Transcript [00:00] Oh my gosh, you guys. Guess where we [00:02] are? We are back for another fun edition [00:07] of Shopping with Malikica. This time it [00:10] is just before Sukkot [00:13] and it is so crowded here. It's like [00:15] unbelievable. Let's see if we can turn [00:16] this camera around and have a look. [00:18] There's everybody. Okay, so here we are. [00:22] Look, there's like a billion plugs and [00:24] Shabbat timers cuz as you guys know, [00:28] we uh we can't be operating no [00:32] electricity [00:34] during [00:36] the first days of our holiday where [00:37] we're not allowed. So, we put some [00:40] things on timers. Here we have nice [00:44] tables and chairs. This lady is smart. [00:46] She's already using one of the chairs. [00:49] And they have other stuff here like [00:51] vacuums. [00:56] >> It's fun to try to film and push this [00:59] cart through the sea of awesome juice at [01:03] the same time. We have some [01:07] aluminum pans. I definitely need some of [01:09] those. Come with me, aluminum pans. [01:12] You're going in the cart. And here we [01:16] scan our own stuff. Bang. There she is. [01:19] Aluminum pans. We have begun. [01:23] Okay, so this is one of my favorite [01:25] parts because this is the difference [01:28] between an Israeli grocery store and [01:31] like other grocery stores. Check it out [01:37] here. Check this out. This is the Lula [01:40] and Rogue part of the grocery store. [01:43] Look, everyone is trying to buy their [01:46] Citron. [01:49] There are four species. The Jewish [01:51] people are commanded to take four [01:54] species and to shake them during the [01:58] holiday. [02:00] Here we have somebody really checking [02:02] out these Lulovs and he wants to get the [02:05] best one. And there's different prices. [02:10] There's different prices [02:13] according to the size and the quality of [02:16] these palm frrons. [02:19] The same thing with the rogues. [02:22] There's different prices [02:25] according to how beautiful [02:28] the roim have been deemed to be before [02:32] uh when they were being boxed. Check [02:34] this one out. There's one open for you [02:35] to look at. Look, it has a beautiful pon [02:38] this little end. Do you see that little [02:40] guy? a little cute guy. That's called a [02:42] pon. A lot of etroen have a pton, but [02:44] not every kind. [02:47] And you see that people look and take it [02:49] very seriously to try to find the most [02:51] beautiful and perfect unblenmished et. [02:59] Check it out. We got these like really [03:01] cool holders. Hang on. Look at these. [03:04] These are fancy. Woo. These are like [03:07] fancy [03:10] set holders. [03:12] Look, we got silver ones. I've never [03:14] seen those before. [03:16] We got silver ones. [03:18] Check this out. This is the myrtle. [03:23] You see this? This package. [03:27] I think there's three of myrtles. You [03:30] can see [03:32] here. This package of myrtles is 90 [03:36] shekels. [03:37] Look at that. 90 shekels. But there's [03:40] another version here which is 50 [03:43] shekels. [03:49] Now to you and me, we might go really [03:53] just on first look. But people who [03:55] believe that it's important to have a [03:58] very exemplary set of Lula and Rogue [04:03] will spare no expense [04:06] to find the most unblenmished beautiful [04:08] version that they can. [04:11] They'll spend that money. That's the [04:13] Jewish people. I'm not really in the [04:15] business of getting Lulu love and etug. [04:17] I let Isa handle that. Um, and there are [04:20] many beautiful uh markets for Lula and [04:24] Etchug where you can get one. So, the [04:26] grocery store is definitely not the only [04:27] place. Um, here's section two, the [04:30] booze. All right. People are having all [04:33] kinds of parties and and fun over the [04:36] course of the holiday. And they're [04:38] inviting guests and they're sitting and [04:39] they're singing and and it's just a [04:41] great time to relax. uh you know uh [04:44] drink in moderation and don't drink and [04:46] drive, but it's a great time to spend [04:49] time and to relax and to have a little [04:52] drink. Okay, so we are going to head in. [04:56] Look at these awesome people. How cool [04:57] are they? Aren't these the people you [04:59] want to be shopping with for the [05:00] holiday? So awesome. I love them so [05:02] much. H what looks good here? There's [05:05] some wines. [05:07] Bartinura set. This is not