[03:15] >> [music] [03:19] >> Oh, [singing] [03:20] give thanks [03:22] to the [music] Lord. [singing] [03:26] Call upon [03:29] his name. [03:32] name. Seek the Lord [03:37] [singing] and his strength. [03:41] Glory [singing] [03:43] to his name. [03:48] Hallelujah. [03:53] [singing] [03:56] Halleluah. [03:58] [singing] [04:03] Hallelujah. [music] [07:44] Oh [07:46] [singing] Lord, [07:49] [music] [07:58] Shabbat shalom. [08:03] >> How are you? [08:15] >> [singing] [08:19] >> Blessed, praised, glorified, and exalted [08:22] is the name of the king who rules over [08:25] kings. The holy one who has given us the [08:28] way of salvation in Messiah Yeshua. [08:31] Blessed is he [08:34] >> for he is the first and he is the last [08:38] and aside from him [08:40] >> there is no god [08:51] >> please stand if you're able and face [08:52] east for the shama [08:57] >> shama [08:59] [singing] Isel [09:02] Adonai [09:08] Adona. [singing] [09:14] [singing] [09:22] [singing] [09:27] [singing] [09:39] Where are you? [09:50] Fore! [09:56] [singing] [10:02] Foreign! Foreign! [10:11] for [10:28] [singing] [10:38] honey. [10:40] >> [singing] [10:41] >> Adonit. [10:56] [singing] [11:01] And Yeshua said, [11:18] Make [11:21] [singing] [11:27] [singing] [11:31] no [singing] [11:33] he [11:39] Open my mouth, O Lord, and my lips will [11:42] proclaim your praise. [11:44] >> Blessed are you, oh Lord, our God and [11:47] God of our ancestors, God of Abraham, [11:50] Isaac, and Jacob. Our God who remembers [11:54] Sarah, Rebecca, Rachel, and great, [11:58] mighty, awesome, exalted God, who [12:00] bestows loving kindness, creator of all [12:06] love to our ancestors and send the [12:08] redeemer to their children's children [12:11] for the sake of your name and your [12:13] loving nature. You are the king who [12:16] helps and saves and shields. Blessed are [12:18] you, O Lord, shield of Abraham. [12:21] >> Your might, O Lord, is boundless. You [12:24] give life to the dead. Great is your [12:27] saving power. You sustain the living [12:29] with loving kindness. In your great [12:31] mercy, you give life to the dead. You [12:34] support the fallen, heal the alien, free [12:37] the fedtered. Whose power can compare [12:41] with yours? You are the master of life [12:43] and death who brings forth salvation. [12:46] Faithful are you in giving life to the [12:48] dead. Blessed are you, O Lord, who gives [12:51] life to the dead. [13:03] Fore [13:32] the door. Hallelujah. You are holy and [13:36] your name is holy and the holy ones [13:38] daily give you praise. Blessed are you [13:41] Lord God. Being found in appearance as a [13:46] man he humbled himself by becoming [13:48] obedient to the point of death even [13:51] death on a cross. For this reason also [13:54] God highly exalted him and bestowed on [13:57] him the name which is above every name. [13:59] that in the name of Yeshua, every knee [14:02] will bow of those who are in heaven and [14:05] on earth and under the earth and that [14:08] every tongue will confess that Yeshua [14:10] Messiah is Lord to the glory of God the [14:13] Father. [14:14] >> Moses rejoiced in the gift bestowed on [14:17] him when you called him faithful servant [14:19] placing on his head a crown of glory as [14:22] he stood before you on Mount Si. In his [14:25] arms he carried the two tablets of stone [14:28] on which the commandment of Shabbat was [14:30] inscribed. Thus it is also written in [14:33] your Torah. And we turn to page 34 to [14:36] continue the [14:39] here with the visham [14:44] [singing] [14:59] [singing] Israel [15:05] [singing] [15:11] >> [singing] [15:15] >> Bet Israel [15:21] [singing] [15:22] V [15:25] is [15:28] [singing] shoro. [15:37] >> [singing] [15:43] >> night [15:45] [singing] [15:51] [singing] is [15:55] hash [15:58] [singing] [16:01] the door to So long [16:11] shel [singing] [16:20] [singing] [16:25] [singing] [16:32] we Return to the bottom of page 14 for [16:35] the sanctification of the day. [16:40] Our [clears throat] God and God of our [16:41] fathers, may you be pleased with our [16:44] rest. Sanctify us through your [16:47] commandments and grant us our portion in [16:49] your Torah. Satisfy us with your [16:52] goodness and make us rejoice in your [16:55] salvation. [16:56] Purify our hearts to serve [16:58] [clears throat] you in truth. In love [17:00] and favor, Lord our God, let us inherit [17:03] your holy shabbat. May your people [17:06] Israel sanctify your name on this day. [17:10] Blessed are you, oh Lord, who makes the [17:13] Shabbat holy. [17:14] >> Accept, O Lord, the prayer of your [17:16] people as it is offered. May the worship [17:19] of those who call upon your name always [17:21] be acceptable to you. May our eyes [17:24] witness the return of our Messiah to [17:27] Zion. Blessed are you, O Lord, who [17:30] restores his presence to Zion. [17:33] >> We gratefully acknowledge that you are [17:35] the Lord our God and God of our [17:38] ancestors forever and ever. You are [17:41] source [17:42] even as you have been Israel's [17:44] protecting shield in every generation. [17:47] We thank you and proclaim your praise [17:49] for our lives which are in your hand for [17:52] our souls which are in your care for [17:55] your miracles which are daily with us [17:57] and for your wondous kindness at all [17:59] times morning and night. You are good [18:03] with everlasting mercy. You are [18:06] compassionate with enduring loving [18:08] kindness. From long ago we have placed [18:10] our hope in you. [clears throat] [18:12] May all who live give thanks to you and [18:15] praise your name in truth. For you are [18:18] our salvation and our help. [18:20] >> Blessed are you Lord for your name is [18:23] good and it is fitting to give you. [18:26] >> Grant true and lasting peace to your [18:29] people Israel and to all who dwell on [18:31] earth. Bless us our father all of us as [18:34] one with the light of your presence. For [18:37] in the light of your presence, you gave [18:39] us, Lord our God, the Torah of life, [18:42] love of grace, righteousness, blessing, [18:46] mercy, life, and peace. May it please [18:49] you to bless your people, Israel, in [18:51] every season and at all times with your [18:54] gift of peace. [18:55] >> Blessed are you, oh Lord, who blesses [18:58] his people with peace. [19:00] >> Magnified and sanctified be his great [19:02] name in the world which he has created [19:05] according to his will. May he establish [19:08] his kingdom during your life and during [19:10] your days and during the life of the [19:13] whole house of Israel even swiftly and [19:16] soon and say [19:17] >> amen. Let his great name be blessed [19:20] forever and to all eternity. [19:23] >> Blessed, praised and glorified, exalted, [19:26] extolled and honored, magnified and laed [19:29] be the name of the holy one. Blessed be [19:31] he, though he be high above all the [19:34] blessings and songs, praises and [19:36] consolations which are uttered in the [19:38] world and say [19:39] >> amen. He makes [19:43] peace upon us and all and say amen. [19:49] >> Amen. [19:50] >> Shabbat shalom. Welcome everybody. [19:56] >> Welcome to you too. Shabbat shalom to [19:58] you. [20:01] So today uh we are having um deli and [20:06] discussion on and so hopefully you [20:09] brought some stuff because somehow I [20:11] confused myself into thinking it was [20:13] tacos and toraas after I bought the deli [20:15] food which is sitting in my fridge. So [20:19] um we have other stuff that can go on [20:21] your sandwiches though. We have tomatoes [20:23] and cucumbers. [20:24] >> I definitely thought it was tacos too. [20:25] >> Did you? [20:26] >> Yep. Well, we didn't really bring a [20:28] whole lot of taco stuff, too. [20:30] >> We have food. We have onig today. We [20:33] have onig in discussion. Isn't that [20:35] going to be good? [20:36] >> It's a fiesta. [20:37] >> It's a fiesta. [laughter] [20:40] A fiesta followed by a siesta. [20:43] >> Okay. So, um announcements that um [20:47] Lungrens, actually all Lungrens, well, [20:50] my husband and I are going to be gone [20:52] from Monday through Wednesday the 26th, [20:57] and we will mostly not be reachable [21:01] during that time. If there's an [21:03] emergency, you can reach us um through [21:05] calling the Louis Campground directly. [21:09] So, if you text us or leave phone [21:11] messages on the answering machine, we [21:13] will only get them when we go into town [21:15] for groceries because there is [21:16] absolutely no cell service, no Wi-Fi at [21:20] all where we are. So, every year people [21:22] think that we are getting our messages [21:25] and um we are not. And people think [21:28] we're getting our texts and we are not. [21:31] But um if there's something that's [21:33] somewhat urgent that you need us to know [21:35] about, feel free to text us about it and [21:37] we'll find out possibly sometime during [21:39] the week when we get groceries. So it's [21:42] our annual full family vacation. The [21:45] other Lrens will be gone um slightly [21:48] shorter than that time frame. Okay. Elul [21:52] began Thursday night, right? And we are [21:56] in the 40 days of prayer for those who [21:58] have decided to do it. And uh if you [22:01] didn't pick them up last week, we have [22:03] these alol um sheets on the back table [22:06] that are kind of a guideline to what the [22:09] month of Elul is all about. And um so I [22:14] don't know if any of you has blown a [22:16] chauffear yet or said Psalm 27 yet. [22:19] Anybody do that besides me and my [22:21] husband? [22:23] >> So there's still plenty of time to do it [22:25] and uh there's no condemnation if you [22:28] don't do it really. Um the just we have [22:32] a whole month we have a whole month of [22:34] preparation for the holy days. A good [22:36] month of examination. [22:38] So there's plenty of time. Next Shabbat. [22:43] There is [22:44] >> no Shabbat. [22:45] >> No Shabbat service. There's still a [22:47] Shabbat, [22:48] >> but there is no Shabbat service. So [22:50] please don't show up here. Um if you see [22:54] anybody, please let them know. I'll try [22:56] to get it up on Facebook also during the [22:59] week. So, two weeks from today, what's [23:03] happening? [23:06] >> Ben and Lorena will be here with us. I [23:10] wasn't sure if she was coming, but she [23:11] is. So, that's exciting. So, Ben and [23:13] Lena, he's president of Tun America. [23:16] They will be with us on Shabbat August [23:20] 29th. [23:22] So, please come. uh feel free to invite [23:25] a friend although they're mostly coming [23:27] just to see us as a congregation not as [23:30] a you know special speaker kind of thing [23:33] but anyhow um hope you can all make it [23:36] then please continue to give to Israel [23:39] in person or through the links we have [23:41] on our web page and Facebook page for um [23:44] dealing