Transcript [00:00] You ever have those moments when your [00:01] children teach you something that you [00:03] were trying to teach them? [00:05] Well, the other night uh I was putting [00:06] my kids to sleep and I have two boys. [00:09] They're 3 and 5 years old. And I said, [00:11] "Let's pray." So, I started praying for [00:13] them. I'm lying on the floor right next [00:14] to their bed. And I begin praying for [00:16] them and my 3-year-old interrupts me. [00:18] And if you've remembered I've shared [00:20] about this before where my kids like to [00:22] interrupt me when I'm praying. And he [00:24] interrupt he interrupts me and he says, [00:25] "Abba, Abba, I want to pray." So, he [00:27] starts praying. And so I said, "Okay, [00:28] you can pray." And he starts praying and [00:31] this time around I've heard him pray [00:33] before, but I just all of a sudden [00:35] really honed in into what he was saying. [00:37] And it just struck me that he was [00:38] saying, "Thank you." And this is what he [00:40] said. I'm going to summarize it. He went [00:41] on, "I thank you, God, for the whole [00:44] world. I thank you for the people of [00:46] Israel. I thank you for the flowers. [00:48] Thank you for my Abba. Thank you for my [00:50] sister. Thank you for all you've done." [00:53] And he went on and on. Not once did he [00:56] say, "I'm asking you for something." Not [00:59] once did he request something of the [01:01] Lord. Not once did he say, "This is what [01:02] I want." And it just made me think about [01:05] my prayer with God. How often do I go to [01:08] him? How often do you go to him? And [01:10] you're asking things, right? You have a [01:11] long list of things. [01:13] But from a child's heart, he wasn't [01:15] asking anything. He was simply saying [01:17] how wonderful the earth is. How [01:18] wonderful the dinosaurs are. How [01:20] wonderful things are. His imagination, [01:22] his heart is full of wonder and he's [01:24] asking God he's telling God how [01:27] wonderful he is. This reminds me of [01:29] Psalm 8 when the psalmist says that out [01:31] out of the mouth of babies, out of the [01:34] mouth of infants and nursing babies you [01:36] have ordained praise. You have ordained [01:37] strength. [01:39] God wants us to have that childlike [01:42] posture in our hearts where we come to [01:44] him and we say, "Thank you." When was [01:45] the last time you were before God in [01:48] prayer and you just thought, "How [01:49] wonderful you are. How wonderful you [01:52] are. What have you done for me? You've [01:53] rescued me. You've redeemed me. You've [01:55] given me your blessings." The love of [01:57] God, the love of God poured into my [01:59] heart by the Holy Spirit. When was the [02:01] last time you just were before the [02:03] presence of God and just said, "Thank [02:04] you. I'm in awe of you." I think God [02:07] wants us to have that attitude. And I'm [02:09] just thankful that my little kids, even [02:11] though I was trying to teach them how to [02:12] pray, they taught me something about the [02:15] awesome character and nature of God. I [02:18] hope that blesses you today.
This personal story will change the way you pray. 🙏
God doesn't always speak through a sermon or a quiet moment alone. Sometimes He uses the people closest to us, even the little ones, to teach us something about Himself.
Psalm 8:2 says, "Out of the mouth of babies and infants,
you have established strength because of your foes,
to still the enemy and the avenger.
