Memorable Performance! Barbra Streisand sings Avinu Malkeinu

A powerful rendition of Avinu Malkeinu, performed in Jerusalem by Barbra Streisand. May we all be inscribed in the Book of Life. It took place on June 18, 2013, at the Jerusalem International Convention Center (Binyanei Ha’Uma), during the gala marking Shimon Peres’s 90th birthday and the opening of the Israeli Presidential Conference. Peres himself had asked Streisand to sing it. Streisand introduced Avinu Malkeinu by explaining that it asks God for compassion “for us and our children.” She sang the Hebrew prayer using Max Janowski’s famous musical setting, the version she had previously recorded. She then performed “People.” The audience was extraordinary: Bill Clinton, Tony Blair, Benjamin Netanyahu, Robert De Niro and Sharon Stone were among those present.