with the soldiers and uh people [23:47] who are losing income because of ongoing [23:49] wartime activity. I think that is all [23:53] for the regular announcements. [23:57] Okay. Um, [23:59] also, just so you know, I got really [24:02] sick with something um last Saturday, so [24:05] please be on the lookout. I um, [24:08] ironically being the person who gives [24:10] the public service announcements, may [24:11] have managed to make a mistake myself [24:14] and eat the wrong thing. So, um, you [24:18] know, the FDA said, "Oh, things are [24:21] fine." And then they went, "Oh, wait. [24:22] They're not." So, um, probably the [24:26] safest thing is just to avoid any [24:28] lettucees that you did not pick from a [24:31] local garden and pull all the leaves off [24:33] yourself. So, that's another PSA [24:36] announcement. [24:38] Um, people were praying for me. We have [24:41] all the war wounded. uh my husband who [24:44] is getting somewhat better with the [24:46] sciatica. [24:48] Um Sylvie, me um Amy, Arena, Jackie [24:54] Santoro, who is actually doing a great [24:56] job recovering from her surgery but [24:59] still needs prayer as her live-in help [25:02] will be leaving soon. [25:04] Cheryl, [25:05] um, Brian for ongoing healing, Brian's [25:08] mother, Betty, Brett, Phil, Craig's [25:11] grandfather, Jenny, Joannne's cousin, [25:14] Susan, Bill's brothers, Robert and [25:16] Frederick, and Bill's sisters, Janet, [25:20] Ron, Dean's mom, who is now in the [25:23] hospital. So pray for Dean's mom and [25:25] mother-in-law, [25:27] Francis, Marty, Craig, uncle, Craig's [25:31] uncle, Louie, Keith, Marty, Hibba, [25:34] Selma, and Joanne, and Florence for [25:36] their vision, Jan, Martha, Sana, Dena's [25:40] mother, the Crossroads Christian [25:42] Fellowship people, and then people [25:44] battling cancer, Frank, Donna D. Pascal, [25:49] Craig's aunt, Kelly's cousins, Geraldine [25:52] and Ellie, Bob, Rowan's father and [25:55] uncle, Ramon, David, David A. Fausto D, [26:00] Carl, Naja, Diane, Evangelene, Larry, S, [26:05] Millie, Gloria, Joake, Michael, Johnny, [26:09] Frederick, Jill, and Rob. By the way, [26:12] many we're praying for on the cancer [26:14] list are in remission. Um but until they [26:18] are you know completely cancer free [26:22] sometimes you can just remove a tumor [26:24] and be pronounced cancer free but u many [26:27] of these people are still in an ongoing [26:29] battle but in remission so we continue [26:32] to pray for them. Is there anyone else [26:34] who needs prayer? [26:35] >> Yeah my uh grandmother on my mom's side [26:39] just had a tumor removed from uh from [26:42] her. So, we're hoping and praying it's [26:44] not cancer. Okay. She's got a bunch of [26:46] other things I can tell you about, but [26:48] Okay. Main thing. [26:49] >> Craig's grandmother, [26:50] >> my uh my mom would deal with the [26:52] situation. [26:53] >> Oh, right. Sorry. I'm so sorry, Rowan. [26:55] Yeah. Um Rowan's mother for um abdominal [26:58] aneurysm issues possibly. [27:10] >> Okay. childhood friend of Robert's [27:13] pancreatic cancer, Noah. [27:21] >> Yeah. So, Noah still recovering from [27:23] whatever, the headaches, the pain, um [27:26] you know, all of that. I don't want to [27:29] get hyper spiritual, but it just seems [27:31] like there's an awful lot hitting um [27:35] people in kind of chronic unusual ways [27:38] lately. Um so, [27:42] You know, there isn't a demon behind [27:44] every bush, but they do exist. And we [27:46] are in a battle. And the reason we pray [27:48] for the sick is not just because it's a [27:51] physical thing, because it's a spiritual [27:53] thing. You know, we aren't bodies that [27:55] have souls. We're souls that have [27:57] bodies. [28:00] So, uh, Aba Father, we just come to you [28:04] in a position of, uh, weakness in our [28:07] own bodies, [28:10] Lord. Um, your word says that when we [28:13] are weak, you are strong. [28:16] So, we're not ashamed of our weakness. [28:19] We're not ashamed of our physical needs, [28:22] our mental health needs. We're not [28:24] ashamed of any of it, Lord. It's your [28:26] desire [28:28] to heal. We saw that through the [28:31] compassion of Yeshua. [28:34] So we ask you Lord to move upon each one [28:39] to bring restoration, [28:41] healing, strength, [28:43] enliven them. Lord, we ask that you [28:46] would send speedily a complete healing [28:49] of the soul [28:51] and then the healing of the body [28:54] along with all the ill among the people [28:56] of Israel and all humankind soon, [28:59] speedily, without delay. be real. [29:15] >> Before we pray for Israel and the United [29:17] States, I'd like to read from Luke [29:18] chapter 12, [29:21] starting in verse 30. [29:26] For all the pagan nations in the world [29:29] set their hearts on these things. [29:34] Your father knows that you need them, [29:37] too. Rather, seek his kingdom, and these [29:42] things will be given to you as well. [29:46] Have no fear, little flock, for your [29:48] father has resolved to give you the [29:51] kingdom. [29:53] Father, we thank you for Israel as a [29:55] nation. [29:56] Pray you bless Benjamin Antinahu and the [30:01] Knesset and the rabbis and messianic [30:04] communities there and [30:06] and the soldiers. Lord, give the [30:09] commanders of decisive decisions. [30:12] We pray for all the sick and that are [30:15] wounded [30:17] in Israel. [30:19] We thank you for the United States. Pray [30:20] for President Trump. you save him and [30:24] the members of the Senate and House of [30:26] Representatives. We pray for Governor [30:28] Hokll, Lord, and all the judges in New [30:31] York and the police and the [30:33] firefighters, Lord. Pray you bless them, [30:36] keep them safe. We thank you for the [30:38] dedication. We also pray for the doctors [30:40] and nurses that help people that are [30:43] sick. And we ask it in Yeshua's name. [30:46] Amen. [30:46] >> Amen. [31:17] The blessing before The Torah reading is [31:21] on page 19. [31:36] for. [32:01] The Torah reading is from Deuteronomy [32:04] chapter 191 through 20 [32:08] 18. [32:16] Right? When Adonai your God cuts off the [32:19] nations whose land Adonai your God is [32:22] giving you, and you dispossess them, and [32:24] dwell in their cities and houses, [32:27] you are to set apart three cities for [32:30] yourself uh within the land he is giving [32:33] you to possess. [32:36] You are to prepare [32:38] for yourself and divide it in three [32:40] parts, the borders of your land that [32:42] Adonai, your God enables you to inherit. [32:46] so that anyone who kills may flee there. [32:50] Now this is the case of the one who [32:52] kills who may flee there and live. [32:55] Whoever kills his neighbor [32:56] unintentionally and did not hit him in [32:59] the past as when someone goes into the [33:01] forest with his neighbor to chop wood [33:04] and his hand takes a swing with the axe [33:06] to cut down the tree and the iron flies [33:09] off the wood and hits his neighbor so [33:12] that he dies. He may flee to one of [33:14] these cities and live. [33:17] Otherwise, [33:18] if the way is long, the avenger of the [33:21] blood, while his heart is hot, may chase [33:25] the manslayer, catch up to him, and [33:27] strike him dead. Yet no death sentence [33:31] is on him, since he did not hate him in [33:34] the past. Therefore, I am commanding [33:37] you, set apart three cities cities for [33:40] yourself. [33:43] Suppose Adonai your God enlarges your [33:45] territory as he has sworn to your [33:49] fathers and he gives you all the land [33:51] that he promised to give to your [33:54] fathers. when you take care to do all [33:56] his mitah that I am commanding you today [34:00] to love Adonai your God and to always [34:02] walk in his ways and you are to add [34:05] three more cities to yourself besides [34:08] these three [34:10] then innocent blood will not be shed [34:12] within your land that Adonai your God is [34:15] giving you as an inheritance and there [34:18] would be blood upon you [34:20] but suppose someone hates his neighbor [34:23] waits in hiding for him, rises up [34:26] against him, strikes him dead, and flees [34:29] one of these cities. Then the elders of [34:31] his hometown should send and take him [34:35] from there and hand him over to the [34:36] avenger of blood to die. Your eye should [34:40] not pity him, but you must purge the [34:42] innocent blood from Israel so that it [34:45] may go well with you. [34:48] You must not move your neighbor's [34:51] boundary marker that the first [34:53] generation marked out in the inheritance [34:56] you will in the inheritance you will [34:59] receive in the land Adonai your God is [35:01] giving you to possess. [35:03] A single witness shall not rise up [35:06] against a person for any offense or sin [35:09] that he commits. But the word of two or [35:13] three witnesses is the case to be [35:15] established. Suppose a hostile witness [35:18] rises up against someone to accuse him [35:20] of wrongdoing. Then both people who have [35:24] the dispute will stand before Adonai [35:27] before the kohanim and judges in charge [35:29] at that time. The judges are to [35:32] investigate thoroughly. And if indeed [35:35] the witness is a false witness and has [35:38] testifies testified [35:42] falsely against his brother, then you [35:44] are to do [35:47] to him as he had plotted to do to his [35:50] brother. [35:52] So you will purge the evil evil from [35:54] your um [35:58] midst. [35:59] Those who remain will hear and be [36:02] afraid, [clears throat] [36:04] and they will no longer do such an evil [36:06] thing as this in your um midst. Your eye [36:11] must not show pity. Your your eye must [36:14] not show pity. Life for life, eye for [36:17] eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, [36:19] foot for foot. [36:22] When you go out to battle against your [36:24] enemies, the seahorse and chariot, [36:27] people more numerous than you, do not be [36:30] afraid of them. For Adonai, your God, [36:33] the one who brought you up from the land [36:35] of Egypt, is with you. [36:38] When you draw near to the battle, the [36:40] Cohen will come forward and speak to the [36:42] people. He will say to them, "Here, O [36:45] Israel, you are drawing near today to [36:48] the battle against your enemies. Don't [36:50] be faint-hearted. Don't fear or panic or [36:54] tremble because of them. [36:57] For Adonai, your God is the one who goes [37:01] with you to fight for you against your [37:04] enemies to save you. [37:07] The officers are to speak to the troops, [37:09] saying, "What man has built a new house, [37:12] but has not dedicated it? Let it let him [37:16] go back to his house otherwise he might [37:18] die in the battle. Another man would [37:22] dedicate it. [37:24] What man has planted a vineyard but has [37:26] not