] they were. Well, this image, this [07:54] harlot, she has a name on her forehead. [07:57] That name is Babylon the great, the [08:00] mother of harlots. [08:03] This woman is not just one of the other [08:06] prostitutes. She is the madam of the [08:08] brothel. She is the chief prostitute. [08:12] She is not just another false religion. [08:14] She is the mother of all false [08:17] religions. Her name is Babylon. [08:21] That fascinating name Babylon denotes [08:24] the source of every false religion in [08:28] the world today. I don't have time to [08:30] get into it, but in the 1800s, [08:34] 1862, a Scottish minister named [08:37] Alexander Hlip wrote a book called The [08:40] Two Babylons. [08:42] And he started and traced Babylon where [08:45] it started back to Genesis 11. Remember [08:48] the story of Babel. After the flood, God [08:52] commanded the people to scatter [08:55] throughout the nation to throughout the [08:57] world and to form different nations. [08:59] They were to scatter. [09:02] By the way, that is God's plan right [09:04] now. You hear all of this talk about, [09:07] you know, we need to be not citizens of [09:10] America, but citizens of planet Earth. [09:13] We don't need to think nationally. We [09:16] need to think globally. WE ARE ALL ONE [09:18] PEOPLE. THE only problem with that idea, [09:21] it is completely contrary to the will of [09:23] God. God is the one who created nations, [09:27] distinct nations with distinct [09:29] boundaries and distinct ideas. He told [09:32] the people to scatter to form the [09:34] nations of the earth. They said, "No, [09:35] we're going to found this city Babel." [09:38] Genesis 11. The founder of Babel was [09:42] Nimrod. And they created their own [09:45] religion. They tried to build that tower [09:47] to reach into the heavens. And [09:50] throughout history, those towers, those [09:52] ziggurats were edififices that were made [09:55] to pagan deities. And it angered God [09:59] that they had created their own system, [10:01] their own religious system to worship [10:03] the God of their imagination rather than [10:06] the God of the Bible. Anyway, Alexander [10:09] Hlip believes that this religion, this [10:11] false religion is a particular brand of [10:14] Christianity. we find in the world [10:16] today. The more I study it, the more I [10:19] believe that's probably not the case. I [10:21] think this is going to be a brand new [10:23] religious prostitute that's created for [10:26] the final seduction. I think this false [10:29] religious system will probably be one [10:31] part evangelical Christianity, one part [10:34] Catholicism, one part Islam, one part [10:37] new age movement, one part positive [10:39] thinking, and a little bit of patriotism [10:42] sprinkled on top. And I believe this [10:44] concoction, this religious brew will be [10:48] so inclusive that it will offend nobody [10:51] and attract everybody. That's the only [10:54] way you can do it. And by the way, the [10:57] spirit of Babylonianism is included I is [11:01] very apparent today. We don't call it [11:04] Babylonianism. Nobody would join the [11:06] first church of Babylon probably, but [11:09] it's nevertheless very pervasive. We [11:11] don't call it Babylonianism. You know [11:12] what we call it? Inclusivism, [11:16] pluralism. [11:19] Nobody has a market on the truth. They [11:21] say there are many ways to God. All the [11:23] different world religions are diff just [11:25] different paths up to the same mountain [11:27] that reach to God himself. [11:30] Have you ever noticed that those who cry [11:32] for tolerance and inclusivism are the [11:34] most intolerant people when it comes to [11:36] conservative Christianity? They can [11:39] tolerate any belief except the belief [11:41] that there is one way to God and it's [11:43] through his son the Lord Jesus Christ. [11:46] That's the way it will be in this final [11:48] concoction of religious heresy. The [11:50] final form of Babylonianism [11:53] will invite everybody to come. It will [11:56] teach everything except the right thing. [11:58] And that's why this woman is pictured as [12:01] drinking from the cup the blood of the [12:04] saints. She, the false religious system, [12:07] will work with the Antichrist to [12:09] persecute those who become Christians [12:11] during the great tribulation. That is [12:15] the image that we see of the harlot. [12:18] Now, we'll talk about her judgment in [12:20] just a little bit, but let's look at [12:22] verse 7. He first of all