Israeli wine, [05:11] but gosh, it is so good. It is so [05:13] classic, [05:16] but I officially recommend that you buy [05:18] Israeli wines for your holiday. There's [05:21] really no comparison. And check this [05:24] out. Now we're in the store. [05:26] Look at all the fun stuff that you can [05:30] buy [05:33] for your suka. [05:36] Look at this. [05:38] Wow. Let's check it out. [music] [05:44] We have awesome rabbi pictures. People [05:48] like to put pictures of holy people in [05:51] their suka. [music] We have the ushisin, [05:54] the holy guests that we invite over the [05:56] course of our holiday. Abraham, Isaac, [06:00] [music] and Jacob. [06:03] Moshe, Aon, Yseph, and Davidid. [06:08] And people like to invite additional [06:10] uses in their own choices here. I'm [06:14] trying to work this camera. [06:17] Look [06:19] how fun. [music] [06:21] And as you can see, people's carts. [06:23] We're just at the beginning of the store [06:25] and people's carts are already filling [06:27] up with all kinds of great suka stuff. [06:35] >> [music] [06:37] >> There's the line. [06:39] Let's check [music] out the line.un. [06:45] [music] [06:53] [music] [06:53] It's a little scary. [06:57] We're going to be okay. We're going to [06:58] make it. Check this out. This is a a [07:00] little toy for kids. It's a It's a um [07:04] It's a flashlight that shines special [07:07] pictures on the wall when you shine it. [07:10] And these are the special pictures. [07:12] These are some of the special pictures [07:14] that you'll get [07:16] if you buy this [07:19] awesome flashlight for just [07:24] 10 shekels. Okay, this is something [07:27] really cool. Check this out. [07:31] Right at the end of our holiday sukkot [07:35] is another holiday called simkat tora in [07:39] which we celebrate the fact that we [07:43] complete a cycle of reading Torah and we [07:46] immediately start another cycle the same [07:49] day. So we never end. The cycle always [07:51] continues. And and there is a big [07:54] celebration called Satra. [07:57] And the Jewish people have a huge party [08:00] in Shu to celebrate this. And the kids [08:04] run around in circles, dance around [08:06] really in circles with flags. [08:10] As you can see, here's flags. And [08:12] there's many, many versions. And to now [08:15] this is a puffy Torah. Check this out. [08:19] This is a puffy Torah [08:22] in the Ashkanazi style. And this is a [08:25] hard Torah in the Sparty style. Do you [08:28] see this? And this is a children's [08:30] Torah. [08:32] Look how beautiful that is. It is not [08:35] kosher in the sense that you can't read [08:37] from it in the synagogue, [08:41] but it is the Torah with the words. [08:43] Check it out. [08:49] So beautiful. You see how the Jewish [08:51] people invest in their children. They [08:53] the and they invest in the values that [08:55] they're trying to instill in the [08:56] children. [09:00] So here's everybody. Here's some [09:03] children. As a matter of fact, everybody [09:05] coming in to get ready for their [09:07] holiday. Okay. Here you can see [09:12] everyone is buying fruits and [09:14] vegetables. Israel is a country that [09:16] really eats its fruit and vegetables. [09:19] We love it. [09:22] And I want to show you something. [09:27] You see these blueberries? I've never [09:29] seen these sold in this way before. 300 [09:31] g of blueberries for 23 shekels. [09:37] I remember when blueberries first came [09:41] to Israel. You could not find [09:42] blueberries. And we were here for a [09:46] decade at least before we saw any [09:48] blueberries. And then blueberries came [09:49] and they were so expensive. But everyone [09:51] was so excited. And now [09:56] we can buy a bucket of blueberries. [10:01] And I just want you to see that here in [10:03] the land of Israel, we're going to get [10:06] everything. We get everything. [10:09] Look at these grapes. They're like the [10:11] size of plums. Do you see those? Hang [10:13] on. Let's get closer. [10:18] Look at these grapes, which I'm [10:19] definitely going to buy some. They're so [10:21] beautiful. [10:22] Look at these. Look how huge they are. [10:26] Here in the land of Israel, we have so [10:28] much. [10:30] And we're going to get more and more and [10:31] more. And everything that feels like [10:33] it's lacking [10:36] is going to is going to stop being [10:38] lacking. And it's such a gift to be able [10:40] to be. At least that's how I feel. It's [10:43] such a gift to be able to be here as the [10:45] land of Israel fills up with all of its [10:48] blessing. [10:50] You know, it's cool to arrive when [10:51] everything is already perfect and and [10:53] and fixed and and clean and peaceful and [10:59] good. [11:01] But it's also amazing to be here to see [11:03] it grow up, you know, to see it [11:06] happening before your eyes, to see the [11:09] maturation of the land of Israel. It's [11:11] just so special. [11:14] There's a lot of frozen food section [11:15] here. [11:17] As you can see, this whole thing is [11:19] frozen food section. But I want to show [11:21] you something cool. Check this out. Look [11:24] over here. Here we have [11:29] something called creplla [11:32] with a meat filling. Okay. [11:36] Crepllock with a meat filling. Here we [11:38] have koo with a meat filling. Crepllock. [11:44] Ashkanazi soul food with meat inside and [11:47] we put it in soup or sometimes you fry [11:49] it and it's popular to eat um around the [11:51] holiday time because you express that [11:54] something uh there's something inside [11:57] that's being hidden away like in a suka [11:59] or or the soul is inside the body. [12:01] There's many metaphors [12:03] but this is a sparty version koo. It's [12:07] different and they put it in soup. It's [12:09] it's like denser [12:11] um and kind of fluffier also. And it's [12:14] just so cute because here they are [12:16] living side by side. The Ashkanazi Kla [12:20] with the Sparty Kub. This is Kibut Galio [12:24] people. This is the in gathering of the [12:26] exiles happening right here in the [12:28] frozen food section. Okay, check this [12:30] out. We got juice, but not just any [12:34] juice. We have pomegranate juice. This [12:38] is called rimonada, which is pomegranate [12:41] lemonade. [12:43] Same one. and it's popular. And this is [12:44] apple juice from the land of Israel. I'm [12:46] definitely picking up some of this. [12:48] Okay, now we have a few little uh [12:52] housewear type things. Here's a pretty [12:54] dish [12:55] and uh a nice uh [12:59] set here, [13:01] Kdish cups, [13:04] and handwashing cups. You notice these [13:06] cups have two handles. That's because [13:08] the Jewish people [13:10] wash their hands in a ritual fashion. [13:13] one hand after the other or sometimes [13:15] one hand and the other hand. Um, and we [13:18] have been doing this for thousands of [13:21] years and now we can do it using pretty [13:25] plastic handwash cups. Okay, I got I I [13:28] have to show you something else. This is [13:30] fresca. If you live in America, you know [13:32] what fresca is. It's a grapefruit [13:34] flavored drink. This is the first time [13:36] I'm seeing this in Israel and I've been [13:38] in Israel for 24 years. Um, remember [13:43] what I was saying about the blueberries? [13:44] How everything that [13:49] how everything that they have [13:53] um in [13:55] outside the land of Israel that's [13:56] awesome that we're going to get here in [13:58] the land of Israel. I [snorts] know it's [14:00] just fresco, but I used to joke about it [14:02] that he would like go to America and [14:04] [snorts] that he should um go enjoy some [14:07] fresco while I was in Israel. And now [14:09] it's here and it's not cheap, [14:13] but I kind of want to get some just [14:15] because I can and because the land of [14:18] Israel is just getting better and better [14:19] all the time. Okay, check this out. Look [14:22] how cute. [14:24] >> Look how cute. [14:26] Napkins. [14:30] I'm such a sucker for this stuff. [14:36] Welcome [14:40] You should be happy on your holiday. [14:45] The cuteness of it. [14:50] So cute. If you don't like people, [14:54] you're in the wrong place. [14:56] There's a lot of people. [14:59] Luckily, I like people. [15:04] But it is real up in here. People are [15:07] getting ready for the holiday. [15:10] Here is the cart update. This is our [15:14] cart so far. [15:19] This is what I got. We got some napkins. [15:22] Got some little yogurt drinks. Little [15:24] drami just to relax in the suk a little [15:26] bit. A new broom because you know I like [15:28] to live it up. I got some exotic foreign [15:32] beer. Po garden. [15:35] Apple juice concentrate. I got the [15:37] fresca, people. I got the fresca. That's [15:40] right. Celebrating the growth of the [15:42] land of Israel. One delicious [15:44] grapefruitity sip at a time, guys. We [15:48] are headed toward