put it to use? Let him go back to [37:29] his house otherwise he might not he [37:32] might die in the battle and another man [37:34] would begin to use it. What man has [37:37] become engaged to a woman but has not [37:39] married her? let him go back to his [37:42] house otherwise he might die in the [37:45] battle and another man would marry her. [37:48] The officers will speak further to the [37:50] troops and say, "What man is afraid and [37:53] faint-hearted? [37:55] Let him go back to his house so he does [37:57] not weaken his brother's heart like his [38:00] own." [38:02] Then when the officers have finished [38:05] speaking to the troops, they should [38:07] appoint army commanders as the head of [38:10] the troops. When you go near a city to [38:12] fight against it, call call out shalom [38:15] to it. Now if it answers you shalom and [38:20] opens up to you, [38:24] then all the people found in it will [38:26] serve you as forced laborers. [38:30] If it does not make peace with you, but [38:32] makes war against you, they lay siege [38:35] against that city. Sorry, then lay siege [38:38] against that city. When Adonai your God [38:41] hands it over to you, you are to strike [38:44] all its males with the sword. [38:47] Only the women, the women, children, [38:50] livestock, and all that is in the city, [38:53] all its spoils, may you take as plunder [38:56] for yourself. [38:58] So you may consume your enemies spoil [39:01] which Adonai your God has given you. [39:04] Thus you will do do to all the cities [39:07] that are very distant from you which are [39:11] not among the towns of these nations [39:13] nearby. [39:15] However only from the cities of these [39:17] peoples which Adonai your God is giving [39:20] you as an inheritance. You must not let [39:23] anything that breeds live. [39:26] You must utterly destroy them. The [39:30] Hittites, the Amorites, the Canaanites, [39:33] the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the [39:35] Jebusites, just as Adonai your God has [39:38] commanded you. You are to do this so [39:42] they will not teach you to do all the [39:44] abominations as they have done for their [39:47] gods. And so you would sin against [39:50] Adonai your God. [40:00] The blessing after the Torah reading [40:04] is on page 21. [40:28] >> [clears throat] [40:30] >> So this week for the Devar Torah, I want [40:32] to talk about [40:35] a little bit on the human heart and how [40:38] it ties uh to us to a verse on [40:42] Deuteronomy 18:13 [40:45] where it says, [40:47] uh you must be wholehearted to Adonai [40:50] your God. And this was written in the [40:53] context um of when the Lord said to the [40:56] Israelites that um when you enter um [41:00] that land to not learn the abominable [41:03] practice of the people um the land the [41:07] the land sorry and he says that this is [41:10] the reason the Lord is driving out [41:12] people out of that land because they he [41:15] doesn't want uh his children to be [41:18] involved in anything of that or anything [41:21] that would uh stray them away from that. [41:24] Now um picture a human heart you know we [41:27] have the veins it brings the blood back [41:30] the arteries pump the blood out of the [41:33] uh into the body and then there are also [41:36] things um [41:40] I'm sorry things that also affect [41:43] I'm going I'm going to just continue [41:44] with this things that also affect our [41:47] hearts are the things we dwell on things [41:50] that we consume whether we have any [41:53] physical activity or not. Um and [41:58] our hearts like any living tissue tissue [42:01] in our body uh can get sick of anything. [42:05] Um and in in the psycho [42:09] in sorry in terms of our heart like any [42:12] any blockage in it can make it uh less [42:17] efficient. Um and also um as we know the [42:21] things that we dwell on can actually [42:26] um make the heart sick. It can also uh [42:29] make it feel lost if we we might say [42:32] that way. Um in thinking of this thing [42:36] of the wholehearted [42:39] um to be wholehearted I was thinking if [42:42] bits and pieces of our heart is um [42:46] drifting away in different uh [42:49] directions. Um how can it be uh [42:54] sustained if the heart itself is not [42:56] walking in a straight line? How can it [42:59] uh be sustained? uh it can only be [43:02] sustained by the creator himself. [43:05] So [43:07] our hearts are precious if we know and [43:10] we know our father uh wants to have it [43:13] uh fully and just for for in this season [43:18] that we are in. Just wanted to say um to [43:22] spend some time with the Lord and ask [43:25] Lord uh where is is is my heart um with [43:29] you? Um, are there bits and pieces that [43:33] are all over, you know, the area? Are [43:35] there things that are making it uh drift [43:39] away? Um, and uh just wanted to [43:43] encourage to um to you guys who to seek [43:47] that wholeheartedness uh toward the Lord [43:50] in this season. [43:59] How many you think Roman should get real [44:00] messages? [44:01] >> That's right. [44:03] >> That's right. [44:04] >> Thank you. [44:05] >> 20. [44:17] >> The blessing before the haftar reading. [44:20] For [44:25] [singing] [44:29] there [44:37] [singing] [44:44] [singing] [44:52] >> [singing] [44:54] >> What said? [44:57] Amen. [singing] [45:23] The half reading today, [45:26] [clears throat] [45:29] excuse me, comes from the book of Isaiah [45:32] Yeshua. [45:34] um beginning with chapter 51:12 [45:38] and concluding with chapter 52:12. [45:47] I [45:49] I am the one who comforts you. [45:53] Who are you that you should fear man [45:57] who dies [45:59] or a son of man who is given up like [46:01] grass? [46:04] But you forgot Adonai, your maker, who [46:07] stretched out the heavens and laid the [46:09] foundations of the earth. [46:12] Are you in constant dread all day [46:14] because of the fury of the oppressor as [46:16] he makes ready to destroy? [46:19] But where's the fury of the oppressor? [46:23] Soon one bowed down will be released. [46:27] He will not die and go to the pit, nor [46:30] will his bread be lacking. [46:33] For I am Adonai, your God who stirs up [46:36] the sea so that its waves roar. [46:40] Adonai is his name. [46:44] I put my words in your mouth [46:48] and covered you with the shadow of my [46:52] hand. I who set the heavens in place, [46:56] who laid the foundations of the earth, [46:58] and say to Zion, "You are my people." [47:03] Awake, awake, [47:06] stand up, Jerusalem, [47:09] from Adoni's hand. You have drunk the [47:11] cup of his fury, the chalice of reeling [47:15] that you have drained to the drags. [47:18] There is none to guide her among all the [47:20] sons she has borne. Neither is there one [47:23] to take her by the hand among all the [47:27] sons she has raised. [47:31] These two things have befallen you. Who [47:33] will mourn for you? Devastation and [47:36] destruction, famine and the sword. How [47:39] will I comfort you? [47:44] Your sons have fainted. [47:46] They lie at every street corner like an [47:49] antelope in the net. They are full of [47:52] Adonai's fury, the rebuke of your God. [47:55] Therefore, hear this, you who are [47:57] afflicted, who are drunk but not with [48:00] wine. Thus says the Lord your God, your [48:03] Lord Adonai your God, who defends his [48:06] people. Behold, I have taken from your [48:10] hand the cup of reeling, the bowl of my [48:13] wrath. You will never drink it again. [48:17] Then I will put it into the hand of your [48:19] tormentors who said to you, [48:23] [crying] [48:24] "Lie down so that we may walk over you. [48:28] You have made your back like the ground [48:31] and like a street for passers by. [48:34] Awake, awake. Clothe yourself in your [48:40] strength, Zion. [48:44] Clothe yourself in beautiful garments, [48:47] you shall lie in the holy city, for the [48:50] uncircumcised and the unclean will never [48:54] invade you again. [48:56] Shake off the dust and arise. [48:59] Be enthroned, Jerusaleam. [49:02] Loose the bonds off your neck, captive, [49:05] daughter of Zion. For thus says Adonai, [49:09] you were sold for nothing. [49:12] So you will be redeemed without silver. [49:15] For thus says Adoni Elohim, "At first my [49:18] people went down to Egypt to reside [49:20] there." Then the Assyrian oppressed them [49:23] for nothing. Now therefore, what do I [49:26] have here? It is a declaration of Adoni. [49:30] My people are taken away for nothing. [49:33] Its rulers whail. [49:36] It is Adoni's declaration. and my name [49:39] is continually blasphemed all day long. [49:43] Therefore, my people will know my name. [49:49] Therefore, in that day, I am the one who [49:52] will be saying, "He name me. [50:05] How beautiful [50:07] on the mountains [50:09] are the feet of him who brings good [50:12] news, [50:14] who announces shalom, [50:17] who brings good news of happiness, [50:20] who announces salvation, [50:23] who says to Zion, "Your God reigns." [50:28] >> Amen. [50:29] >> The voice of your watchmen, they will [50:32] lift up their voices together. They are [50:34] shouting for joy. They will see eye to [50:38] eye when Adonai returns to Zion. Break [50:42] forth in joy. Sing together you ruins of [50:45] Jerusalem. [50:47] For Adonai has comforted his people. He [50:51] has redeemed Jerusalem. [50:53] Adonai has bared his holy arm before the [50:56] eyes of all the nations. All the ends of [50:59] the earth will see the salvation of our [51:01] God. [51:03] Leave. Leave. Get out of there. Touch no [51:08] unclean thing. Go out of her midst. [51:10] Purify yourselves, you who carry the [51:13] vessels [51:15] of Adonai. [51:17] For you will not go out in haste, [51:21] nor you nor will you go in flight. [51:25] For Adon and I will go before you, [51:29] >> and the God of Israel will be your rear [51:32] guard. [51:34] >> Amen. [51:48] [snorts] [51:51] >> The blessing between readings. for [52:18] Amen. [52:21] The apostolic reading for today comes [52:23] from Matthew 3:es 1-17. [52:30] In those days, John the Immerser came [52:33] proclaiming in the wilderness of Judea, [52:36] "Turn away from your sins, for the [52:38] kingdom of heaven is near. For he is the [52:41] one Isaiah the prophet spoke about, [52:43] saying, "The voice of one crying in the [52:46] wilderness, prepare the way of Adonai, [52:48] and make his path straight." [52:51] Now John wore clothing from camels [52:53] hair and a leather belt around his [52:55] waist, and his food was locusts and wild [52:58] honey. [52:59] Then Jerusalem was going out to him, and [53:02] all Judea and all the region around the [53:04] Jordan, confessing their sins. They were [53:06] being immersed by him in the Jordan [53:08] River. [53:10] But when he saw many Pharisees and [53:12] Sadducees coming to his immersion, he [53:14] said to them, "You brought of vipers who [53:17] warned