deals with the [12:25] judgment of the beast itself. The [12:28] judgment of the beast. Now, we're going [12:30] to read a lot about beast in the book of [12:32] Revelation. Remember, there are three [12:34] beasts. They're part of the satanic [12:35] trinity. I have it on your outline. The [12:38] beast of the abyss, that's Satan, who is [12:41] the power behind all of it. There's the [12:44] beast out of the sea. That's the [12:45] antichrist, the final world dictator, a [12:48] human leader. And then there's the beast [12:50] out of the earth, the false prophet who [12:53] assists the antichrist. Now, notice what [12:56] he says in verse 7. And the angel said [12:58] to me, "Why do you wonder? I will tell [13:00] you the mystery of the woman and of the [13:03] beast that carries her, which has the [13:05] seven heads and the 10 horns. The beast [13:08] that you saw was and is not and is about [13:11] to come up out of the abyss and go to [13:14] destruction. You'll see this used [13:16] repeatedly. He was, he is not, and he's [13:21] about to be. What is that talking about? [13:24] Remember, the antichrist comes to power [13:27] at the beginning of the great [13:28] tribulation. Revelation 6, he's assisted [13:32] by this false religious system. They [13:34] work together, but early on he appears [13:38] to be assassinated. [13:40] A mortal head wound. People will think [13:42] he has died, but he will be miraculously [13:45] or at least it will appear be [13:47] resurrected. [13:48] It's a counterfeit resurrection. Satan [13:51] counterfeits every truth, including the [13:54] resurrection of Jesus. But when this [13:56] beast is resurrection, this leader, [13:58] people all over the earth will go crazy [14:01] and follow him because of the miracle [14:03] he's presumably had uh performed his own [14:08] resurrection. That's what it's talking [14:10] about here. Verse eight, [14:13] and those who dwell on the earth whose [14:15] name has not been written in the book of [14:17] life from the foundation of the world, [14:19] will wonder when they see the beast that [14:21] he was and is not and will come. Now [14:25] look at the seven heads of this beast. [14:27] Here is the mind which has wisdom. The [14:29] seven heads are the seven mountains on [14:31] which the woman sits. And they are seven [14:34] kings. Five have fallen. One is and the [14:38] other has not yet come. And when he [14:41] comes he must remain a little while. [14:44] Remember John is writing in 90 AD. These [14:48] seven heads represent the seven world [14:51] empires. Five of them have already [14:54] occurred and disappeared from the earth. What are [15:45] those five? Egypt, Assyria, Babylon, [15:49] Meo, Persia, Greece. They were already [15:52] in the dust bend of history by the time [15:55] John wrote this. Five have already [15:57] fallen. One is that's Rome. Rome was [16:01] currently the world power when John [16:03] wrote these words. And the other, the [16:05] seventh, has not yet come. That's the [16:09] kingdom of the Antichrist that is yet to [16:11] come. And when he comes, he must remain [16:14] a little while. The beast which was and [16:16] is not is himself also an eighth. But [16:20] he's also one of the seven and he goes [16:22] to destruction. Well, how could he be [16:24] the leader of the seventh kingdom and [16:27] the final eighth kingdom? Remember what [16:30] I said? While he is in charge of that [16:33] final kingdom, he will appear to die and [16:37] then he'll be resurrected and he'll come [16:39] back in an even stronger form in the [16:41] eighth and final kingdom. That's the [16:43] seven heads that were on the beast. Now, [16:47] let's look at the t horns. The t horns [16:49] which you saw are 10 kings who have not [16:53] yet received a kingdom, but they receive [16:55] authority as with kings with the beast [16:58] for one hour. And they have one purpose [17:00] and they give their power and authority [17:02] to the beast. Apparently, the Antichrist [17:06] will have 10 assistants, if you will, [17:08] governors who rule over various aspects [17:11] of the Antichrist kingdom. [17:14] People often ask, "Well, where is the [17:16] United States of America in all of this? [17:19] If we're even still existing at that [17:21] time, we're probably one of these 10, [17:24] one of these 10 nations that have lost [17:27] all individual national distinction. [17:30] We're just uh a part of this group, this [17:32] 10- nation confederacy over which [17:35] Antichrist rules. You see the