the finish line. [15:52] And before we get there, we have the [15:55] opportunity to buy some toys. Here's the [15:57] toys section. [16:00] Lots of cute things for the kids in case [16:02] you need to get a little prize, [16:04] something fun for the holiday [16:07] and TV screens [16:10] and bikes. [16:14] All kinds of neat stuff. Whatever's on [16:17] sale, whatever's fun. TV walkie-talkie. [16:19] That looks cool. [16:22] As you can see, the anguish is starting [16:24] to set in. I'm just kidding. There's no [16:27] anguish. [16:29] But it's a labor of love, you know what [16:32] I mean? To prepare for our holidays. [16:35] Look, there's some holy books. Also, you [16:37] [clears throat] got bikes, TVs, [16:40] holy books, [16:44] moxor for for prayers during the high [16:46] holidays, which we are now uh coming to [16:49] a close on. And we got the ice creams [16:52] cuz this is about the time that you need [16:54] some ice cream. Am I right, [16:57] Ben? Ben & Jerry's. This is kosher. And [17:01] this is the Israeli Ben & Jerry's which [17:04] is which fought very hard to [17:08] um market itself in Judea and Samaria. [17:11] It's a very proud proje. [17:17] I'm going to go attempt to get in this [17:19] line. Here's my cart. This is what we're [17:21] looking like now. Don't judge. Okay. [17:23] This is my purse. Whatever. [17:26] and some other random stuff thrown in [17:28] there. Okay, we can do this. We're [17:30] almost there. Okay, [17:34] we made it through, guys. We made it [17:36] through. Now, we just have to pay. Us [17:38] and these other 300 billion other people [17:41] who want to pay. And look, look. [17:43] Everyone's carts are full. Look, look [17:45] how nice. Everyone has so much good [17:48] stuff for the holiday. So much stuff to [17:51] celebrate with. It's so awesome. Check [17:53] this one out, guys. Look how cute this [17:56] is. A seat cover. [18:00] Special chair for the holy guests who [18:02] come. Abraham, Yeetsk, Yakov, Moshe, [18:05] Aron, Ysef, and Davidid. See that? [18:08] That's so nice, [18:10] guys. We did it. We did it, you guys. We [18:14] are out of the store. Check this out. [18:16] Now, we're going to ride this escalator [18:18] thing up to the parking lot with our [18:20] cart. And we have to still bag all this [18:24] action. This is not everything I bought [18:26] for the holiday because I bought my meat [18:28] and vegetables at another place. Haha. [18:31] So, it would be like twice or three [18:34] times the size of this cart. But not [18:36] bad, right? Okay. We're in the parking [18:39] lot. It's not easy to film like this. [18:42] I'll be honest with you. But this is the [18:44] situation in the parking lot. It is [18:46] nutty pants. I cannot get by with my [18:49] cart [18:51] because there is so much traffic in the [18:54] parking lot. And I am down like at the [18:56] end of human existence here in the [18:58] parking lot. All the way down. But at [19:01] least I got a spot. I mean, look at [19:03] this. Uh this is like my least favorite [19:06] thing about holiday prep is trying to [19:10] find the parking spot. But that's where [19:12] the Lord comes in cuz that's where the [19:14] miracles happen. You're just like, I got [19:16] a parking spot. That is a miracle. Now I [19:20] just have to find my car. Oh my gosh, [19:23] you guys. We did it. I put all the stuff [19:25] in the back of the car. I don't feel so [19:27] good right now. Uh my cold is colding, [19:30] but I paid for parking and we did it. I [19:35] just uh I just want to thank you guys so [19:37] much for coming along with me and um [19:40] bless you with just like the happiest, [19:43] best, awesomest, sweetest, calmst, most [19:46] uplifting, most awesome sukot. [19:50] And if you're here in the land of [19:51] Israel, you really deserve to really [19:55] enjoy this holiday so much. And and I [19:59] just want to really bless you so much. [20:00] And if you're not here in the land of [20:01] Israel, you deserve to get on a plane [20:04] and come experience this sometime. It's [20:07] so beautiful. It's intense and it's and [20:10] it's work and and then you reap the [20:12] rewards. Sit in your beautiful suka here [20:15] in the land of Israel like the God of [20:16] Israel commanded us. And it's just so [20:19] awesome. And I hope that next year [20:22] you'll be celebrating with me in [20:24] Jerusalem at the grocery store or [20:26] wherever you are. God bless you. Love [20:28] you guys.