you to flee from the coming [53:19] wrath. Therefore, produce fruit worthy [53:22] of repentance, and do not think that you [53:24] can say to yourselves, "We have Abraham [53:27] as our father." For I tell you that from [53:29] these stones God can raise of children [53:31] for Abraham. Already the axe is laid at [53:34] the root of the trees. Therefore, every [53:37] tree that does not produce good fruit is [53:39] cut down and thrown into the fire. As [53:42] for me, I immerse you in water for [53:44] repentance, but the one who is coming [53:49] but the one coming after me is mightier [53:51] than I am. I am not worthy to carry his [53:54] sandals. He will immerse you in the [53:56] ruahesh and fire. His winnowing fork is [53:59] in his hand, and he shall clear his [54:01] threshing floor and gather his wheat [54:03] into the barn. But the chaff he shall [54:06] burn up with inextinguishable fire. [54:10] Then Yeshua came from the Galilee to [54:12] John to be immersed by him in the [54:14] Jordan. But John tried to prevent him, [54:16] saying, I need to be immersed by you, [54:18] and you are coming to me. [54:24] But Yeshua responded, "Let it happen [54:26] now, for in this way it is fitting for [54:29] us to fulfill all righteousness." So [54:31] John yielded to him. After being [54:34] immersed, Yeshua rose rose up out of the [54:37] water. And behold, the heavens were open [54:39] to him. And he saw the Ruak Elohim [54:41] descending like a dove and coming upon [54:43] him. And behold, a voice from the [54:46] heavens said, "This is my son whom I [54:49] love. With him I am well pleased." [54:55] The blessing after the final reading. [54:59] [singing] [55:00] for [55:25] mechu. [55:27] Amen. [55:30] Hook time. [56:01] Are you [56:12] there? [66:01] And he shall [singing] reign over all [66:03] the earth. He shall reign [singing] over [66:07] all the earth. He shall reign over all [66:12] the earth. He shall reign over [69:06] [singing] all the earth. resurrection [69:11] all the earth. He will not judge with [69:14] the sight [singing] of his eyes, nor [69:17] decide with the hearing [music] of his [69:19] ears, but with [singing] righteousness [69:22] judge the [music] poor and decide with [69:26] fairness for the meek. [69:28] And he shall reign [singing] over all [69:31] the earth. He shall reign. [69:37] He shall reign over all the earth. He [69:40] shall reign [69:43] the earth. He shall gather the outcasts [69:46] [singing] of Israel. [69:48] The dispersed [music] of Judah from the [69:51] earth. He shall stand as it is for the [69:55] people. [77:42] It never [music] [77:45] fails. [77:56] [music] [78:08] >> [music] [78:13] >> We delight in your love, oh Lord. [78:17] [singing] [78:20] Love that [78:22] fails. [78:26] Be a light in your love. Oh Lord, [78:32] it's love [78:35] fail. [78:42] Oh Lord, [singing] [78:47] the king [singing] is in the field [78:51] and he's looking [music] for those he [78:55] loves. [78:57] Oh yes, the king is in [singing] the [79:00] field [79:03] and he's seeking those he loves [79:08] [singing] [79:09] to lavish love upon them. [79:15] He loves [singing] [79:17] us [79:20] to [music] lavish love upon us. [79:23] [singing] [79:26] [music] Oh, for he loves [singing] us. [79:30] He's come to meet with [singing] us. [79:37] [music] [79:56] >> [music] [80:07] [music] [80:13] [music] [80:25] >> I love you, Lord. [music] [80:29] Oh, [singing] your mercy never fails me. [80:41] From the moment [singing] that I wake up [80:45] till I lay my head, [singing] [80:49] I will sing of the [singing] goodness of [80:54] God. I love you, Lord. [80:56] >> I love you, Lord. [81:00] Oh, your [singing] mercy never fails. [81:06] All my days have been [singing] held in [81:10] your [music] hands. [81:12] From the moment that [singing] I wake [81:15] up, [81:16] I lay my head. [81:20] I will [singing] sing of the goodness of [81:24] God. [music] [81:29] All my [singing] life you have been [81:31] faithful. [81:34] >> [music] [81:36] >> All [singing] my life you have been so [81:39] so good. [81:42] With [singing] every breath that I am [81:45] able, [81:47] I will sing [singing] [81:49] of the gladness of God. [81:54] I love your [singing and music] voice. [81:58] You have led me through [singing] the [82:00] fire [82:02] in darkest [music] [82:03] night. You are close like no other. [82:07] [singing] [82:09] Known you as a father. [82:12] I've known you as a friend. [singing] [82:16] I have lived in the goodness of God. [82:22] [singing] [82:24] All my life you have been faithful. [82:27] [singing] [82:28] [music] [82:31] All my life you have been so [singing] [82:34] so good. [82:37] With every breath that I am [singing] [82:40] able. [82:42] I [music] will sing of your goodness of [82:46] God. [82:48] [singing] [82:50] Your goodness is running after. is [82:53] running after me. [82:56] Your [singing and music] goodness is [82:57] running after it's running after me. My [83:02] life laid [singing] down with surrender [83:04] now. I give you everything. [83:08] Your [music and singing] goodness is [83:10] running after. It's running after me. [83:19] [singing and music] [83:24] >> [singing] [83:27] [music] [83:28] >> I need to be [83:34] [singing and music] [83:41] [singing and music] [83:47] my [singing] [83:49] How [83:50] >> [music] [83:53] >> They have to [83:55] Jesus. [singing] [84:02] [singing] [84:11] foreign. [84:13] [singing] [84:19] [singing] [84:33] [singing] [84:36] Your [music] goodness is running after [84:38] is running after me. [84:42] Your goodness is running after. It's [84:44] [singing] running after me. [84:47] My life down is running [singing] now. [84:51] Give you every day. [84:53] [music] Your goodness is running after. [84:57] It's running after me. [singing] [85:02] All my life. You have been faithful. [85:08] All my life [singing] you have been so [85:11] so kind. [85:14] With every breath that I am able, [85:19] [singing] I will sing of the goodness of [85:23] God. [85:25] [singing] [85:27] All my life you have been faithful. [85:30] [music] [85:33] All [singing] my life you have been so [85:36] so good. [85:39] With every breath that I have made, [85:43] [singing] [85:44] I will sing of the goodness of God. [85:50] I will sing of the goodness [85:53] [music and singing] [85:54] of God [85:56] because [85:58] your goodness is [singing] running [86:00] after. It's running after me. [86:05] Your goodness is running after is [86:08] [singing] running after me. With my life [86:12] laid down, I'm surrendered now. I give [86:15] you everything. [86:19] Your [music and singing] goodness is [86:20] running after. It's running after me. [86:25] [singing and music] Yes. Your goodness [86:28] is running after. It's running after [86:31] [singing] me. Lord, your goodness [86:34] Your goodness is running after. It's [86:37] running [singing] after me. [86:41] Your goodness is running after. It's [86:45] running after [86:47] you. [singing] [87:39] Oh man. [87:41] Does anyone have anything they'd like to [87:45] share? [87:47] Testimony, [87:50] exhortation. [88:00] >> Somebody's giving hand signals. [88:05] >> All right. [88:12] Um, this is uh [88:17] I was just thinking of um [88:22] um how do I say um [88:27] not sure if it's the simplicity of of of [88:31] being a a child and and having a father, [88:34] but sometimes uh is um [88:40] um being able to remember that we are um [88:45] his children and that [88:48] um we are his um beloved and that [88:54] um I can't remember the the thing on [88:58] scriptures I am my beloved and he is [89:01] he's mine um yeah so just just uh to [89:06] keep that in perspective to know that we [89:10] are his children and that we have a [89:12] father [89:14] you know that we are his children [89:22] >> John did you say that about the month of [89:26] >> I'm thinking about it [89:27] >> I just wanted to ask [89:33] >> said this but I was distract distracted [89:35] that you brought up I am my beloved and [89:37] he is mine. And the month of Elul [89:41] um is spelled out. It's an acronym of [89:44] that phrase in Hebrew. I am my beloved [89:47] and he is mine. So that's really [89:49] appropriate that you shared that. [89:52] >> Wow. Amen. [89:55] John, [90:06] >> that song, the goodness of God, always [90:08] brings it to you. I feel like crying [90:10] sometimes when I when you sing that [90:12] song. But the goodness of God, even when [90:14] we were as little children, physically [90:17] little children, he had he has his hand [90:20] on his own. And uh I can remember going [90:24] to church, you know, I don't know, 5 [90:27] years old, 6 years old, and uh [90:32] my parents used to give us a couple [90:34] coins to to put in the thing. And uh [90:39] we'd stop off before we went to church [90:42] to the candy store. And unfortunately, [90:45] we we'd buy a piece of candy and then [90:48] then go to church. And and you know as [90:51] the father he gives you the good things. [90:54] He guides you. He trains you. He guides [90:56] you as earthly fathers do too. But not [91:00] it's a different kind of way [91:03] to uh train person. But God puts his [91:06] hand upon us. Yeshua [91:10] is the man. He's the God man. He he [91:13] tells us in his word and thank God for [91:15] his word [91:18] written in our language [91:20] because otherwise we really wouldn't [91:23] know who God is. And uh the Holy Spirit [91:27] the Ruka Cadesh guides us through all [91:30] things and uh even when we're old he [91:34] still guides us with compassion and love [91:37] as a father does his child. [91:39] >> Amen. [91:40] >> Amen. [91:54] even when we're old. [91:56] >> That's right. [92:02] >> Yeah. In some ways, [92:05] um, [92:11] in some ways it's Oh, [92:15] yes, sir. Come on up. [92:21] You can take all the rest of the time if [92:23] you like. [laughter] [92:35] I was just thinking as I got here this [92:37] morning that um [92:42] well about the difference between [92:45] when I [92:48] do what I need to do and make the [92:50] choices I need to to make to be able to [92:55] um [92:58] be the best version into myself and be [93:00] more like Yeshua and do what God wants [93:02] me to do and when I don't. Specifically, [93:05] I was thinking about how I chose to do [93:10] something this morning to take care of [93:12] myself and that made it easier for me to [93:15] [clears throat] choose to be a calm, [93:18] compassionate, and [93:21] peaceful and loving parent. [93:24] And I was thinking when I got here, [93:28] the things that I did really were not [93:31] that difficult to do. [93:34] The hard part was just making the choice [93:36] to actually choose to do them. [93:41] >> And every day that goes by, we all make [93:45] choices [93:47] not to do the things that would benefit [93:49] us and choose to do things that don't. [93:52] >> Right? And the things that [93:56] would be better and would be