beginning [17:38] of that. You've seen it for decades now. [17:41] You have the World Health Organization, [17:44] the World Council on Churches, the World [17:47] Bank. There's this attempt at globalism [17:50] to lose all national distinctions. By [17:54] the time this happens, America will no [17:56] longer have a constitution that we [17:58] follow. There'll be no longer any [17:59] freedom of worship. There'll be no [18:01] freedom of speech. There'll be no [18:03] freedom of commerce. All of those things [18:05] will have been usurped by the leader of [18:08] this global enterprise, the Antichrist [18:10] himself. Now look at the defeat of the [18:13] beast. Verse 14. And these that is the [18:17] kings of the earth will wage war against [18:19] the lamb Jesus. And the lamb will [18:22] overcome them because he is lord of [18:24] lords and kings of kings and those who [18:27] are with him are called the chosen and [18:29] the faithful. John is fast forwarding to [18:32] chapter 19. He said these 10 kings [18:35] they're going to assemble together on at [18:37] Armageddon. They're going to wage war [18:39] against the antichrist. But suddenly the [18:41] Lord will appear in heaven. We will [18:43] appear with him and the lamb will [18:46] overcome them. That is the defeat of the [18:49] beast. Now let's look at the defeat of [18:52] the harlot. That's the final thing John [18:55] saw in verses 15 and 18. And he said to [18:58] me, "The waters which you see where the [19:00] harlot sits, these are the people and [19:03] multitudes of nations and tongues. and [19:05] the t horns which you saw in the beast, [19:08] these will hate the harlot and will make [19:10] her desolate and naked and will eat her [19:13] flesh and will burn her up with fire. [19:17] Halfway through this great tribulation, [19:20] the Antichrist, after using the harlot [19:22] for his own purposes, will discard her [19:25] and destroy her. He will decide he no [19:28] longer needs the church. This false [19:30] religious system, he has all the power [19:32] he needs. And so he will turn on the [19:34] church, this false church, and [19:37] completely destroy her. And why will the [19:40] kings do that? Verse 17, for God has put [19:43] it in their hearts to execute his [19:46] purpose by having a common purpose and [19:50] by giving their kingdom to the beast [19:52] until the words of God will be [19:54] fulfilled. Isn't it interesting? The [19:56] reason the 10 pagan kings destroy the [19:59] flesh, the the harlot is because God [20:02] puts it in their heart to do so. Could I [20:05] just remind you, God is able to work in [20:08] the hearts of non-Christians just like [20:10] he is the hearts of Christians. [20:12] Don't think that that mate of yours has [20:15] to be a Christian for God to use them in [20:17] a positive way. They have to be a [20:19] Christian to go to heaven. But God can [20:21] still speak through that ungodly [20:23] husband. He can speak through ungodly [20:26] rulers. God's purpose will be [20:30] accomplished. And you see that even in [20:32] these final days, [20:35] God will use false religion in a sense [20:39] to accomplish his ultimate purpose. [20:42] False religion will play a key role in [20:45] the final seven years of earth's uh [20:48] history. But false religion is all [20:50] around us today as well. In fact, in 1 [20:54] John 4 and verse one, remember the [20:56] warning. Beloved, don't believe every [20:58] spirit, but test the spirits to see [21:01] whether they are from God because many [21:03] false prophets have gone out into the [21:06] world. [21:08] How can you keep from being seduced [21:12] by false religion? How can you know if a [21:14] religion is really from God or not? John [21:17] gives us three tests, three questions to [21:19] ask about any religion. First of all, [21:23] what does that religion teach about [21:25] Jesus? What does it teach about Jesus? [21:28] Look at verses 2 and three of 1 John 4. [21:30] By this you know the spirit of God. [21:33] Every spirit that confesses that Jesus [21:36] Christ has come in the flesh is from [21:38] God. And every spirit that does not [21:41] confess Jesus is not from God. This is [21:44] the spirit of the antichrist of which [21:46] you have heard that it is coming and [21:48] it's now already in the world. There are [21:50] many religions that profess to believe [21:52] in Jesus. You talk to Muslims. Oh, I I [21:55] talk to them in the cab all the time [21:57] back when I was traveling talking to uh [22:00] Muslims and I would talk to them about [22:01] Christ. Oh, yes, we believe in Jesus, [22:04] great prophet of God. They believe he [22:06] was a great prophet of God. They will [22:08] even say he was a son of God, one of [22:11] many sons of God. Yes, he died on the [22:13] cross, but he was miraculously delivered [22:15] before he actually died on the cross so [22:18] he didn't have to experience death. [22:20] That's not the Jesus of the Bible. [22:22] That's the Jesus of Muhammad's [22:24] imagination. [22:25] You talk to Mormons, oh yes, we believe [22:28] in Jesus. We're we're the church of [22:30] Jesus Christ. He's even in our name. But [22:33] the Jesus they believe in is not the [22:35] Jesus of the Bible. It's the Jesus that [22:37] appeared to Joseph Smith. It's the uh [22:40] Jesus. Well, I'm not even going to get [22:42] into all of it, but it's not the Jesus [22:44] of the Bible. To believe, to confess [22:47] that Jesus is Lord means to believe that [22:51] Jesus is the unique son of God who came [22:55] to earth in human form, who died on the [22:57] cross for the redemption of our sins, [22:59] who was buried and rose again on the [23:01] third day, who ascended into heaven, and [23:03] is coming back one day to reclaim this [23:05] earth for himself. That's the Jesus you [23:08] have to believe in in order to be saved. [23:11] What does the religion teach about [23:12] Jesus? Secondly, ask yourself the [23:15] question, what does this religion [23:17] believe about salvation? Paul said, even [23:20] if we are an angel from heaven should [23:22] preach to you a gospel contrary to what [23:25] we have preached to you, that person is [23:28] to be accursed. [23:30] John Paul was writing to the Galatians. [23:33] They were falling for a doctrine that [23:35] said, "Oh, yes, faith in Christ is [23:37] important, but it's not enough. You need [23:40] to have faith in Christ plus be [23:42] circumcised. Faith in God and keep the [23:45] ten commandments. Faith in God and be [23:47] whatever whatever it is faith and what [23:51] did he say about that kind of religion?" [23:53] Paul said, "If anybody tells you that [23:55] kind of message, let that person be [23:57] anathema, literally a cursed, literally [24:01] damned forever." [24:03] Anybody who adds to Christianity, it's [24:06] faith in Christ and something else is [24:09] teaching a false truth. And if they say [24:12] anything other than trust in Christ and [24:15] Christ alone for the forgiveness of your [24:17] sins, you know they're espousing a false [24:20] religion. What does that faith teach [24:23] about salvation? And finally, ask [24:26] yourself, what results does this [24:28] religion produce? You know, in 2 Timothy [24:31] 3:5, Paul described a form of godliness. [24:35] They hold to a form of godliness, [24:38] although they have denied its power. He [24:40] said, "Avoid men such as these." [24:45] You know, my concern [24:47] for a church like First Baptist Dallas [24:49] that has 152 years of standing on the [24:52] truth of God's word is that we can know [24:55] God's word backward and forward. We can [24:57] identify the harlot in Revelation 17. We [25:00] understand the importance of Israel in [25:02] Bible prophecy. We can give you that the [25:05] 10 reasons that the virgin birth is [25:07] important. We can spout off all of these [25:10] things, [25:13] but we still can't forgive those who [25:15] wrong us. [25:17] We still can't overcome sin in our life. [25:21] We still can't overcome racism, hating [25:24] somebody because of the color of their [25:26] skin. [25:28] That religion is just as wrong and [25:30] hollow as the other religions I [25:32] mentioned. [25:34] True faith in Christ [25:36] will result in a transformed life [25:39] through the power of the Holy Spirit. [25:42] And if that transformation isn't taking [25:44] place in your life, then your religion [25:46] is just as worthless as the other [25:48] religions. [25:50] John is telling us, avoid all kinds of [25:54] false religions. [25:56] Avoid any faith that denies the person [25:59] of Christ, [26:01] that denies the provision, the only [26:03] provision of God for salvation, [26:06] and denies the power of the Holy Spirit [26:10] to transform a life. [26:18] Real life transforming faith is [26:20] impossible to fake. And while many will [26:22] be seduced [music] by this false [26:24] religion in the final days, only those [26:26] who put their faith in Jesus Christ [26:29] [music] will be saved from God's [26:30] judgment.