God's best [93:58] for us are almost never actually that [94:02] hard to do. [94:05] >> The challenge is to choose to do them, [94:07] >> right? [94:09] >> So, I'm encouraged that when I make [94:12] those choices, [94:13] >> things are better. And God blesses that. [94:16] And I encourage you to consider what you [94:19] might choose differently [94:24] today, tomorrow, as you go through the [94:25] week. And also just to think about [94:30] freeing yourself from this burden of, [94:32] oh, I have to do all this stuff. No, [94:34] just make a choice. [94:35] >> Every moment it's just a choice. [94:38] >> Amen. [94:39] >> Amen. [94:40] >> Can I add a follow up to that one, too? [94:42] >> Yeah. Take all the rest of the time I [94:44] feel like. [laughter] [94:46] I'm not getting off that. [94:49] >> I'm not going to get up. [laughter] [94:54] >> Well, some of you um may or may not be [94:57] reading about the month of Alo being the [95:00] time when the king is in the field. You [95:03] know, kings um generally would sit in [95:05] their high palaces uh their ivory towers [95:09] kind of like college professors, you [95:11] know. But um the month of Elul, they're [95:14] out in the field and they're not out in [95:17] the field for battle. They're out in the [95:20] field to get to know their people. [95:23] You know, that's what a king does. He [95:25] has to spend some time getting to know [95:28] his people. And God's just been really [95:31] impressing that upon me. And so Noah [95:34] what you shared brought that to mind um [95:38] as he was also bringing it to mind [95:41] during the worship that um the king the [95:46] king [95:47] the king king of kings lord of lords [95:51] right he is out in the field [95:57] and we don't have a timeline on that [96:00] he's not going to ever not be out in in [96:02] the field. [96:04] You know, it's his heart's desire [96:08] to know us [96:11] and to be known [96:15] and to have us experience what it's like [96:17] to know what it's like to be known. You [96:20] know, some of you know that like if you [96:22] have a relationship with someone, a [96:24] spouse or a good friend or um something [96:26] where you just know that they know you [96:29] and you have those precious moments like [96:32] once I related a story to a friend um [96:37] about how growing up [96:41] when children played marbles in the in [96:43] the schoolyard, elementary school, I was [96:47] usually not part of those games. I was [96:50] kind of shut out. Part of it was due to [96:52] physical disability and not being able [96:54] to really get down and play with them, [96:56] but the rest had to do with um things [96:58] like who my sister was and family stuff [97:01] that had um preceded my presence there. [97:05] And um so I was just sharing about that [97:09] and it had come up in the context of [97:12] finding a marble on the playground I [97:14] think and talking about playing marbles [97:16] as kids. And then the next time I saw [97:20] this friend, [97:22] he gave me a package and it wasn't my [97:25] birthday. It wasn't anything. It was [97:26] just a gift. And it was one of those [97:29] cool gifts where you unwrap and then [97:31] there's another layer and then there's a [97:32] box and another layer. And it got all [97:35] the way down to it. And you know what [97:37] was in it? [97:38] >> Marble. [97:39] >> A marble. [97:40] >> Wow. [97:41] >> And the the kind of marble that you you [97:44] want, you know, the treasured marble. [97:47] And so that was a moment of just like [97:50] being known by somebody in a very [97:53] unexpected way, right? [97:56] >> Like using common lingo now, I felt [98:00] seen, right? [98:03] So I really think the king is in the [98:08] field and he's giving us this month of [98:11] Elul to pay attention to that reality [98:15] to go what was it like for the people of [98:18] Israel when the kings would go out in [98:21] the field and know them? Like how well [98:24] can you get to know millions of people [98:29] in one month? That's kind of hard, [98:31] right? [98:33] But at least he was out there. And how [98:37] approachable do you think the kings were [98:39] of Israel when they went out in the [98:41] field? How would you have felt [98:43] approaching the king? [98:47] You know, you'd have to push through the [98:48] masses and then you'd feel like, well, [98:50] who am I to do that, right? [98:53] And I was thinking about how different [98:55] that was from when Yeshua, [98:58] the king, [99:00] was out in the field and the masses were [99:03] clamoring for him to touch him, you [99:08] know, the woman with an issue of blood [99:10] knowing that if I just touch his seat [99:12] seat, that's all I have to do. I'm going [99:14] to be healed. [99:16] Right? [99:18] And so what Noah was saying about um [99:21] accessing some kind of self-care, and [99:23] I'm not going to presume to know what it [99:26] was, made me think of how we can start [99:31] every day [99:33] accessing the King of Kings [99:36] and starting the day with being known [99:40] and being known by someone who's so [99:42] perfect that no matter how horrifically [99:46] terrible we are, [99:48] We can be honest about it and he says, [99:50] "I love you. [99:53] I love you. Don't do that again." But I [99:57] love you. Right?
[100:00] And when we are going about our day and
[100:02] we make some horrifically bad choice
[100:05] because be honest people, we will make
[100:08] in hindsight pretty horrifically bad
[100:11] choices
[100:13] and we will immediately feel shame
[100:16] and we will immediately try to hide from
[100:20] the king who is in the field. Think of
[100:24] Eden and God. When Adam and Eve
[100:29] sinned and felt shame, the first thing
[100:32] they did is try to hide from the king
[100:35] who was in the field with them, who used
[100:40] to walk with them.
[100:44] So, I'm encouraging us all, let's not
[100:48] try to hide from the king who's in the
[100:51] field.
[100:53] Do you really think you can hide from
[100:55] him anyhow?
[100:57] Do you think you can hide your stuff
[101:00] under fancy lingo? You know, we have a
[101:03] world out there. Some of it is good, but
[101:07] much of it is being corrupted more and
[101:09] more and more that gives us
[101:11] justifications for our bad behavior and
[101:15] even worse, justifications for hiding.
[101:19] You know, the opposite of scripture.
[101:22] Scripture says connect.
[101:25] Somebody irks you, somebody treats you
[101:28] badly, what are you supposed to do? Run
[101:30] away from them? Go no contact because
[101:34] you've been traumatized?
[101:36] No. Matthew 18 says, "Go to him.
[101:41] Go to him and say, this is what
[101:43] happened, and if he listens to you,
[101:45] you've won your brother.
[101:48] And if he doesn't listen, well, take two
[101:50] other people with you. And if he still
[101:53] doesn't listen to you, then we obviously
[101:56] begin to know that it's their problem,
[101:59] not yours. And you tell it to the whole
[102:01] church. And you treat them as a tax
[102:04] collector,
[102:06] right?
[102:08] So the whole pattern of scripture is
[102:12] about relationship
[102:14] and connection.
[102:17] And the whole pattern of the world right
[102:19] now is about disconnection.
[102:23] Things that come in and separate
[102:26] families over politics,
[102:30] right? Used to be there three things you
[102:32] don't talk about at the dinner table,
[102:34] you know, and politics was one of them.
[102:37] And now everybody talks about politics
[102:39] and they they get angry with one
[102:41] another.
[102:44] If you don't have exactly the same point
[102:46] of view,
[102:48] we have um a whole psychological field
[102:51] telling people that if you don't like
[102:54] what Uncle Fred does at Thanksgiving
[102:58] dinners, well, you should just go no
[103:00] contact with Uncle Fred. Never have a
[103:02] Thanksgiving dinner. Like what? You
[103:05] can't fight about the thermostat
[103:06] anymore, whether it should be high or
[103:08] low. You know, I grew up, I remember
[103:10] Thanksgivings with my mother and her
[103:12] brother fighting over the thermostat. He
[103:15] wanted it one way, she wanted it the
[103:17] other.
[103:20] But that isn't a reason for disrupting
[103:23] and breaking the relationship.
[103:26] Scripture says that iron man uh iron
[103:30] sharpens iron like one man sharpens
[103:32] another. And you can't sharpen each
[103:35] other if you're not in contact. Right?
[103:40] And we are so afraid.
[103:44] We're so afraid of being told we messed
[103:47] up in some way that we hide and we build
[103:51] high castles,
[103:54] right? So it can't be touched and then
[103:56] we don't get the balm of healing.
[104:01] So this month of alul
[104:04] we have as a time for selfreflection
[104:08] not self- condemnation
[104:11] not selfjudgment
[104:15] not presuming
[104:17] what other people might think or what
[104:19] they might do. Not presuming what God
[104:22] thinks or might do except for what's
[104:24] clear in his word.
[104:27] We have a whole month to self-reflect
[104:29] and go,
[104:31] where am I running away from people?
[104:34] Where am I running away from myself?
[104:38] Where am I just running too hard and I'm
[104:40] not taking care of myself and that's why
[104:42] I keep running into issues with people?
[104:45] Really good point no made.
[104:48] You know, it's the the airline thing
[104:50] when you lose cabin pressure. says, "Put
[104:52] your own mask on before you try to help
[104:55] other people." Right? If we don't take
[104:57] proper care of ourselves,
[105:00] we aren't going to be any good. And then
[105:03] we can join the whole self-care thing
[105:05] that the world's version of is
[105:07] selfishness.
[105:09] Selfishness, ungratefulness,
[105:11] everything's about me.
[105:14] But everything is really about the king
[105:18] in the field.
[105:21] the king in the field and he gives us a
[105:23] guide book for how we decide what's
[105:27] wrong and what's not wrong. We're not
[105:29] supposed to easily take up an offense
[105:31] cuz just by because you're offended
[105:33] doesn't mean your brother even sinned
[105:35] against you, right? You know, sometimes
[105:38] somebody says something and you think it
[105:40] meant something and you were just
[105:42] completely wrong. I had an incident with
[105:45] my husband once when my sister was
[105:47] visiting and uh he made a certain face
[105:51] with his lips when he after he said
[105:54] something and I got all defensive on
[105:57] behalf of my sister
[106:00] and he wasn't thinking or doing what I
[106:02] thought he was thinking or doing. And
[106:04] then the Lord showed me, "Oh, my mother
[106:08] used to make that face
[106:11] when she was about to attack my sister
[106:15] verbally or make some kind of judgment."
[106:17] And so my I just responded the way I
[106:20] normally did, but it wasn't that at all.
[106:24] Right?
[106:27] So, we need to kind of like get out of
[106:30] our own heads in terms of judging
[106:35] everything out there
[106:37] and instead get into our own heads by
[106:40] asking the Lord, "Search me, oh Lord,
[106:42] and see if there be any hurtful way in
[106:45] me. anything that's causing me to
[106:47] stumble,
[106:49] any habits maybe that aren't helpful for
[106:52] me, any ways I'm misinterpreting
[106:55] relationships that aren't helpful to me.
[106:58] And mostly, Lord, show me where am I
[107:02] hiding.
[107:04] Where am I hiding,
[107:08] Billy? Show me where I'm hiding because
[107:11] I think that I'm so close to you.
[107:15] And yet I'm hiding.
[107:20] So let's go out this month and meet the
[107:25] king who's in the field.
[107:28] Be known by him. Experience what it's
[107:31] like to be known by him and bring that
[107:34] into our relationships with each other.
[107:52] Sorry, you still have half an hour left.
[108:00] Boy, John, you're pretty rough.
[108:03] [laughter]
[108:05] You're not going to get off that easy.
[108:09] Well, um,
[108:13] well, I'll tell you a secret if if you,
[108:16] if you don't already know, if you know,
[108:18] I guess it's not a secret.
[108:21] Um,
[108:23] it it's really easy for me to stand up
[108:25] and talk for an hour. I can do it
[108:27] without having anything to say.
[108:30] And [clears throat] um
[108:33] that that uh that should be a kind of a
[108:37] constant concern for me.
[108:41] Um because if you know you may have
[108:44] noticed the world is full of words
[108:46] [clears throat] like it's just like it's
[108:48] every everywhere. I mean it's just all
[108:50] kinds of stuff being said.
[108:54] And um
[108:58] I've noticed there are an awful lot of
[109:01] people
[109:04] that can pontificate
[109:08] [snorts]
[109:09] on and on and on and then they'll do it
[109:12] the next day. A lot of them put it in
[109:14] print.
[109:16] They I guess they put it on this a and
[109:20] that a gram and
[109:24] Tweetamatic whatever and Facebook. I
[109:27] don't even know what all of those things
[109:29] are. I know what some of them are. Um
[109:35] but um yeah, it's it's
[109:40] it's easy to talk. I have so I have some
[109:43] thoughts
[109:44] that were generated by things that
[109:48] people said.
[109:50] Um
[109:52] I may not recall them all now.
[109:56] And in no particular order,
[109:59] you know, I kind of love the the my my
[110:02] wife referred to a passage where, you
[110:04] know, after you confront someone, you
[110:06] know, let them be like as a tax gather
[110:09] or depending on the translation, a
[110:12] gentile. Oh, man. A gentile. Um,
[110:17] so
[110:20] what what what does that mean? How are
[110:22] you supposed to be towards a I I always
[110:24] like to say an IRS
[110:27] man. Um
[110:30] knew a very mousy one in War in
[110:32] Minnesota where I went to junior high in
[110:34] high school. Um he actually carried a
[110:38] pistol.
[110:41] >> Um I doubt if he ever pulled it out. I
[110:44] wonder if he even ever shot it. I don't
[110:46] I mean I'm assuming it was loaded.
[110:49] [laughter]
[110:50] I only know because his son who's a good
[110:52] friend of mine told me that he carried a
[110:56] pistol. But um but how how are we
[111:00] supposed to treat the tax collector
[111:03] or
[111:06] whatever gentile means?
[111:08] Sometimes it means pagan actually in in
[111:11] context. How how are we supposed to
[111:14] treat them?
[111:17] to me with them respectfully,
[111:19] respectfully.
[111:20] >> Speak the truth and love.
[111:25] >> Yeah. I mean, well, I mean, Yeshua chose
[111:27] one of them to be one of his closest 12
[111:30] disciples. [laughter]
[111:33] He uh I guess he retired from collecting
[111:37] taxes. I mean, it was a really bad thing
[111:39] to be in the first century in in
[111:42] [clears throat]
[111:42] Israel. It was hor It was a horrible
[111:44] thing to be.
[111:47] And the tax collectors, at least when
[111:50] they started, they knew it. Some of them
[111:52] could have forgotten. I don't know.
[111:55] They uh they abused their people. They
[111:58] they got rich
[112:02] and they were working for the enemy.
[112:05] Um and so Yeshua comes along and chooses
[112:08] one of them to be one of his closest 12
[112:11] disciples.
[112:14] And then gentile um
[112:18] um you know there's that let's see who
[112:20] was that woman at the well. What was
[112:23] she?
[112:24] >> She was a Samaritan.
[112:26] >> Was she a Samaritan?
[112:31] >> Somebody look it up because I I always
[112:34] remember it as a Samaritan woman.
[112:36] >> The one who had
[112:37] >> Oh yeah. Yeah. But wait, was there
[112:39] another one though? I think there was
[112:43] >> now I'm I'm I may be superimposing a
[112:46] couple of things. I do that sometimes.
[112:51] >> What? Yeah. Yeah.
[112:53] >> And well, anyway, um the Samaritans
[112:56] weren't well thought of by the Jews. I
[112:59] mean, some of us might if we study them,
[113:01] we might start asking, well, why why
[113:04] weren't they why aren't they Jews?
[113:07] I I'm not even about to try to get into
[113:10] that.
[113:11] But at any rate, um,
[113:14] you know, this is somebody is I mean,
[113:16] his disciples were mystified that he was
[113:19] even talking to a woman, I guess,
[113:22] and let alone this one.
[113:26] And so, um, I mean, from their
[113:28] perspective, regardless of what you
[113:30] might think when you think about
[113:31] Samaritans, they were thought of as half
[113:33] breeds. I mean, that's worse than a
[113:34] gentile, I guess, right? Because in a
[113:37] society that calls people half breeds,
[113:41] calling someone a half breed means that
[113:44] that
[113:45] they don't belong. They don't fit any
[113:47] place actually.
[113:49] It's like it's like the worst thing you
[113:51] could be is a half breed. You're not
[113:53] half of this and half of that and you're
[113:55] not going to be accepted by that half or
[113:57] that half.
[113:58] So what do you do? cut yourself in half
[114:01] and you know the half from one side goes
[114:04] there and you know you can't do that.
[114:07] But he um he was um
[114:11] resoundingly
[114:13] kind and compassionate
[114:17] and uh and he didn't shame her
[114:23] when he asked a question that could have
[114:26] been thought of as a pointed question.
[114:28] Well, she could have answered it any way
[114:30] she wanted, but she answered honestly
[114:32] and he just said, "Yeah, that's honest."
[114:35] And then he said something else. But she
[114:38] wasn't threatened. She wasn't shamed.
[114:44] She was she was actually,
[114:49] set free.
[114:53] She found she found redemption there.
[114:56] The one who had something to draw with,
[114:59] redeemed by the one that
[115:02] said he was thirsty
[115:05] and didn't have anything to draw with,
[115:08] but at the same time said that he had
[115:10] water to offer.
[115:12] You know, ironic, huh?
[115:16] Did he end up getting a drink?
[115:22] [laughter]
[115:25] >> In the end, it was not the most
[115:27] important thing whether he got a drink
[115:29] right then or not, I guess. Right.
[115:32] So anyway, um
[115:36] um
[115:42] when I um when Noak mentioned,
[115:48] I mean this has a lot to do with all
[115:50] kinds of other things. I was thinking,
[115:53] but um best best version of yourself or
[115:57] myself, you know, that phrase comes up a
[116:00] lot. Yeah.
[116:02] >> And I I mean I guess maybe I think of it
[116:06] sometimes with respect to myself. I mean
[116:08] you don't have to phrase it that way to
[116:10] be thinking about it, right? If you're
[116:12] thinking about what you think about
[116:15] yourself and you know that you'd like to
[116:17] be different or you wish you were
[116:19] different or hopefully you don't wish
[116:21] you were someone else. Um I guess that's
[116:24] what you're thinking of. You might be
[116:26] thinking about I'm I'm a bad version.
[116:29] this is what I am. I wish I could be
[116:31] better, but I'm this is I'm stuck. Yeah.
[116:34] I mean, you could be thinking that, but
[116:37] um I love to say tell you a mystery.
[116:42] So, I tell you a mystery. There's not a
[116:45] one of us that knows what the best
[116:46] version of oursel is.
[116:48] >> Yeah.
[116:50] >> We really don't know. And and actually I
[116:53] think when we when we think about it
[116:55] especially if we go alone thinking about
[116:58] it which we're want to do
[117:02] we will imagine a version of ourself
[117:04] that may not be all that great of a
[117:06] version may be one that we can never be.
[117:12] Um but um
[117:18] the the one that is the best
[117:22] if it were revealed to us in its
[117:25] totality like all at once.
[117:29] I'm not so sure that a lot of us
[117:31] wouldn't reject it.
[117:33] >> Yeah.
[117:35] because we don't actually necessarily
[117:38] want to be the best version of the
[117:41] person God made us to be. I mean, I know
[117:44] that well because of different
[117:46] experiences in my life, but it's not bad
[117:50] news that we don't know what the best
[117:52] version of oursel is. I think it's
[117:55] actually good news. God knows what the
[117:57] best version of us would be. And the
[118:00] best version of us is probably one
[118:06] that ends up accepting
[118:09] weakness.
[118:13] And by weakness, I don't mean blatant
[118:17] character flaws. We shouldn't accept
[118:20] those
[118:22] because character flaws are not who we
[118:26] are.
[118:28] They may be something we have, but
[118:30] they're not who we are. They aren't what
[118:32] we are, nor are our sins what we are.
[118:38] They're they're facts.
[118:41] They're particulars, but they aren't who
[118:43] we are or what we are.
[118:46] So
[118:49] um
[118:51] during this month of a low and which day
[118:56] of a lull is it now?
[119:00] >> Second
[119:02] >> Thursday.
[119:03] >> Second because it was Thursday night
[119:05] then Friday night. So we're second day.
[119:10] >> Some are saying two. Did someone say
[119:12] three?
[119:13] >> So when did it actually start?
[119:16] Thursday night.
[119:18] >> Thursday night.
[119:20] It always starts in the evening.
[119:22] Everything starts in the evening. But
[119:24] that's not the way we talk in in
[119:26] America, right?
[119:28] Um
[119:31] so yeah. So today is the second of the
[119:33] law.
[119:34] >> Yeah.
[119:35] >> Already the second of the law.
[119:39] Um
[119:45] I said I said too much there about that
[119:48] and forgot where I was going.
[119:50] [clears throat]
[119:52] I am going to mention then since since I
[119:54] forgot
[119:56] um I want to encourage you all to
[119:59] express gratitude
[120:02] every day.
[120:04] If you could do it for 15 minutes
[120:06] straight every day, it would be really
[120:08] great. You'd probably notice that it
[120:12] changes
[120:14] you.
[120:16] Um I don't know. I I can't even remember
[120:19] right off hand. The the
[120:23] what what is the morning prayer called?
[120:25] The first one.
[120:26] >> Um well, either modi or modi.
[120:30] >> Yeah. that.
[120:32] >> Um,
[120:33] now I don't always do that. I I may do
[120:36] one thing or another, but for some
[120:37] reason the last two or three days
[120:41] I it might have been slightly truncated,
[120:43] but I just woke up and and thank thank
[120:47] you Lord for returning my soul within
[120:51] me. Last night I had bad dreams.
[120:55] I woke up a few times and then I had
[120:58] them again. I don't remember what they
[121:00] were. But when I woke up this morning, I
[121:03] said, "Thank you, Lord, for returning my
[121:05] soul within me before I put my feet on
[121:07] the floor."
[121:09] And uh and then, you know, forgive me,
[121:13] but the first thing I do after my feet
[121:16] on the floor are on the floor usually is
[121:18] start to coffee.
[121:21] Have have to do that.
[121:24] And and by the way, I'm I'm grieving.
[121:28] You can grieve with me.
[121:31] I I set my favorite coffee mug,
[121:37] porcelain, 16 oz,
[121:40] tall one,
[121:43] on on a sill,
[121:46] and went to reach for something and fell
[121:48] onto the blue stone and broke.
[121:52] And
[121:54] that mug always reminded me of someone
[121:58] who it once belonged to. And that that's
[122:02] even worse.
[122:04] And but and I always remember my mom
[122:08] breaking one of things she really liked
[122:11] and saying,
[122:14] "Oh yes,
[122:17] >> this is burned into my gray matter.
[122:21] And then she picked up the pieces.
[122:23] [laughter]
[122:26] Anyway, so to add insult to injury or
[122:31] one mug loss to another
[122:35] yesterday,
[122:36] the day I think a day after I broke my
[122:40] the mug that I usually use,
[122:43] I I was going into the garden. I don't
[122:46] know if I was putting mulch in. my wife
[122:48] mode and she was begging the grass and
[122:51] but
[122:54] I I turned a little bit and then I heard
[122:56] the sound of something
[122:59] shattering
[123:01] and I looked on the other mug that I use
[123:04] when I'm not using that one. I left it
[123:06] on top of a fence post
[123:10] >> and I knocked it off because I wasn't
[123:13] even thinking it was there. [laughter]
[123:15] And I I mean I I got
[123:18] almost kind of a talk a lot [laughter]
[123:20] of
[123:22] it's like you know
[123:26] Hill said pay attention to where you set
[123:30] your coffee mug.
[123:33] Um
[123:35] I guess in both cases I'd have to say
[123:37] well wouldn't have needed to happen if I
[123:40] just done something differently. But um
[123:44] I'm thankful
[123:46] for the memories of the person whose mug
[123:50] that was
[123:52] and I and as long as I'm expressing
[123:54] gratitude, I'm going to say um I'm
[123:58] thankful that I can sit down
[124:02] >> now. It's the strangest thing, right?
[124:06] Things you've been able to do your whole
[124:07] life without thinking about. It's likely
[124:09] you never even thought about being
[124:11] thankful for them or expressing it.
[124:15] But if something happens and for a long
[124:17] time you can't sit down because it hurts
[124:19] too much, it's just possible that you
[124:22] might appreciate being able to sit down
[124:24] so much that you actually thank God for
[124:27] it. And then and then that applies to
[124:30] like a zillion other things.
[124:34] Um,
[124:35] so
[124:39] I just I really want to encourage you to
[124:42] just actually express gratitude to the
[124:45] Lord for
[124:47] >> everything that you realize is a good
[124:49] thing.
[124:52] You can do it as you're realizing it, as
[124:55] you're using it, as you're receiving it,
[124:57] or you can list them all at once.
[125:01] But um
[125:04] gratitude
[125:06] is mentioned a fair bit in the
[125:09] scriptures and it it is transformative
[125:13] and not being grateful is also
[125:16] transformative.
[125:18] >> It will it will make you a worse version
[125:23] of yourself.
[125:27] And truly being grateful will make you a
[125:31] better one.
[125:33] Um,
[125:34] so
[125:36] okay, let's see.
[125:40] Um,
[125:48] Lord, I just I ask you to pour your
[125:51] blessing on every person here. And I ask
[125:54] you to pour the blessing
[125:58] of revealing
[126:01] all of the blessings you poured upon
[126:05] each one here, including me.
[126:08] open our eyes to see
[126:12] the blessings
[126:14] of life, the good things that come from
[126:16] you,
[126:19] the um
[126:21] security that's found in you.
[126:25] That we would be thankful and able to
[126:28] enjoy simple things.
[126:32] That being able to enjoy simple things
[126:35] would become a feast.
[126:38] and that it would quench our cravings
[126:42] for
[126:43] other things, things we may not need and
[126:47] things that we that may actually not
[126:51] even be good for us.
[126:53] Just um [snorts]
[126:56] reveal your
[126:58] heart towards us, your blessings and the
[127:01] fact that you are the father of every
[127:05] good thing.
[127:09] And um just make this time we spend
[127:12] together
[127:14] a blessing to your own heart and a
[127:18] blessing to us all in Yeshua's name.
[127:23] >> Amen.
[127:24] >> So um
[127:29] I had a few little things I'm going to
[127:34] >> just for the fun of it.
[127:39] um this is
[127:43] in a part
[127:46] that's called conduct and manners in
[127:49] this little book about the witten wisdom
[127:51] of the Talmud.
[127:54] He who pers upon his conduct brings much
[127:59] good to himself or herself.
[128:03] What do you think?
[128:06] be in the habit of receiving every man
[128:08] with a pleasant countenance.
[128:14] Some of you are really good at that. I
[128:16] think
[128:18] some of us
[128:20] maybe need a little work. I'm not sure.
[128:23] Um, I've noticed that I have a face
[128:29] and what my wife shared reminded me of a
[128:33] story about my brother Mark's face
[128:37] >> where he finally snapped during the
[128:40] brief space of time he was in the US
[128:43] Navy. It was very brief.
[128:46] And it's an amazing miracle that he got
[128:50] out.
[128:53] because he really shouldn't have joined.
[128:56] It's a long story. I think he tried
[128:59] acting crazy.
[129:02] I don't remember exactly how it worked,
[129:04] but anyway, he was told by, you know,
[129:08] the drill sergeant or whatever they call
[129:10] him to wipe that smirk off his face when
[129:14] everyone was standing at attention. And
[129:17] he just started to boil.
[129:21] And he yelled at that guy and said,
[129:25] "All my life,
[129:28] I've told you this before. People have
[129:30] been telling me to wipe that smirk off
[129:33] my face."
[129:35] He said, "This is [clears throat] my
[129:37] face."
[129:39] And
[129:41] and for the first time in all of
[129:43] history,
[129:45] that nasty drill sergeant guy just went
[129:49] on to [clears throat] the next person
[129:50] and didn't say a word. Didn't make him
[129:54] do 182 push-ups and run 500 laps or he
[130:00] just
[130:02] he had a revelation.
[130:05] That's his face. [laughter]
[130:08] And [clears throat] and anyway, I've
[130:10] realized I myself have a face.
[130:15] And
[130:17] it can be frustrating to me that
[130:20] apparently my face doesn't look the way
[130:23] I either think it does or perhaps the
[130:25] way it should or that it's interpreted
[130:28] as
[130:30] one thing or another by this person or
[130:33] that person. But I I'm I just in my own
[130:38] I'm just going to say this is my face.
[130:41] [laughter]
[130:45] But [snorts]
[130:46] but
[130:48] we can work on our countenance and what
[130:51] we look like. We actually can. It it is
[130:55] possible to do.
[130:58] And um I'm quite aware that uh on at
[131:02] least a certain amount of the time I
[131:04] should probably pay attention to that.
[131:07] and
[131:09] choose to change it.
[131:12] Anyway, um
[131:15] so
[131:17] receive everybody with a pleasant
[131:20] countenance. Be humble to your superior,
[131:23] affable to your inferior, and meet every
[131:27] man with friendliness. That's a similar
[131:29] one,
[131:35] I would say.
[131:38] I mean the meaning may be different but
[131:40] don't think anyone of anyone as your
[131:43] inferior
[131:47] treating everybody like a superior that
[131:50] might be fine.
[131:53] Well
[131:55] within reason.
[131:58] The wiser the man the more careful
[132:01] should he be of his conduct.
[132:05] The wiser you think you are, the more
[132:07] careful you better be, how you act.
[132:08] [laughter]
[132:16] And um Hill said, "Among those who
[132:20] stand,
[132:21] do not sit. Among those who sit, do not
[132:25] stand." I think he was trying to settle
[132:27] the argument about what's the tradition
[132:29] in this place.
[132:31] >> Do we stand or sit during the Shama?
[132:36] etc.
[132:38] Among those who laugh, do not weep.
[132:42] And among those who weep, do not laugh.
[132:46] And this last one,
[132:50] great is etiquette. It is equal to the
[132:53] whole Torah. Oh man.
[132:58] Going to unpack that one.
[133:06] It's uh it makes some sense.
[133:10] So um
[133:15] anyway,
[133:18] should I get to the message?
[133:24] I've been reading Psalm 27 every day for
[133:28] a while.
[133:30] Some mornings I sing it
[133:34] and um I will just say in my own
[133:37] experiences
[133:39] sometimes I feel really lousy in the
[133:41] morning.
[133:44] As the days get shorter I have more
[133:46] mornings where I feel more lousier
[133:50] to use proper grammar.
[133:55] I don't know that I've ever decided to
[133:58] sing psalms. I just make up a tune
[134:01] and not felt better than I did before I
[134:04] did it.
[134:06] Uh but I've done this and but um
[134:11] I I once again I want to encourage you
[134:17] to pray
[134:19] and um
[134:22] I'm just going to
[134:24] [cough and clears throat]
[134:25] I'm going to read this
[134:31] which is called the Lord's Prayer.
[134:34] Have you ever heard of it?
[134:36] >> I I don't call it that myself,
[134:40] but um
[134:48] Yeshua tells his disciples that their
[134:52] father knows what they need before they
[134:56] ask.
[134:58] He knows who you are before you
[135:01] introduce yourself. He knows what you
[135:02] need.
[135:05] You may not know what you need, but he
[135:08] does. And when you pray, sometimes you
[135:10] might find out something about what you
[135:12] need. You may also find out that you
[135:15] don't need what you thought you needed.
[135:18] Um but he says pray then
[135:23] after this fashion our father
[135:26] who is in heaven
[135:30] revered respected hallowed be your name.
[135:34] Now I've been doing this often
[135:38] more days than not most days and just
[135:42] expanding on what each one of these
[135:44] things is about. And I find it just like
[135:48] opens up like a wide plateau for me. You
[135:51] could try it. You You [clears throat]
[135:54] don't need to do anything that I'm doing
[135:56] the way I'm doing it or even try. I
[135:59] wouldn't suggest that, but you could try
[136:03] it. You know, really revered be your
[136:08] name.
[136:10] And then I just started praying that his
[136:12] name would be revered. And I thought of
[136:14] all kinds of places. And I pray pray
[136:17] that it would be revered in all of those
[136:19] places. In your kingdom come, your will
[136:22] be done on earth as it is in heaven. And
[136:24] that's just expanded and expanded
[136:27] and and it reminds me it's like wow if
[136:30] I'm praying that
[136:33] the first thing the closest thing is me.
[136:39] And if I'm asking that, I'm asking
[136:45] that my head, my thoughts, my words, my
[136:49] actions, what I do, everything I have
[136:51] control over,
[136:54] responsibility for
[136:58] would be as it is in the kingdom of
[137:01] heaven, as [clears throat] it done in
[137:04] the perfection of heaven. You you could
[137:06] discourage yourself with that. But the
[137:08] thing is don't
[137:13] you we're in a process of transformation
[137:16] and it can it can grow. It can happen.
[137:21] The Lord's working on us all and he
[137:24] hasn't left us where we started. So
[137:28] ask for his kingdom to come in all of
[137:31] the earth. But then ask him perhaps how
[137:36] you can bring it and make it that way
[137:42] around you.
[137:46] And then ask for your daily needs
[137:50] because it's a great antidote against
[137:52] taking for granted that we're going to
[137:54] have everything we need and it all comes
[137:57] from him. He knows before we ask anyway.
[138:00] But we still ask
[138:04] and forgive us our sins or debts
[138:09] as we also have forgiven our debtors.
[138:14] And um
[138:17] it's a really good time
[138:21] of the year. The rest of the year is
[138:24] great time too
[138:26] >> to really ask ourselves
[138:32] If we have
[138:35] truly forgiven those
[138:38] >> that owe us a debt or that we feel owe
[138:41] us,
[138:44] maybe even ask the Lord to show us the
[138:46] difference.
[138:50] And I don't think it hurts to ask the
[138:52] Lord not to lead us into a temptation.
[138:56] He doesn't he doesn't actually entice us
[138:59] and lead us toward temptation.
[139:03] But
[139:07] Lord, please don't lead me into
[139:09] temptation. And if I'm drifting that
[139:12] way, please,
[139:13] please show me and deliver me from the
[139:16] evil.
[139:18] For yours is the kingdom and the power
[139:20] and the glory
[139:23] forever.
[139:30] So,
[139:39] in this week's after, I think it's the
[139:42] people are told to wake up, to rouse
[139:45] themselves.
[139:47] I'm just just quickly going to mention a
[139:49] couple
[139:51] other verses. In Revelation 3:2, it
[139:54] says, "Wake up and strengthen what
[139:57] remains and is about to die.
[140:04] It's good to wake up. It's good to be
[140:08] alert.
[140:14] Whatever whatever is weak,
[140:17] whatever is feeble,
[140:21] ask the Lord for strength and ask him
[140:24] for the strength to strengthen what you
[140:27] can by doing what he shows you.
[140:31] It's it's a bit similar and I know it's
[140:34] out of context the verse from
[140:35] Revelation, but
[140:38] in Hebrews 12:12 it says, "Therefore
[140:40] strengthen the hands that are weak and
[140:42] the knees that are feeble or whatever it
[140:45] is that's weak, whatever it is that's
[140:46] feeble, whether it's your emotions,
[140:48] whether it's your thoughts, whether it's
[140:51] body parts, but that's this isn't really
[140:54] about body parts in this passage.
[140:59] and make
[141:01] make it so that your path is straight.
[141:05] Make it so you're not walking crookedly.
[141:12] So that the part of you that's impaired
[141:15] won't be wrenched completely out of
[141:18] whack, but it would end up being healed.
[141:23] pursue peace with all people,
[141:26] with every last person, and holiness
[141:30] with without which nobody is going to
[141:33] see the Lord. It's a little bit of a
[141:35] paraphrase here.
[141:38] Make sure nobody falls short of the
[141:40] grace of God, including you,
[141:46] and no little thing grows anywhere in
[141:49] your spirit which would defile you. and
[141:52] spread to a bunch of other people.
[141:58] And [clears throat] I will just close by
[142:00] saying this
[142:03] also taken out of context.
[142:06] Paul says, "Who are you, oh person,
[142:09] to question God about how you were
[142:11] made?" Don't say,
[142:14] "Why have you made me thus?"
[142:16] I want to strongly suggest
[142:20] that you ask the Lord to help you get
[142:22] over that during this month of AL. But I
[142:24] want to add something to it.
[142:28] Stop. Stop. Stop. Do not do not ask the
[142:34] Lord why he's made them thus.
[142:39] Stop asking him why you made that person
[142:42] that way.
[142:44] Just
[142:46] thank the Lord that he made them.
[142:51] And if there's anything that causes you
[142:54] to want to ask that question
[142:56] about somebody else,
[143:00] thank the Lord for his mercy and ask him
[143:02] to deliver you from it. Amen.
[143:06] >> Because these are the little things that
[143:10] come in and start to poison us inside
[143:15] and then and then and then they just
[143:18] grow tentacles
[143:20] and they poison other people.
[143:24] Every last person
[143:28] though they may have chosen things that
[143:30] are ugly. I mean really ugly. I'm
[143:33] talking about really ugly stuff was made
[143:36] in God's image.
[143:39] And so maybe we really could
[143:43] greet everyone
[143:45] with a joyful countenance
[143:49] in the in the name of the Lord, whether
[143:52] we say that out loud or not.
[143:57] But let's be thankful that God made us.
[144:03] Accept that in his wisdom he made us the
[144:05] way he made us.
[144:07] And then beg him to help us
[144:12] be thankful that he made everybody else
[144:15] and that he made them to be who they
[144:18] are.
[144:19] We're all on the same journey. And man,
[144:22] oh man,
[144:24] if you take a moment to think we're all
[144:27] weak, but embrace the weakness
[144:33] because then God's strength can come in
[144:37] and work in you as he made you rather
[144:41] than as you wish he had.
[144:45] >> Amen.
[144:46] >> Okay,
[144:48] with that I'll close.
[145:19] So in the month Lol. We end each of our
[145:24] shakarit morning services with reading
[145:28] Psalm 27.
[145:31] So if I can find where it is in this
[145:34] book.
[145:35] There we go. I will be reading it from
[145:38] here before we do the Elena.
[145:45] These
[145:51] pages are stuck together
[145:54] right at Psalm 27.
[145:57] They are like glued together.
[146:04] There we go.
[146:09] of David.
[146:12] Adonai is my light and my salvation.
[146:16] Whom shall I fear?
[146:19] Adonai is the stronghold of my life.
[146:24] Whom should I dread?
[146:26] When evildoers approached me to devour
[146:29] my flesh, my adversaries and my foes,
[146:33] they stumbled and fell.
[146:39] Though an army camp besieges me, my
[146:42] heart will not fear. Though war breaks
[146:45] out against me, even then will I be
[146:48] confident.
[146:50] >> One thing have I asked of Adonai that I
[146:54] will seek
[146:56] to dwell in the house of Adonai all the
[147:00] days of my life.
[147:04] to behold the beauty of Adonai and to
[147:07] meditate in his temple. For in the day
[147:11] of trouble, he will hide me in his suka,
[147:14] conceal me in the shelter of his tent,
[147:18] and set me high upon a rock. Then will
[147:21] my head be high above my enemies around
[147:24] me. In his tabernacle, I will offer
[147:28] sacrifices with shouts of joy. I will
[147:31] sing. Yes. Sing praises to Adonai.
[147:35] Hear Adonai when I call with my voice.
[147:39] Be gracious to me and answer me.
[147:43] To you my heart says, seek my face.
[147:49] Your face, Adonai, I seek. Do not hide
[147:53] your face from me. Do not turn your
[147:56] servant away in anger. You have been my
[147:59] help. Do not abandon me or forsake me,
[148:02] oh God of my salvation. Oh God my
[148:05] salvation.
[148:06] Though my father and my mother forsake
[148:09] me, Adonai will take me in. Teach me
[148:14] your way, Adonai, and lead me on a level
[148:17] path because of my enemies. Do not turn
[148:21] me over to the desire of my foes. For
[148:24] false witnesses rise up against me,
[148:27] breathing out violence.
[148:30] Surely I trust that I will see the
[148:34] goodness of Adonai in the land of the
[148:38] living.
[148:40] Wait for Adonai.
[148:43] Be strong.
[148:45] Let your heart take courage and wait for
[148:49] Adonai.
[148:53] Now we need a couple of volunteers to
[148:55] open the ark.
[148:59] >> Come running.
[149:03] >> Go ahead. Who else?
[149:05] >> Go for it, Nata.
[149:08] And the Elen is on page 25. We invite
[149:11] you to stand for that if you're able. If
[149:14] you're not able, no problem.
[149:28] I'm
[149:30] [singing]
[149:32] speech.
[149:48] [singing]
[149:49] Fore
[149:59] [singing]
[150:11] [singing]
